Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 1529 - 1528 - Instinct

Chapter 1529 - 1528 - Instinct

Kang was enjoying his fight with one of his commanders but at some point he felt the itch. It was not something that could easily be put into words nor was it a Talent, but he knew someone was watching with a tinge of malice in their observation.

The battle finally ended as he struck the solar plexus of Solok. The man was a veteran of the mercenary group but always sought to increase his prowess.

Kang wanted his mercenaries to be strong and was happy to improve their foundations through battle.

He had been sought out as he was something of a trustworthy figure. They completed their tasks with a high degree of efficiency but he frowned as the dome protection was dispersed.

It only took him a moment to notice their slave support was gone. The person in charge was in a daze too.

"We are under attack. Find our gopher." His voice was not loud but the 70 plus members quickly dispersed in an organized fashion.

He picked up a towel and used water Qi to cleanse his body. Solok moved off with the others but Kang held back. He scanned the area but found nothing odd.

He frowned as that seemed impossible. Someone had taken their mule and disoriented his guard without anyone the wiser.

He did not like the implications.

It required a level of stealth or skill that should not be possible in the lower worlds.

How could an ant escape their prowess?

The Immortals of the Celestial Fields were pathetic but one of them seemed to have considerable skill.

Despite his band spreading out, no clues were found. Kang found it disturbing that one of their supporters was taken but could not be found now.

"Leader, the guard was touched by something I do not recognize but he will recover. None of his defenses in his robes nor his artifacts reacted at all either." Solok looked confused as he was still a bit exhausted but his skill at analysis was one of the best of the mercenaries.

Kang accepted it and his aura washed over Ogros. The large man was simple mentally but his body was a stunning work of art. He was a rare breed of body cultivator that could face tribulation lightning with their body alone at times!

Something that could affect the man had to be powerful but for that very reason, his robes, artifacts, and his 2 gauntlets were empowered to compensate for mental attacks on him.

Yet, he confirmed not a single one had any traces of Qi showing activation. Ogros also had his Dao traces flowing to protect him which further complicated how he ended up the way he did.

Kang closed his eyes as he let his thoughts go. He had lived for about 10 million years and had built up his mercenary band from scratch. They took any job that brought them power or resources.

The current one seemed like easy money. The Shattered Peak Faction had demanded the head of a dragon True Lord–

His eyes snapped open as he realized what happened. He summoned a small disc with 2 arms set at different angles. He infused his Laws into it.

The disc glowed gold and the larger of the 2 arms moved to a symbol few would recognize.

"Damned Authority! The one damn thing we can't stop!" Kang's declaration made all in earshot freeze. Dao might seem like a defense but True Lords were favored by Heaven and Earth once recognized.

He waited while the shorter arm slowly began to spin. He frowned as it seemed to be not working like it should be.

It was a rare artifact that could trace energy unique to beasts, namely True Lords. They had instant vitality but so did body cultivators.

They did, however, have that trait not many thought about, Authority. The ability to impose their will at the cost of that same vitality. In the Divine Lands, several True Lords could exist at once but in the Celestial Fields it was a single True Lord to race ratio.

Even then, it had to be a very high quality bloodline to even attempt it.

Thus, the artifact Kang held would never be conceived of. An artifact to track Authority of a True Lord!

"Was it because it was too weak?" Solok spoke up but Kang knew that did not matter. Any use of Authority would leave strong traces for the artifact.

Why was it not finding his target? He narrowed his dark eyes as he pushed it as far as he dared. It was only a peak Law Grade item as grade 8 would wipe out all their purses if he tried to get one to replace it.

Still, there was no way the local ants should know about such an artifact. He still had a general direction.

"Search in that direction. I will narrow the field once I get more information." The men and women moved with swift discipline at his command.

The open plains did not show any sign of disturbances nor any place to hide, yet Kang knew he was right. The enemy was hiding there.

He had no idea which True Lord was behind it, but he only knew of 3 active ones and 1 dormant one. The last one was sealed away in a Throne so it could not be them.

The black shelled tortoise was the most likely culprit as a roc would not be sneaky like that.

He wanted his property back but a True Lord was not one he could touch lightly. His target was one thing, but the other True Lords, even in the lower world, were protected by higher powers.

If it was the black shelled tortoise, the Flowing Depths Faction would wipe them out on their return if he harmed them.

He was moving after his people when a disquiet fell over him. He did not waste time questioning it.

"To the sky, now!" His voice boomed and all barely left the ground when thick spikes shot up. Most were stone but others were pure metal!

Kang felt a cold sweat down his back but the skies were not safe either as violet lightning slammed into them!

Demonic lighting with a stone spike attack? Were there more than one enemy?

The report of their target came back to him as he dodged both stone spike and demonic lightning.

[Our target is here!] His transmission made them focus but things shifted suddenly. Their flying vanished!

Kang had no idea what was going on as he felt no Qi nor Laws at first but he simply trusted his instincts and shifted his orientation parallel to the surface. He flew down!

He then shifted the degree until he was going up. He spread the knowledge but was shocked when many of his band were different from him!

Such a level of control should be far beyond an Immortal!

Kang summoned a cube of dark metal. He did not dare infuse it with Qi but waited to see it take effect. Yet, he instead felt no change! The Void Cube should lock on and pull on the source of any Qi or Laws used on it!

Natural flows were ignored but controlled flows should make the cube absorb it all!

What was going on?!

He saw his members stumbling or falling as chains made up of golden energy appeared! He felt nothing from them!

What was going on?!

A damned trap! It had all been a trap to catch them without a direct confrontation! A head on battle would have been theirs to claim but they walked into range of their Arts! Further, they used some kind of energy none of their artifacts or Arts could defend against!

The sun hardly moved before Kang was the only one still free. His mercenaries were injured yet alive. He looked at the shimmering chains and confirmed no Dao was involved. The Laws felt alien to him.

Natural and demonic Qi did not feel like what he saw.

"I was right." A new voice made Kang summon his halberd. It was a simple weapon in design but anyone that thought it would be weak would be dead before they knew how.

He was about to attack when every hair on his body stood on end. A pair of reptilian emerald eyes locked him in place. The tall man had no weapons but he towered over Kang physically and with his aura.

He could not see anything else as his halberd fell from his weak fingers.

"That artifact is interesting but because it is based on the old system, it cannot work well against me." The fine emerald hair drooped over his shoulder as his dark tanned fingers plucked the Void Cube from his hand. The artifact did not react at all!

Kang felt shock as emerald flames engulfed it but no reaction happened.

A smile that made chill go down his spine crossed the handsome man. He then turned to Kang and said only 1 word before it went dark.

[Sleep.]
