Chapter 1545 - 1544 - Adaptation
Chapter 1545 - 1544 - Adaptation
Time had been lost in his research but Lind finally felt like he was getting a hang of his new understanding of his harmony.
The aspects of enhancement and restoration had actually become easier as he tested them. He was now able to control what he wanted to enhance or restore with relative ease but the last part, adaptation, was a lot harder.
He only barely felt it in comparison to the other 2 sides. He also realized he could not make an Art from the other 2. It seemed like it was not so easy.
He needed to grasp all 3 aspects to actually mold his harmony by itself. How was he to master adaptation?
He spent months just contemplating it before he looked at his own body. He had used his harmony to create his new form. It was not all that went into it but the explosive growth of his elemental nodes and his abilities stemmed from it.
He had adapted his body to his harmony and goals so he could grasp the essence of it.
He had healed Tess and changed her so she could become a 6 elemental. It was not so easy to do, obviously, but he had done it. He also remembered his recent experience with Abby and Ember.
He had fundamentally changed them completely from limited spirit tools to more wide ranging tools. While the fantastic opportunities helped, he had nurtured them himself to rebuild their foundations within his own body.
Even Haro had been shocked.
Lind realized the terrifying power as he recalled the Throne of Defiance itself. He had extracted an entire mountain range to bring up the Harmonic Dragons to the 4th layer. He had made an entire race possible with his harmony!
He had made a slice of the 4th layer unlike any other without causing a major disruption to his neighbors.
He felt all the blood drain from his face as he realized the full implications of what he had already done without realizing how far he could go. He could literally reshape the 4th layer if he wanted to!
Still, that was arrogant. It also was one way. Could he only truly impose on the world without learning anything of his own? He had stepped so far from being a normal Immortal due to that. He then wondered if he could reverse the process.
The main objection Helsgath and the other 2 True Lords had was he was purely a dragon no matter what else he was. While his harmony might bridge the gap to face the Rebirth Grounds, why not learn from what was around him.
He stayed in a lotus position as he let his harmony spread around him. It gave him a feel of the flamestone but the lack of anything else made it frustratingly slow.
At some point, he stopped trying to decipher the sensations and see what he could resonate with. He felt the similarity in other flame Daos he had touched on before. There was a different combination that responded to the Dao of Life in him.
Enlightenment flooded him and he lost himself in a strange trance. It was not about advancement or even grasping the next step of his cultivation. It was about understanding the heart of his harmony.
It was already the Dao of Defiance, so what were the 3 aspects about? He wished he understood it but his mind was flooded with the flamestone right then.
He followed the feeling until a shimmering light began to emit from his body. Rather than emerald light, it was the same colors as the flamestone and shifted just as quickly!
It was as if he had become a part of it!
Lind was seeing visions of flaming birds in his mind. Some were so vast, they could cover the entirety of the 4th layer. Their flames were of all colors and he felt a smile spread on his face.
He felt something as he looked up at them. Their calls were into the darkness around them when he saw life begin to form from the embers and sounds. He saw eggs of all kinds take root in the nests made of flames.
Lind laughed as he saw the birth of new races. He also saw vibrant birds that had lower quality bloodlines but it all vanished as a bright light came from behind him.
He slowly turned around and had to put up a hand to block the blazing light. It was like he was looking at a sun!
"By the spirits, a Suneater Phoenix." He recognized it from the glare alone but it dimmed to reveal a tall and statuesque woman. Her angular features suited her well as her blazing eyes had flames for eye lashes!
"I expected one of my many descendents to learn the secret of the Living Flame Crystal, but it is a dragon of all things. A strange one as well." Her voice was soft but very clear. He cupped his hands and bowed.
"True Lord Lind Frey greets senior." She arched a golden eyebrow at him. She then leaned down and looked him over. He hid nothing as it would be pointless. Even if he did not have his full senses, he knew he was before a Divine Will.
"What are you?" He smiled and simply thought of his history. She seemed to want to ask questions but then froze as a particular image of Feng flashed. She stayed silent and watched his memories.
"You have led a very interesting life. A dragon soul, eh? I see we have underestimated humans if you can become like this." Lind bowed once more. He looked around and had a question of his own.
"Was that a race memory?" She nodded.
"It is the first memory. I gained it when I became a Divine Realm. Despite being a progenitor, you may see the birth of the dragons as well." Lind actually looked forward to that if true.
Lind felt something then. A connection to the being next to him. He whipped his head around in shock but she was just as surprised as he was.
What had happened?!
He quickly scanned his memory and realized what had happened.
The Dao of Life! It was the single unifying Dao and had reacted to her admission of what he had seen and felt.
Yet, it was not just the Dao. Many beings had grasped that Dao yet no synergy occurred between races like he had just experienced.
"A strange dragon, indeed." She did not elaborate and he knew it was restricted. He had pushed beyond the Immortal Realm but some things were still withheld from him.
"Am I able to benefit from the Rebirth Grounds?" A harsh feeling washed over him but then it vanished. She seemed to consider something before shaking her head.
"I do not know. Normally I would say it is a death sentence for all but my race, but you are different." She looked up and a familiar shimmering crystal appeared. Lind had not felt it at all but now that it did, he realized something.
"You–you are there?!" A smile spread on her face.
"A phoenix has its secrets but yet, that is a part of me I used to make the Throne. I was a Suneater Phoenix but transcended that to become a Living Flame Phoenix." Lind knew a Living Law was far more profound than a normal Law. He had no reference since such a phoenix was unknown to him but the results spoke for themselves.
"Rebirth is an interesting concept but I think you are right. I cannot directly benefit. Yet, I think I can do something else." She tilted her head as he reached out with his harmony. It was a single thread of emerald light.
It touched the floating crystal and Lind gently brought together the 3 things he had found made up the Dao of Defiance.
Rather than adapt the Living Flame Crystal to him, he shifted in his dantian what he could from it!
Shock flared on her face before she saw something impossible!
A dragon and phoenix intertwined briefly around him. He was not taking it in but an aspect of the phoenix passed to the dragon!
The aspect of rebirth unique to their race!
She knew hybrid bloodlines existed but they usually took after one side or the other more.
She had never heard of a racial aspect being absorbed at all!
Lind felt a tremor and the Living Flame Divine Phoenix vanished before he was dropped back into the normal world.
His body was covered in sweat but the stone around him felt intrinsically different. In fact, all the flames around him felt different, including his own!
His emerald flames had a new feeling to them! He checked his body and it was still very much a dragon. He had wondered what adaptation would do but it seemed he had been right about a part of it.
His harmony, and thus his soul, had only been shifted. The changes he needed were there and nowhere else.
It was only when he glanced around his room that he frowned. Light crystal holders were toppled and the shelves were disrupted. Even the mirror stand had been tilted askew.
The tremor in the vision seemed to have been happening in the physical world as well! He felt guilt as he summoned a communication jade stone to reach out to his contacts. He had to apologize and let Helsgath know what happened.
