Chapter 1502 - 1501 - Immortal Cloud
Chapter 1502 - 1501 - Immortal Cloud
The tavern had become the center of all the local power. The Town Lord rushed over as word had spread like wildfire.
The dead man had already been stripped of all his valuables but not by Lind and his companions.
They sat quietly as chaos was raging around them until the rotund Town Lord finally made his way to them nervously.
The balding man rubbed his hands quickly as he bowed respectfully as he was only a Shard Tier.
He was clearly not going to advance but his emblem marked him as an official. He was likely a family member of some prestigious family.
"My dear visitors, I am so glad you revealed this vile snake in our midst. We are ever so grateful." Lind refrained from glaring at the man. There was no way he had not known about the scam. The medallion had not been active and even a Shard Tier could easily tell that.
Bribes clearly had changed hands!
"I merely happened to have a little wisdom." Lind played it humble. Yet, the Town Lord seemed very worried as he was sweating heavily.
"Indeed, senior, but an esteemed guest is coming and we cannot welcome them–" Lind glared at the man. He had received an instruction yet the man in front of him wanted to try and benefit?
"We were told to stay here. Unless you have an order from the Searing Bow Sect, we will stay here." The Town Lord paled as he obviously did not have such an order and many witnesses had already confirmed the instructions.
He simply wanted to be part of the credit or to save his hide.
An investigation would mean his death, most likely. He could not touch them either as they had an explicit order too.
Lind was not letting him gain a damn thing. The women with him were also glaring at him.
The Town Lord wanted to try and leverage his position but he was far weaker than the power involved.
The stalemate seemed about to be challenged again when the crowd outside began to make a lot of noise.
Only a day had passed but Lind was not surprised if the envoy arrived quickly. The sect was one of those that valued their members as family.
He used his senses briefly to sense the exterior of the tavern and was shocked to see a figure dancing in the clouds!
She moved with ease in the firmament but she was only a Sliver Tier!
Flying was heavily taxing in the 4th layer for all but Sovereign Tiers, yet the lithe woman in pink robes moved in the skies like it was her home.
Lind quickly went through the information on notable Immortals and matched such an ability to a famous one.
Immortal Cloud! She danced in the clouds as she struck from the Heavens!
She was a rising star in the entire 4th layer! Lind felt shocked she had been sent but her sky blue eyes seemed to sense his scan and he quickly retracted it. There were several Sovereign Tiers making their way in the town so hopefully he was safe.
The Town Lord was sweating even more as the crowd became stirred up. He seemed torn between running away or trying to ingratiate himself when the woman walked in.
Her Sliver Tier aura gave him confidence but Lind internally sneered at him. The man was an idiot! Cultivation realm did not matter in the current situation!
"Where is the holder?" Her voice was not loud but it cut through the crowd like a knife through butter. She had a quiver on her left shoulder but no bow was visible. According to rumor, she needed no bow.
Lind raised his hand and she locked on him. He bowed respectfully as Astra and Neena joined him. The Town Lord, for reasons that escaped Lind, preened as she approached.
"Welcome to my–" He tried to ingratiate himself but her cold stare froze his blood. Lind felt his will to survive dwindle just as he watched the sky blue eyes reduce the man to jelly.
"My sect has already begun an investigation. Do not leave this town or you will die." Her words were not only for the Town Lord. Lind produced the medallion and she snatched it from his hands.
A complicated look flashed over her face but he remained bowing. She then looked at him in appreciation.
"Who taught you about how these work?" Lind was calm as he looked up at her at that question.
"Her name was Yu but I knew no other. She had a bow of obsidian and flames." Immortal Cloud widened her eyes slightly but slowly nodded.
"Senior Yu travels even now so that is not surprising but she must have trusted you to teach you that." Lind smiled as he produced a jade slip. It was very worn but still functional.
She took it and examined it. She then smiled and returned it to him.
"I see, you were very lucky to learn from her." Lind was not lying at all for once. He had encountered the aether child Yu long ago. She was a terrifying bow woman. She could split a flies wings with ease and it would not die!
"I have heard of the Immortal Cloud only recently at the tournament. It is an honor to meet you." Lind bowed once more but the name drop was intentional. The Town Lord suddenly looked like a ghost.
Any hope the man had of escaping his fate was now sealed as that Dao name was famous. She had placed highly in the tournament despite being a Sliver Tier!
"F–f–fellow Daoist–" Immortal Cloud merely swiped her left hand and his head went flying. Lind had seen a thin thread of water and air Qi make up the attack. It was elegant and used a remarkably little amount of Qi for devastating effects.
Defensive items below peak grade 7 would fail!
"You have done well. You are released from the command to stay and can go where you wish. We will continue the investigation." Lind bowed once more and the trio quickly left the bottom floor for their rooms.
The cost had been refunded at that instant Lind had exposed the scam and the order to stay had come through. He still gave the proprietor some peak grade 6 Qi stones to compensate for the likely damages to come.
He was finally isolated in his room when Haro spoke up.
[Master, that Immortal sensed me.] Lind froze at his words. The black ring was impossible to hide entirely yet Lind had been able to misdirect senses.
If Immortal Cloud could find it, at the Sliver Tier especially, was not good at all!
The ring marked him!
He could not abandon it nor could he contain it. If the ring was discovered, it would reveal him with ease!
Any dragon or near dragon would easily recognize him due to it!
"How?" He only knew the rumors about the Immortal Cloud. Her ability to fly on par with a Sovereign Tier was the most famous but beyond that there were varying levels of others.
[I am unsure but her aura locked onto me. I felt it. Her Art that allows her to fly through the clouds may be able to do something like that.] Lind narrowed his eyes but he had no way to cover everything.
He was about to start a cultivation session when he felt a tremor in the air. It was not directed at him but he heard screams.
It seemed killing had begun.
He wanted to investigate but he did not have the power to reveal at the moment. The surges continued for most of the night and next day.
She began to go farther away but then it all stopped at evening of the next day. He had been unable to concentrate until then.
He finally sighed and was about to try again when his instincts flared. He then felt a presence at his door. He sighed as he stood up.
He opened his door to find a bloodied but totally unharmed Immortal Cloud there. She glanced at his right hand.
"You are not what you seem, senior Liam." He said nothing and only tilted his head before waving her in.
She scanned his room but found nothing as only his ring remained to betray him. Abby and Ember were beyond any Immortal's reach. Yet, they could be seen if his sleeves were pulled back.
"Honored Immortal Cloud, what can I do for you?" He honestly did not know what she wanted yet her sky blue eyes were harsh as she seemed to measure him within a millimeter of his life.
"I do not know why you are hiding your strength but you are too used to being powerful. The way you move reveals what you are as much as that ring you hide. As a favor for what you did for my Master's brother in arms, I give you this." She handed him a small disc.
He quickly understood what it did but frowned and handed it back.
"A peak grade 7 Distortion Disc will not work. I tried it." He revealed nothing but admitted everything. Her surprise was clear yet she did not press him for answers.
"Then all I can do is pray to the spirits you are not found out. If you need something from us, however, use this." A small arrow was given to him.
It had no fletching nor even a pointed tip. It only had the shape of it. An artifact and he felt similarities between it and the medallions. He bowed low before storing it away.
She said nothing but left quickly. He glanced out his narrow window to see her shooting into the sky. White fluffy clouds followed in her wake.
He sighed before focusing on his disguise. It seemed he had much to do!
