Chapter 1301 - 1300 - Justification
The Endless Peaks had limited space but cultivators were long term planners. If there was not enough space for their plans, they would make what they needed.
The most common solution was to maximize space on the slopes by inverting space with formations on every structure. Thus, a single tower could be equivalent to a town on the inside. It was simple but resource intensive.
Inverting space was easy for a storage treasure due to its varying sizes and relatively stable nature, but a living space was very different. The folded dimension technology was not something anyone could pull off and usually only a separate set of rooms could be made.
No one knew Lind Frey had modified it to make his Clan's headquarters.
Still, it was the most common due to being well understood. It was not the only solution.
The discovery of small barren land masses floating in the Endless Peaks were not unheard of but now there were powers that found them useful to set up their headquarters as it was far less resource intensive.
The guilds especially found them attractive as they could spend more resources on protecting their interests or fostering fields in the case of herbalists and alchemists.
Finally, there were areas like the Icy Path where the Qi had allowed the natural bridge of peaks to make a small continent. Many of them were very harsh climates with the Icy Path being an extreme but it was no different from settling lands on any other layer.
The Serenity Sect was a good example of this as the peaks they settled on were intertwined by massive plant roots and earth. It had taken a long time for the plants there to allow other races to settle but the healing sect finally succeeded and created a powerful organization that few could measure up to.
The guilds had taken over the former Knife Edge Bazaar area as it was the largest floating island. It also still had the foundation even after the devastating attack brought by the Fiends.
They only had to repair the facilities and expand others as they desired.
It was a good deal for all as the guilds quickly returned to spread their goods around that were desperately needed. This, of course, included the notorious weaving guilds.
There was an alliance of 5 of them that had long been established by humans and demons so long ago no one remembered when they started. While other races did work for them on occasion, they were not exactly employed as a first choice.
The reason being was the open secret of how their weavings were so powerful.
Weaving was still essential at times so there was no way to completely ignore them, but given a choice, many powers went with formation masters.
That all changed with the revelations from Lind Frey. It was now not only possible to raise up weavers that did not rely on shady techniques but anyone with the potential could learn!
The 6 elementals also had a much higher synergy with the profession with almost none of the downsides of having to strengthen their souls.
Something about improving their harmonies also improved their soul power.
There was doubt at first, but Lind Frey had proven it during the battle with the soulless over and over. He made weavings right in front of anyone watching and never once used anything but his own soul as the foundation of his sigils.
He did incorporate normal materials but that was all.
With centuries of foundation and proof, the higher and supreme powers were thrilled to have a new alternative profession with no moral issues attached. Of course, the existing guilds did not stand for it but Lind Frey did not deny them his secrets on the foundation he had built.
Unfortunately, they discovered that it would mean abandoning all their progress and having to start over. It would take millennia for them to reach the heights they already enjoyed.
Thus, they always kept a harsh on the Frey Clan as it could not yet supply weaving options as much as they could. Their growth, however, left them gnashing their teeth!
Further, they spread rumors that Elementals often were seen in the Frey Clan too so it spread some doubt but it was hard to prove a negative. Also, the respect Lind Frey had built up with the demonic forces was nearly impossible to overcome.
Recent news, however, had caused the 5 guild leaders to meet.
They had chosen to meet at a tavern in the bustling Guild City as it had come to be called. The room was high end with protection and deflection formations. The group was decked out in fine robes and jewelry in some cases.
None of it was decorative. All of the items were at least high grade 7 to low Law Grade artifacts.
There were 2 women and 3 men. The women were older but the men had strange appearances. It was like they were malnourished but their auras were powerful Radiant Tier.
"I see you fools have dipped into darker practices to keep up your profits." One of the older women in shimmering violet robes sneered as she sipped at her steaming tea. Her thinning white hair was neatly tied back by an expensive hairpiece. It was set with sapphires and rubies.
Anyone that thought it was simply a fashion item would not know how they died.
The woman next to her had close cropped silver hair but smiled wide at her words.
"Would it really hurt to recruit some of those promising seedlings? They really are quite good even if they are slower to progress." The 3 men flinched as they had firmly refused to even entertain the newcomers to their field.
"Bah, they are too expensive to rear. There is nothing wrong with–" One of the men balding in dark robes was cut off by a rail thin man next to him. His robes were golden but looked too big for him. His body had clearly shrunk from its previous dimensions.
"We are not here to waste time arguing, you all heard that brat executed one of the Sacred Ones. He had a list of names they killed and a trial. It was all public and open but he gave nothing else! He has to know more!" The 5 nodded in unison at his words.
"He somehow captured that fanatic and got them to confess! He has to know what we desperately want! We could finally enact our plans to round up those useless creatures for our own needs!" The final man rasped out as he knocked his staff onto the floor.
The women both let out sighs while the other 2 men actually looked at him like he was a fool.
"Even if we could leverage information to such an advantage, those terrorists would only be emboldened if we did that. You are missing the point! This is the opportunity to make the Frey Clan fall down!" The rail thin man spoke sternly but the other 3 nodded with his words.
The raspy man rolled his eyes at them.
"Don't pretend to be politicians. You all have not stopped using those walking resources anymore than I have! If we can get the information we need, we can have all the justification in the world to take them in as we wish!" They could not argue that last point but the woman in violet robes conjured a flame to light her pipe before speaking.
"It is not political, it is a fact you oaf. The theories of that brat are true. The righteous powers will banish us if we do not change. What we want is to take the pie out of his hands and place it back in ours alone! This is a chance for that! If we can prove he is in collusion with those terrorists, we can force him to give up being a new power thwarting us!" She looked at him as if he was an idiot.
The raspy man sneered but settled back.
"Bah! We all know it won't be that easy but we have some allies to rely on. The Silver Crow Sect is still holding a grudge and their allies are also displeased with how restrictive the Inheritance site is being run." The close cropped woman spoke up and a glint of greed flashed in all their eyes.
All 5 of them had deep experience in the Laws of Death and Nihility. Oblivion was not impossible to grasp but they were too old. Still, they could send others if the Frey Clan did not have treaties forbidding their specific guilds from arriving in their lands.
The Frey Clan had made a clear stance and avoided the terrorists attack despite the 5 of them spreading rumors to incite them!
"So, you have already put plans into motion, old Ba?" The rail thin man was suddenly pinned in place as her faded blue eyes locked onto him.
"Call me old one more time and your traitorous apprentice won't have to poison you again." Her aura became sharp and sigils flared on her left arm. He did not even blink as a blade hovered in front of him.
"ENOUGH!" The pipe in the violet robed woman flared and both stood down. Of the 5, she was the strongest. "Sigh, just once we should get through a meeting without distractions. The Silver Crow Sect has already demanded the Frey Clan to reveal what they know. If they fail to do so, things will finally leave an opening for us to strike. Be ready."
With that, she vanished from the room. The other 4 looked disgruntled but could only depart. Ba was walking down the bustling street when she noticed something. The shop carrying the mark of the Frey Clan was closed.
Her eyes narrowed. Why was it closed? There was no damage nor other issue she could see.
"What is that brat up to? Has he anticipated us?" She shook her head as only time could tell but she felt disquiet in her heart. The times were changing no matter what but she wanted to control her own fate, not the other way around.
She looked up at the blue sky and hoped they would finally put a stake in the heart of the rising Clan.
