Chapter 1551 - 1550 - Anger
Chapter 1551 - 1550 - Anger
The palace was luxurious but Lind dismissed it all as Bori poured out his woes. It was no wonder he was stuck!
Lind had long thought he had become a Sovereign Tier but it seemed the phoenix clans had come for a progenitor of their own to nurture. It seemed his existence had spurred on the various races to see if any progenitors of their own existed.
Thus far, aside from Bori and himself, he knew of none.
Bori and Jur had been very happy. Even when Lind had been cut off, they had only worried about him. It was only when it was revealed that Lind had no interest in maintaining his familial relationships that Jur had been shattered.
She had been saved by Lind but her entire tribe had been willing to sacrifice her. Her own mother had been nearly killed as well.
Lind felt the old wave of guilt at that. He knew, of course, the exact reason Jur no longer wanted anything to do with him.
Bori revealed he had not been pleased either but as time passed and he saw all that Lind had been facing as well as he learned more of what had been hidden from the public, he appreciated how terrifying the danger actually was.
Lind shook his head but said nothing.
Finally, life at the Throne had actually not been bad but the phoenix clans had insisted he take wives from the clans. Bori had told them outright that his wife had final say. Jur had been unforgiving and never so happy at his choice.
She had been trained by extremely powerful beings and was a powerful tiger as well.
It was laughable until the Nightflame Clan had a champion challenge her. She barely scraped out a win but Bori could no longer let her keep fighting so he took over.
It was only then that the various phoenix clans learned how terrifying his power was. It was not even a contest! They only understood at that point that Bori would not bow to their whims.
Lind felt pride but then a question came to him.
"If all that is true, why do you have more wives now?" Bori blushed but then sighed.
"They cheated." Lind cocked an eyebrow but then laughed.
"They appealed to Jur!" Bori looked away and Lind only smiled.
"Mother Chu also got involved and explained to me that I have a responsibility to propagate my line across all the phoenix clans to rule one day with Jur at my side!" Lind only smiled wider as that sounded exactly like his wife.
A pair of young children suddenly came running around the corner. One was a precocious girl at the peak of the World Realm while a clear brother to her was in the first tier of the Sky Realm.
"Dad!" Both called out in alarm to see their father leaning on a stranger. The boy had dark flames that Lind recognized as likely being from Jur while the girl had pure white flames like Bori.
The boy summoned a decent grade 6 pair of swords while the girl had a spear.
Lind did not even attempt to defend himself as they struck. Bori only sighed as the weapons bounced off of them.
"An Immortal will not be bothered by that! I am just–tired. This is my old Master." Lind's eyes flinched at that introduction. He knew why but it still hurt.
The pair froze before looking ashamed.
"Please forgive me, senior! I only wanted to–" The boy started to speak but his sister slapped his arm to stop him.
They then bowed formally to him with cupped hands.
"It is a pleasure to meet you but I am here for your mother. Please excuse me." Lind's voice did not crack but Bori's pure white eyes seemed to feel the pain in it regardless.
The pair left the children behind as they finally came to a sliding door. It was flickering with the flames of Bori which showed it was his personal quarters.
Bori simply touched a panel to the left and it pulled apart to reveal a large bedroom and courtyard. Lind saw nothing but the figure laying in the bed.
She was sweating and exhausted but the dark tail and pointed ears revealed her as always.
Lind felt pain in his heart but sighed as he set Bori down. If he knew his daughter at all, what was about to happen would be brutal.
He carefully moved to her side and simply looked at her but frowned the more he saw. A deviation did not explain what he was seeing but he was not as suicidal as to force his Art on her.
He sighed once more and then gently tapped her head like he used to. Her head moved and she mumbled for a bit before her dark eyes opened slowly to look around.
She smiled warmly at Bori but frowned when she saw how far away from the bed he was. It took her a moment to sense the other figure but the instant she saw him, her claws swiped out.
Lind did nothing as the bounced off of him. Powerful as she should have been, she was no longer able to harm even his robes.
