Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 456 - 455 - Profound Science

Chapter 456 - 455 - Profound Science

"That makes on sense, Master, how can water make fire more powerful?"  A young demon put forth a question in the auditorium that was packed to the rafters with beasts and cultivators.

The reason being that Lind was giving a lecture.

He made a point of touching on complex to simple lessons.  He believed no Elder nor any leader of the Sect is too high to talk about the basics once more.

Lind smiled as he summoned fire and light to make lightning dance around him before causing a fire on the open table.  The arrays would prevent a disaster but all watched as water appeared but instead of extinguishing the fire, it became more intense!

"The elements are more than everyday examples.  Conditions, sources, and a myriad of factors can change the facet of each element to odd effects like this.  For instance, water can be ignited."  Some nodded in recognition but Lind had to vaporize water to make the right conditions.

A single spark set off in the same closed off space to flash fire!

"Elements do not exist in a vacuum, even in our dantians.  You need to comprehend the elements at your disposal as they are in the world.  It will allow you to combine not only the other elements within but without as well."  Lind saw sparks of understanding flow over the crowd.

"Surely such things don't happen at the Sky Realm, Master?"  A young aether child spoke up.  Her height was quite short but her crimson and green coloring reminded him of Mythra.  He missed her and Su.

"Yes and no.  As we progress, we begin to shed the shackles that hold us to mortality but the elements are everywhere.  Just as this small experiment shows mortal grade elements have more depth than expected, it becomes just as complex the higher we go."  Lind saw confusion but it was not impossible to give them an example.

"How can fire burn in a vacuum without fuel?  How can liquids exist without any pressure?  Think of teleportation arrays.  They are profound uses of the Dao of Space but are still tied to the elements."  Some grasped but many did not.  Darkness and earth now flowed and a simple wave of gravity was created.

"All I did was create a mass and force but then how do these 2 elements form the foundation of teleportation?  It is because there is more to gravity than simply crushing to the center."  Lind used his full tier 4 strength and all were amazed as he made it visible to them all.

The air shivered until a small tear was created but it seemed to reach out for a moment to his right and another tear appeared before it stabilized.

"At a very basic level, this is teleportation.  We are pulled into the entrance and brought out the exit.  Space becomes curved and we punch a hole to reach across the surface of our lands."  Quite a few were stunned as they had never viewed teleportation that way before.

Many believed it was instantaneous but Lind knew the disorientation came from touching the void barely as one was moved along the path.  The reason more powerful cultivators no longer suffered was the weakening of the tether to mortal sensibilities.

Relying on the forces of the world was no longer as needed and in fact defied by the cultivator thus teleportation not only became a simple convenience but could be used by some of them personally.

"Is there no end to it, Master?"  An Illusion Python spoke up but he smiled at them.

"There is always more to see.  Our current progress was built on the work of our ancestors and discoveries we make on our own.  The combinations of elements are seen as a limit but it can make you find things others would never imagine because they are not as restricted."  All 6 elements flared around Lind.

His harmony flowed like a chain around the 6 sparks of Qi as he pointed it out.

"The reason 6 elementals seemed useless for the same reasons.  We could not function the way things were understood at the time, but there was more to the elemental relationships few could grasp as they could not practice it.  The reverse is also true.  A dual elemental could find a way to combine their elements in ways no one imagined before because they don't have to worry about the other 4."  Lind then dispersed his display.

"Always remember, however, that to advance after the Sky Realm will require to always consider those other elements.  Work with your fellow disciples to test your ideas and when you reach the Star Tier, you will be ready to add the other elements at that time."  The crowd was silent.

Many were far older than him but all gave him deep respect.

"Lessons are over for today, all return to your quarters and be ready for the expedition with Elder Ethry if you are up for it."  Lysanna stepped forth and brought it to an end.  Many voices rose in protest but she became stern looking at them all.

It was not the first time one of Lind's lectures was met with such reluctance to leave.

Lind bowed and all returned it as he headed to the back rooms to avoid the many questions the disciples no doubt would bombard him with.

He found a young girl in the robes of the sect with bright pink hair playing with Tal.  Lind sighed as Romana seemed to flit between the mature senior she was and the small girl she had become.

Likely it was a facet of her Dao to be studied but there were no issues with her body or cultivation they could find.  She had a new lease on life but Lind wondered if that would always be the case.

He still recalled the strange conversation but he kept it to himself.  Sometimes, knowing the future could be more troublesome than not.

There was one change, however.

