Chapter 1656 - 1655 - Patients
Chapter 1656 - 1655 - Patients
Lind was swept away after he was allowed to recover. He got no reward but a familiar sensation washed over him as a warning. He was not in a simulation but a Divine Memory.
His eyes slowly opened and he was surprised to find he was himself. There was no restriction on his body or power but he noticed a tragic scene that locked him in place.
Moans and screams of pain filled a large hall with simple cots or even just covers laid on the stone floor held injured and maimed figures. He had seen far too many halls like it in his life and for the same reason.
War.
A long sigh behind him made him whirl around and he saw a blood covered healer. They were not injured but had no time to clean the fluid of their patients off before moving to the next.
The young man had dark hear and eyes with a faint scar visible above his left eye. Lind recognized his Master but he was only in the Sky Realm. Why was he now in such an old memory?
"Brother." Another familiar voice came from a cloth strong doorway. Younger Twin grimaced and looked with finality at the hall before dragging his exhausted body up.
"I am still here." A bloodied arm swept the cloth away and Lind was shocked to see Older Twin there but he was missing an eye! He also had an artificial arm!
His left arm was a thin but decently made artifact. Lind could see the seeds of future greatness but the fact it was clearly his work meant he made his own arm! A glance at the eyepatch made Lind suspect there was likely an artificial eye there too.
When had Older Twin regained his limbs? Lind actually did not know if tribulations could do that for very old injuries but the shock did not stop as his Eyes confirmed the artificial limb completed the cultivation cycle of the body!
Who could a Sky Realm make that?! They were always geniuses.
Lind followed them to a larger tent in a camp but he saw smoldering building ruins and clear signs that a horrific war was occurring.
Oddly, he saw peak Sky Realms mingling with cultivators all the way down to the Body Refining Realm.
He looked closer at the world but he got no sense it was a floating continent or anything but a mortal realm. The density of Qi was also very high with the quality. He had never heard of such a mortal realm.
They were not in the Heaven Realm lands or whatever equivalent passed for it for these 2. The Celestial Fields were also impossible. The feeling in the air was far from as profound as either of those.
They might be inside an Inheritance but he doubted it. Wars almost never happened as he was seeing. A vision, certainly, but not actual war.
Battle was a given for many but that was a duel or horde format. Neither of those would create such a result he was seeing.
He saw Older Twin wave his living arm and a bubble of water cleansed his brother. Younger Twin glared at him but his brother just smiled. A gust of air dried him off and he looked far more presentable.
The guards at the tent were in far better shape but Lind was shocked to feel they were Star Tiers. What insane mortal realm was this?!
How could any power survive battles between the far more powerful higher realms?
Lind followed them in and saw a meeting going on. Logistics, tactics, and various smaller conversations washed over him until the Twins were noticed.
"Healer, I am given to understand our pills are not depleted. I need you to tend to my son." A man with a full mane of dark hair spoke and Lind confirmed he was also a Star Tier.
His foundation was not as solid as the guards but it was near the peak. Lind was confused as to the point of the trial before he saw the look on his Master's face.
He had never seen such a blank look but because he knew his Master very well, he knew rage unbound when he saw it. Older Twin flicked his artificial arm but no one seemed to notice.
The people in the tent seemed to look bored but a tension was rising before his Master spoke.
"People are dying as we stand here. Your son was grazed by an arrow and is perfectly fine! He will heal on his own." The words were calm but Lind felt the power laced in them.
A sneer passed on the commander's face before a lash of earth and darkness struck from above. He attacked a healer?!
Lind reacted without thinking. His hand slashed outward and shattered the attack. The room finally reacted to him but not in the way he expected.
"You commoners need to remember your place and you dare to not take my attack? You think my son should have a scar? Those people–" Hate filled tirade spilled out he had heard in some form over both his lives.
The Twins did not let the man's arrogance go to waste. Older Twin's eyepatch suddenly burned away as a real beam of pure light seared into key points of the tent. It was only then that Lind realized the entire tent was sealed by an array.
His left arm slammed into the guard coming in and despite being a full major realm below, the Star Tier was the one who lost!
Younger Twin seemed to command water, fire, and air to scald those near him.
It was an exquisite Art as his twin was excluded from the damage but not impeding his fighting.
Both Twins were suddenly death on 2 legs yet no one died. Injured, maybe a few crippled, but that was all.
Lind was amazed as the amount of power they demonstrated was far more than anyone he knew of in the Sky Realm.
A thought came to him then.
It was confirmed as Older Twin shimmered and his usual appearance replaced his war torn one.
"Never ceases to amaze me when ants grow a big head because they were born fortunate. I left my Divine Will long ago but you keep healing. It is time to go." His Master sighed before looking up and Lind felt their eyes lock.
Lind felt fear. Real fear. He saw a being that was far beyond him strip away any secrets with a glance.
[No one dies.] A tremor made Lind stumble. It was not just a transmission but something else. Older Twin became solemn before a wave of power swept from Younger Twin.
It was not Qi or anything Lind recognized. Just what was he seeing? He realized this moment was the point of the trial. He quickly analyzed the effects and was shocked.
He saw the newly injured figures were healing or being restored. He saw flawed foundations improved! Just what had his Master done?!
Lind then moved to the hall full of patients only to find they were whole! The stark contrast helped him grasp a glimmer of it. Compared to the tent, the effect was dramatically more focused.
"This is like an elixir effect made into an Art? How?" Lind focused on the flows of energy with his Talents before a shocking revelation came to him.
Mystery energy traces!
He could not tell which ones but that only eliminated Life, Death, and Samsara. He did know it was far more precise than his clumsy attempts.
His eyes lit up as he understood he was not in a trial but being given context for what was to come. There was no way to convey a lesson like this in any other way.
"The power of elixirs without ingredients or concoction. How does that even work?" The instant his words left his mouth the memory came to an end and he was now in a much cleaner hall.
His body and powers were unrestrained still but a feeling of pressure washed over him as he looked at the many beds. Diseased figures were clustered together and maimed figures next to them and so forth. Severe to minor were scattered within but they were all kinds of races he had never seen before!
His patients were part of his trial and learning from the scene he had observed.
"Healer Frey, do not just stand there." A woman's voice made him whirl around as he had not detected anyone! She looked human but his instincts told him she was some kind of beast.
Further, she was another race he did not know. Even looking at her, it was like all but his eyes and ears could not detect her! His aura told him no one was there yet he could hear her heartbeat and see the crystal artifact shimmer in her hands he definitely could detect.
She looked annoyed with her narrow face but Lind realized she was far from the only oddity. Some of the patients he could see were equally difficult to detect! If he could not use his aura to examine them, how could he treat them?!
The horror on his face seemed to soften her demeanor as she swept back her dark azure hair.
"You have done well in the tests and your theoretical knowledge is excellent. Have faith you can help them." Her words made his eyes narrow. They were not the words he would expect from a memory or trial spirit.
"You are alive?" His question made her start before she became serious.
"Of course I am! We all are and you have a job to do!" Lind felt a solemn feeling wash over him. His trial was not an illusion or Divine Memory. He was somewhere in the Inheritance where these people were kept.
His Master was a healer. He was powerful but his focus was always on healing. Making an Inheritance did not mean it could not serve another purpose aside from finding legacy candidates.
He bowed low and moved to the maimed figures first. Missing limbs were easier to draw parallels to begin building his foundational knowledge. He had a lot of work to do.