"GET OUT! GET OUT! GET OU–" She tried to scream him out of existence but ran out of steam quickly. He did not even budge.
"I am here in my capacity as an expert healer, or should I get my Mother here to tell you what I am sure you already know." The threat of Mira made Jur flinch. Despite burning the bond between them, Mira was still her grandmother and dearly loved.
Further, no one in their family had the desire to die under her glare.
She then fell back and seemed resigned.
"You can do nothing so just leave." He sighed as he then pointed his finger at Bori. The thread of emerald touched him and he deeply frowned at what he felt.
Bori did have severe deviation! What had the boy been doing?! Yet, his Art went into effect and his color improved as his foundation was restored. Strangely, it was far easier than anyone or anything he had attempted.
Jur noticed and a gentle look crossed it but she glared at him.
"What did you do?" He explained his current state and what he had achieved. He also explained he could not examine her in any normal way.
A frown crossed her face.
"You are stuck?" He nodded. "Good."
Lind sighed but then waved across her body with an unspoken question. She simply shrugged and he let his Art wash over her.
For the first time, he felt extreme resistance to his Art! Jur could stop him despite being of a lower realm than him!
He finally had confirmation of the limitations of his Art. He sighed as he sat down and put his hands on his forehead.
"Lady Jur," His choice of address actually made her hiss at him but he was only acknowledging what she desired from him. "I need you to accept I am helping you. You may not know this but you are not simply weakened, but dying. I cannot tell you more in my current state if you do not allow me to help you."
Bori sat up and looked at her pleadingly but Lind knew that would not work. He simply pushed the stool aside and put his head on the floor.
"I am no Father any longer but let me help you. I do not want you to die. No more and no less." Jur's aura flared and anger was clear in it but he did not move.
"My Papa died. You are just another expert that has nothing to offer me so leave." Lind tried to restrain it but his own temper was not to be underestimated.
"I HATE MYSELF! ARE YOU HAPPY?! I DESPISE HOW WEAK I AM! NOT WAS, AM!" His voice thundered and both flinched as his aura actually responded to his emotions.
Lind was breathing heavily as he felt a weight leaving him.
"THAT BASTARD WANTS TO EAT US ALL! NOT WAGE WAR, BUT CONSUME US! I AM NOT ABLE TO STOP HIM BUT BY THE SPIRITS I CAN SAVE YOU! YOU WANT TO HATE ME, THAT IS JUST FINE BUT YOU WILL LET ME HEAL YOU SO THOSE CHILDREN CAN SMILE OPENLY AGAIN IF NOTHING ELSE!" Lind felt his actual foundation rise just a bit during his tirade but his emerald eyes had Jur locked on to.
She was not wilting at all but her own aura flared out.
"YOU ABANDONED US! YOU DID WHAT YOU SWORE NEVER TO DO AND EXPECTED US TO FORGIVE YOU AFTER GRANDMOTHER SCOLDED YOU! YOU ARE NOT MY PAPA!" The pair had actual sparks lighting up between them
Any doubt of the familial bond would be dismissed at that moment.
Bori dithered as he knew both sides and could not find a solution but 2 figures blurred into the room.
"You are Grandfather?!" Both Jur and Lind turned to find the twins. The boy looked angry but the girl was looking at Lind with longing.
Lind sighed before he sat down and shook his head.
"I do not deserve that at all. I gave in to weakness and your mother rightly hates me. I have no qualms about her choice. I am proud of her for it, in fact." Surprise bloomed on all their faces but Lind did not care to indulge his anger any longer.
"Lady Jur, I can help you. I really can. If nothing else, let me do that. I will then leave and you never need to see me again." His solemn face seemed to cool the anger in Jur before she collapsed.
"Mama? Can he really help you?" Her daughter's question broke the final wall before she barely nodded.
"He is a Triple Maester. He is considered the standard for excellence. He is True Lord Lind Frey." Lind snapped up his head as the boy's face suddenly shifted in shock. The girl, however, slowly walked up to him and grasped his robes.
"Please, help Mama!" Lind smiled gently and nodded. He reignited his Art and got to work.