"This hand!"  Tal pointed at the right fist of Romana who narrowed her eyes and then opened her hand to reveal nothing on it.

"No luck, so sorry!"  Tal was pouting and it took Lind back but he became stern.

"Romana.  I warned you to not use that for your little games."  Romana jumped but Tal ran to him and clung to his robes.

"PAPA!  She is cheating!"  Lind patted Tal's head.  No matter how mature she became, Tal still became his little girl in moments like that.  Romana was blushing and clearly caught red handed.

"I just wanted to see if I could control it better…"  Lind's eyebrow arched as he used light and dark Qi to disperse the flow of time in her hands.  A simple dark stone appeared.  Romana had moved it a few moments out of sync with the present.

Since her reconstitution, she could now do some minor manipulations of Time.  Nothing dangerous, but Lind knew troubles could become big if left alone.  They had been studying any side effects or other issues but for the moment they were harmless.

Unfortunately, Romana seemed inclined to be pulling pranks with them rather than comprehending them!

He comforted Tal but suspected she would be duped again.  Romana had over a millennia of experience so teasing her juniors seems to be a quirk few knew of!  She had hidden it deeply.

"Did you study the materials I gave you?"  Romana now looked away and he became stern.  "You promised to review any questions you had after my lecture."

"But they are so hard!  What is a quantum state anyway?  What is quantum?!"  Lind sighed as he could not answer those questions.  He had only touched on the basics of physics because he needed the science credit in college.

He had barely passed the class but since his memory had become so detailed as he progressed in cultivation, all the knowledge he thought blocked out or never sunk in the first time was at his fingertips.

"I told you, the Dao of Time can be related to that knowledge but I am not an expert.  I can only explain the basics to see if it helps spark ideas."  Romana pouted as he repeated his limited knowledge.

"What is the point of it then?  If you can't explain it, then what good does it do me?"  Lind began to float up his tower as she followed asking the questions.  He paused as he thought of something.

"How can we see the future if it can be changed?"  He asked the question many experienced but did not seem to study too deeply.  Many believed that if they saw visions of the future, they were set in stone but Lind knew better.

"I don't know."  Lind smiled as she usually would tell him the future can't be changed but he then reached his office before proceeding.

"If we observe the future, we are seeing events before we knew of them occurring.  The act of observing changes our perspective, but the choices did not change.  The questions did, thus the future we saw may or may not come to pass."  Romana seemed to disagree so Lind came to his example.

"Even if there are only a handful, there have been cultivators that were able to shift through time physically.  Why did they not become paragons of all cultivation?"  Some likely had but many were known that did not.

Romana thought it over but could not see where Lind was going.

"Time is not a story, it is a river.  The current carries us forward and few can resist it but even if you could see farther down the river, floods, shifts in the coasts, or even normal weather can change the path with no additional action taken.  What use were those observations then?"  Lind then used his Qi to make his words clear.

"Cultivators, however, can change themselves and step out of the river.  The flow did not stop, it simply no longer included them.  What would that cause?"  Romana thought but did not think it would make that much of a difference.

Her face said it all but Lind now smiled.

"Your father never meets your mother.  You are never born.  All the life you have lived never happened.  While some events may still occur, the small change turns into a raging tide as you go forward."  Romana felt shocked.

"The text I gave you was to grasp that until we observe things, they are unchanged but once observed the results can no longer be predicted like before.  The Dao of Time is similar in that seeing the future does not solidify it, it in fact can change it just by looking at it."  Romana wondered why Lind knew such things but if he told her it was due to fantastical movies and books, he doubted she would appreciate it.

"I will take another look."  Romana had a strange look on her face and Lind hoped the basics of quantum physics would inspire her.  Lind was not sure he was right, but his progress grew from his foundation in science.

Cultivation and science were not exclusive.  One could feed into the other and Lind wondered if it could happen at such an advanced level.  He had not had any inspiration but Romana was walking a different path.  Hers seemed to remind him of that class he took so long ago.

He began to review his jade slips and scrolls but then smiled as he felt Romana in her quarters and the feeling of her Dao of Time felt far more profound.

"Good luck, senior."  Lind hoped she would share what she learned but it would be up to her.  He returned to his own studies and looked at the Weaving Hall efforts to spread their lessons.

It was already a lot for him to study but the second ring was in his future.  He also had to advance elixirs and Forging too.  A lot of work was ahead but hopefully he would be tier 5 or 6 when they finally revealed themselves to the world again.
