Chapter 1653 - 1652 - The Ravaged Sect
Chapter 1653 - 1652 - The Ravaged Sect
Lind looked at the identical pair and determined they were peak Journeymen Tier at best. He glanced at his fellow trial takers and saw they were not confused at all. No wonder his Authority was so cheap!
Unlike Lord Skinwalker, the Twins had made the memory a literal trial!
"Thank you junior dragon. We were locked out as these vile–" Older Twin expressed praise and then his anger at the betrayal. Lind grasped that the mountain was a real place where a sect trial was set to test the ingenuity, weakness, and eventually wisdom of the trial takers.
Those that failed might get injured badly but death was not supposed to happen at all!
The Fiends had secretly infiltrated and replaced the outer Elders with puppets after the trial was sharded away in a special realm.
Lind noticed the casual mention of that did shock the crowd and even he found it fairly shocking.
A special realm was not something casually done but Older Twin acted as if it was nothing!
Even he had to expend all his effort in the Endless Peaks to carve out space for his Sect and Clan there.
Once the trials were taken over, the Twins had actually been trapped themselves and only when Lind killed them were they freed.
The survivors praised him but Lind frowned. What was the point of this trial for him? He knew what he was in but not why.
It was only as he looked behind him that a glimmer came to him before he became solemn.
"They all died originally, didn't they?" The instant he voiced the thought everything froze as his Master emerged from his younger self.
He looked with some joy at the living figures in front of him.
"The greatest terror of the Fiends was not their need to feed on us but the patience to plant seeds to bloom their vile plans where we all thought we were safe. Our Yin Yang Sect was wiped out while we were trapped. Several generations of trial takers died." Lind felt cold.
Still, what was the point? Why was he taking such a trial now?
His thoughts were clear and Younger Twin smiled at him.
"It was a simpler trial than you think but I must admit your Authority wiped the board unexpectedly. The trial was to test your ability to grow and that trusting an Inheritance is unwise. As you well know, not all cultivators are kind." Lind's face darkened.
The False Inheritances were well known to him but he understood that the Fiends were just as capable of laying such a fearsome event.
"You have saved 93% of the trial takers, the highest ever so far. Thank you." Younger Twin bowed to him and Lind knew that the survivors would likely be like Kora and Tal. He then pondered and had to ask.
"What happened back then once you were freed?" Younger Twin became grim. He then waved his arm and the golden space surrounded them.
"The sect was hollowed out. Millions were turned into resources and my brother and I were left with soul crushing karma and guilt. We spent billions of years fighting the bastards only to be turned into a resource for them. The sect was just a glorified slaughter house but none knew." Lind swallowed his saliva and felt a chill up his spine.
He had never considered his own legacy being turned on others thanks to his harmony but a new level of fear had been active in the past. Sects and Inheritances were too good to avoid and the Fiends long term planning turned those long sought opportunities into horrors.
His harmony afforded him peace of mind others did not enjoy.
Younger Twin then let him see it. A small number of thralls had made a morbid abattoir that reminded him of the more visceral horror movies of his old world. Thousands tried the trials every few years and were turned into resources.
In less than a decade, the sect was a good opportunity but full of risks. Still, the Twins' reputation was too alluring. They still came and became fodder for Fiends!
The various Halls were left to ruin while the residences were just a wasteland save the few inhabited by the thralls.
It was only when a prodigy of unparalleled skill and ability shattered the hidden traps to free the Twins that the horror came to an end.
Even being freed brought no joy. The devastation was clear to them and they disbanded the sect.
The Twins followed new paths at that point.
Lind awoke in a new room. It was lined in crystal caskets on shelves with both Twins now looking at him in appreciation.
[For saving so many, we grant you 3 choices. You have 10 years.] They then vanished and Lind wondered why they gave so long until he saw how long the bloody halls were!
His aura could extend for over a thousand kilometers but he saw no end to the halls!
He looked around and knew it would be a harsh choice even at 3! The few he recognized around him already tempted him but he needed to scan them all!
Lind began to quickly grasp his options as he moved through the treasure hall.

A ravaged land emerged from the chaos of the Ruined Islands. The power making it manifest overrode the normal dangerous situation.
A gigantic tower appeared and thousands of people emerged with shock on their faces. They were Apprentice to Journeyman Tiers at one time but they all knew they had died long ago.
Now, they were all Heaven Realms. They were peak Sun Tiers but their memories told them they could easily become Immortals.
All of them looked back at the tower and bowed low. The masters of the Yin Yang Sect had used a trial in their Inheritance to give them a chance.
Divine Memory was precious but could be a way for the dead to return if the right conditions were met. They also all remembered the massive emerald dragon.
He had saved them all.
They bowed once more before a swirling portal appeared. They stepped through and found themselves just outside a daunting wall of condensed dwarf star alloy. It was a good medium for defense but someone had inscribed a masterpiece on the wall to take it even farther.
If the controller wished, the dense material's natural gravity could crush all into it!
A small squad of dragons quickly found them but rather than suspect the massive crowd, they welcomed them.
[The Heart of Defiance welcomes you. Our Ancestor saved you and his Master requested we help you. It is his way so we will honor it.] The words made them weep as they had wondered how they would live in the current era but it seemed the Twins and their savior were far too kind!
The massive crowd was processed in to become the population the newly established country needed. A trustworthy body of people to support the war on the Fiends.

Lind knew nothing of what his actions had caused. He would not have disapproved but frowned at his Master pawning off the resurrected trial takers on his descendants.
He had spent 7 years criss crossing the treasure hall before he realized it was too damned large to see it all. Instead, he focused on what he needed.
Any treasure that could help him grasp his first Heaven Layer Mystery was his desire. Yet, things were never that easy.
He found a few elixirs that would help but there were just 5 of them and he knew that would not be enough in his case. Inducing the state to condense Mysteries was helpful but he suspected he needed far more than was allowed.
Artifacts were of no help either in that regard.
Thus, he now stood in a section of scrolls, jade slips, and even some specialized artifacts to store research and knowledge. All the rest would help with temporary increases in strength but knowledge would lay the path for creating his own.
He was able to pursue the excerpts to see what he wanted.
At the 9 year mark he finally made his choices.
[Master, I am ready.] His transmission brought both Twins back. They did not seem surprised where he was at all. He smiled and bowed before listing what he wanted.
[Please give me the following:]
[Myriad Compendium of Essence]
[The Wandering Demon Battles of Blood Sage]
[Last Transcripts of Soulfire]
Two of those seemed obvious but the Blood Sage seemed to surprise them. Still, the Twins made no comment and simply waved both their left hands in an identical motion to summon the records.
Lind took them and found himself back in the golden space. He quickly assumed a lotus position and began to absorb the knowledge in the jade slips.
He started with the compendium as it would help him recognize more profound ingredients in the future. It was far easier than he expected but it also humbled him.
He had underestimated the breadth of Mystery grade ingredients!
The Soulfire transcripts helped his weaving immensely. He had badly needed it as his limited knowledge of the Divine Realm weaving was obvious to him even now. He had an edge thanks to his harmony but that was not enough!
After those 2 gave him a lot of ideas, the last one fell into his hands. The Twins were likely confused but his recent experience in the trial made him realized he had to seriously examine his personal skills and techniques.
The Wandering Demon Battles of Blood Sage would help him infer his gaps and hopefully give him better leads to advance!
