Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 723 - 722 - Fruits of Labor

Chapter 723 - 722 - Fruits of Labor

The Alliance was still licking its wounds in one sense the infusion of new Immortals had sped up that recovery.  Even so, it remained true that many powers had been wiped from the map so those gaps were not so easy to recover.

Without much resistance, several Immortals set up basic foundations for their own powers.  Some were martial but a few were simply wanting to be a ruler.  Despite being Immortals, the powers were not treated as anything important and the Immortals preferred to be left alone.

It was a weak point, however, so scouts always kept an eye out for Fiend activity.

Sadly, Fiends never went where one wished.

Rather than go for clearly weak areas to attack, they went for a more central approach where the walls had been built for the new defensive line.

As it was only a little over 2 decades old, it was not a perfectly defended area yet but better than other areas.

It was not a frontal assault, of course, but spies sent to infiltrate as they had once done in the past.

The thought had been to likely slowly build up forces on the inside before launching a 2 prong attack.

Whatever the Fiends had planned however, it was doubtful it included sigils lighting up like the sun as soon as thralls got near the wall!  The instant the Fiends minions were discovered, they were killed.

Thralls could not be saved.  Lind's own harmony killed them when he tried to purify them, but he could at least save their souls.

Instead of simply dying, their souls were extracted by the weaving and denied the Fiend sustenance.  It was still a brutal way to die, but better than becoming food or a puppet.

It enraged the Fiends enough to launch an attack but the soldiers on the wall merely looked on as 2 Nautilus Class skyships rose up before anyone could get near the walls!

Beams of emerald qi flared out rendering any Fiend Qi harmless!  World and Sky Realm Fiends were wiped out with ease!

Cheers went up as the surviving Fiends had to fall back but their rage was apparent.

Jorn was in a bad mood while everyone cheered on.  He had come hoping to kill a few enemies at last but instead he simply watched as first the wall then the skyships wiped all the foes away.

"He is taking all the fun out of this war."  Jorn was not alone in his disgruntled state but he was not so rude as to stop people celebrating the easy win.  All of them knew it was merely the first of a new offensive but it was refreshing to not even have injuries.

The ability to pick out thralls was a big change too as they could not do that before.

Apparently Emperor Lind Frey had experienced a lot of puppets and other vicious techniques inside that Law Binding of his.  He had heard a few powers had sent quite a few of the powers being a drag on their resources into it to fend for themselves.

There were vicious aether beasts in there according to rumor but Jorn was too strong to go now!

"Smile, my demonic friend!  Enough blood will flow soon enough!"  A gray robed swordsman was drinking from a pint glass that should be nowhere near the ramparts but there it was.

The man had a white beard but his body was broad enough to fill any door Jorn had ever seen.  The Divine Sword Sect always made for good opponents but at the wall the Heartpiercer Sect had an understanding not to challenge allies randomly as attacks could come at any time.

"I am not one to tell another how to live, but does that not blunt your skills?"  Jorn recalled the old swordsman never really had been sober since he met him at the wall.

"Ah, well, you could say I need to dull my skills a bit or I might kill everyone here."  Jorn stared hard at the swordsman.  He was not an Immortal, but beyond that Jorn was not sure what he was.

"As you wish, but–"  Both turned in unison as a frightening power rose to the west.  Jorn had felt it before and his blood surged as he was actually looking forward to it.

An Immortal Fiend was coming!

Jorn was about to pull out his own weapons but the sky tore open as 3 people appeared in the sky.

"Ah come on!"  Since when did Immortals while away their time at the defensive line?!

"Ya know, I am starting to really be on your side of things my dear demon."  The swordsman took another swig of his alcohol but they saw the 3 Immortals had a familiar emerald cloak on each of them.

Despite being outnumbered, the Immortal Fiend seemed to be fending off the trio attacking.  The sky lit up and various Arts flew that seemed to change the sky to various colors.

It almost looked like the end of the world but all were safe behind the wall defenses.

Jorn wanted to go out and fight but he was still too weak.  He had recovered but he still had a lot to comprehend to take the next step.  The more he watched, the more the tiny traces of Laws glimmered in his eyes.

It was really helpful to see such battles and combine them with his comprehension but then a burp shook him out of the trance.

He looked annoyed at the swordsman but then the old man's gray eyes became dangerous.

"Aye, time to stop being lazy."  His aura skyrocketed as a peak Sliver Tier aura came from him!  The man was an Immortal!

"S-s-senior?!"  The old man smiled wide at him but then pulled out a sword that was clearly far more powerful than any Sun Tier could hold.  Why had Jorn never seen that?!

"I find all those meetings stuffy but one day a boy came.  He had strange notions and ideas but by the spirits it invigorated my old bones."  Jorn had a sudden premonition of who the old man was.

"Were you waiting for that?"  Jorn pointed at the battle and the old man shrugged.

"We are not so precious now thanks to that boy and his moves.  In less than an eyeblink, he has changed the world back to how I remembered it.  Anyway, time to get to work."  The space tore finely in front of the old man as he disappeared into it.

Jorn whipped his head to the skies and saw the fighting pause.

The once chaotic flow of Qi was sliced in a cross shape as the Fiend screamed in horror.

"By the spirits, it really was Shatter Blade, the Sect Master of the Divine Sword Sect!"  He was a legend but had held down the defense of the area behind the defense line.

The 4 Immortals were now moving in concert.  Compared to before, the Qi was flying in organized patterns and it was clear the Immortal Fiend was going to die.

"Lind Frey has made it so Immortals can simply defend the line."  Jorn actually felt shocked as he spoke the words.

He slowly looked around and found he was not alone staring into the sky.

How many more were in their ranks?  All the rumors and knowledge began to come together in Jorn's head.

"It is not just about rebuilding, but about moving forward.  He wants to take the fight to them!"  His words seemed to snap all the people around him out of the trance as they began to speak about it.

Lind Frey was not just supporting the war effort, he wanted to change it.

Thralls no longer getting in was huge but also having the power to wipe out lower level Fiends would make a massive impact on the war effort.

Now, spare Immortals at long last to take down invaders efficiently.

Jorn suddenly realized something vastly critical.

"I won't get to fight if I am not an Immortal!"  People stared at him with disbelief as he began to stare at the battle but it seemed to be wrapping up.

"No!  Keep fighting, I need more examples!"  He cried as the corpse of an Immortal Fiend was tossed to the blackened ground in front of the wall.

The dead land from the battle had yet to recover even decades later but now an Immortal Fiend was dead.  Jorn could see the artifacts to ensnare the soul and stop it from leaving.

Without a host, the Fiend would die relatively quickly.

"For the fallen!"  The old man slammed his sword that now shone with lighting into the fried corpse.  The scream of the ghostly Fiend shook all present but then it died.

The blade had sigils blazing on it so Jorn knew it had been modified by a weaver.  Still, to be able to kill a soul directly was terrifying.

A roar went up from the people on the wall as news spread once more of victory with no deaths.

The Immortals were wounded but nothing a pill or elixir could not cure.

Jorn hung his head in frustration and swore he would ascend to being an Immortal if it killed him.  He would not be left out of the fight!
