Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 1618 - 1617 - Reminder

Chapter 1618 - 1617 - Reminder

The Glass Palace had been a hub for food. It had been a good one too as it had long been established with humans as the founders. Pre-existing powers like that were far more useful than making his own.

A lithe man in inky black robes floated over the smoldering ruins of many buildings. He saw the chaos and frowned.

His tactic had isolated his enemy but the obvious trap was still triggered but not in the way he wanted.

Lind Frey was not the same. He was so different compared to the previous timelines. It was as if the man he had known over millions of lives was gone.

[What did you do? Why are you gone?] The pure white eyes glared at the ants scurrying and simply waved his hand.

The entire Glass Palace was wiped from the surface of the Divine Lands!

It was just a casual gesture but an ancient stronghold of mercantile power was gone in an instant.

The demon fox tribes were gone and he noted they were no longer in his range. He glared out at the rolling waves of the Void Ocean.

He could feel them. Master Tier beasts under the surface observing him.

He hated it.

He had no ability to take them on yet. He was only on the 2nd layer of the Master Tier and 5 of the bastard things were more than enough to counter him. Of all the beasts, the krakens and leviathans were the most troublesome!

[Kept his promise at least. That leaves only 2 places left. One is–troublesome, but the other is within my power.] The man then glanced to the north.

He felt more of his extensions moving to find out what happened and anger filled him.

They had become so lazy and fat on the power he granted them! Lind Frey always exposed that facet no matter how many times he tried to correct it!

He closed his eyes and simply saw the vast network of his connections. He felt it was time for a reminder of his power.

{You had your orders. The disruptions were a good wake up call but you simply returned to your old ways. Pay the price.}

His vitality skyrocketed and his dantian surged with power as half the Fiends in the Divine Lands were consumed with their thralls.

He smiled as his progress was far more impressive than ever before but he could not simply skip ahead.

Heaven and Earth still restrained him that much.

[Your champion failed the first time and every time after. This time will be no–] His face suddenly shifted and the pudgy features of the Great One appeared from behind his mask.

The pale skin and sweaty brow still plagued him but at the moment he did not care!

Emerald Qi had flared in his dantian where many souls rejoiced!

His progress was poisoned! That bastard!

The Great One roared but quickly worked to purge the dangerous harmonic Qi. He should have been more careful but his anger had made him hasty.

He then saw about half his progress lost! Unlike other Fiends, he knew how to combat Lind Frey's harmony.

Yet, it was not as expected. It was far more violent and resilient than ever before! What was going on?!

Anger rose but he quickly calmed his heart. Emotions had led to too many failures in the past and alternate timelines. Lind Frey was his greatest threat but he was the last one.

He had beaten him every other time and the current run was no different. The result was already written.

Yet, things were not going well. He had lowered himself to give those ants a chance and they had failed him as well!

He gave them such a golden opportunity but it seemed all his food had forgotten their place in the world!

His eyes shined as his aura began to darken the very sky. The Heavens rumbled but he sneered as his arm swept away the paltry clouds.

Only a true tribulation could stop him now. Heavenly Wrath was tied to his connection to Heaven and Earth. It was so weak it was laughable!

Still, he did have a limit to maintain as a single tribulation stood between him and his final goal.

He would have to face it to achieve his true path.

Instead, he felt the vital forces of those creatures around him and sneered at their confidence that he could not reach them behind their many defenses.

He frowned as a certain area of the Eastern Continent was sealed off by various harmonic Qi. When did so many ascend?!

It was too early!

He noted the area and then closed his fists before sending out his message.

[I gave you a chance. You seem to need a reminder of who I am. You are all mine.]

His thoughts thundered across the Divine Lands. Unlike other Divine Realms, he could bypass all their mental defenses anytime he wished.

He felt a strain on his dantian, but he simply sped up the absorption of souls inside his reserves. Any wails or screams in the air around him were brief. He found it pleasing as some of those beings had allied with Lind Frey in other timelines.

He had been cutting away all future paths as much as possible but there always seemed to be more.

[Your final chance is annoying me but you have reminded me of my own complacency. The quiet war between us is over. Wherever you have gone, I will come when you return. You will be refined by me and there will be no more chances to stop me!]

He was about to shatter space when he paused. He felt it. An off sensation as if something had shifted but he could not quite place what.

He scanned the now empty lands below him but everything was dead. He was sure of it.

There was no more tainted harmonic Qi either anywhere. Yet, the feeling persisted. It was an instinct that if he left it would be a mistake.

He waited more than half a day but nothing happened. He wanted to stay longer but his efficiency was so much lower away from his cultivation artifacts.

They were too cumbersome to move easily and he had the ideal setup already. The sky shattered like glass and the Heavens rumbled but it felt more like a wail.

He sneered before stepping into the wounded sky. It slowly healed behind him before finally closing up.

Karu sat with Gaia staring up at the once wounded sky. She had never been so close before when she was so weak! He was far more terrifying to her compared to the memories she retained.

His casual slaughter and then attack reminded her how little people understood the Great One's horrifying power.

He could wantonly slaughter people by the direct connection he had forged to the lifeforce of Heaven and Earth.

He simply could not digest it all yet. He had to get stronger.

Limited attacks, however, were well within his purview, he simply wanted to get to the finish line or he would do it more often.

Consuming cultivators did not get him much even in the billions. It took trillions to advance now.

"What–what was that?" The little girl was shivering in stark terror. Karu smiled at her but she said nothing. Any words paled to the experience. She glanced at the small black cube in her hands. It was what was hiding and protecting them.

She tried to understand it but Lind had talked about partial phasing as well as severing connections to Heaven and Earth but that made no sense. Still, it worked.

She wondered why he never made them before but came to the conclusion only his current path made it possible.

He had always been creative but not like she was seeing now.

There was a crack suddenly as the cube turned to dust and air rushed in as if a vacuum had to be filled. Karu felt the stale and barren area clearly and shivered.

She had seen far too many of such places in her memories of the future. The Great One was stretching out his hand far sooner than before. Lind was not ready and many powers were likely having a very rude awakening.

"Spirits give us time. If Lind can become a Journeyman Tier, we stand a chance." She had never told him that hope. Normally it would not be enough but the last few iterations had seen explosive growth in the Journeyman Tier unlike anyone else she knew.

She picked up Gaia who refused to peel away and moved to the coastline rendezvous. Her people were free and the core was wiped by the Great One.

They could never be enslaved like that again.

The krakens and leviathans would take them back to the deeply hidden fortress in the Wild Sea. They would be safe there and the new generations would be taught not only how to get stronger but to protect against any future betrayals.

She had already warned them not to return to the Southern Continent. The Great One was ever vengeful and would be watching for them. The future was getting murkier no matter what it seemed.
