Chapter 1201 - 1200 - Mistress Evangeline
Chapter 1201 - 1200 - Mistress Evangeline
Many auras swept over Lind as he entered the Golden Auction House but the instant they detected the young woman in front of him, they moved on. He was curious if it mattered who served who but as he had only dealt with the information brokers, he had never seen if there was a difference.
He was not the only Immortal being guided around but he did see some poor souls trying to navigate the sea of people to reach the counter. The Golden Auction House did not prevent this as it all would be sold in some way via them or a profit will be taken from an external sale done in the lobby.
Business, even at the edge of life and death, never stopped.
They ascended the stairs quickly and left the chaos of the first floor behind. He felt powerful barriers for the next several floors but honestly did not know what was on them.
He knew a few had to be storage or private meeting areas but there were no markings to indicate it on the exterior. It made security fairly tight since only employees knew what was where.
He knew there was a lower auction house back on the first floor but a shift to an open hall as the walked up ward revealed the VIP auction house. It was usually done for commission slots but he had heard some rumors that a true auction would be set up for some rare materials.
It piqued his interest slightly but his savings were not as bottomless as they once were.
He hid what he was as he had no interest in starting a business or making relationships. He did, however, have to pay for others not speaking about him.
"My Mistress heard someone else ascended a few months ago, they died apparently." Lind did not even pause but his eyes narrowed. There was no way they did not know the truth but why needle him on it?
"Pity." He spoke a single word coldly but the girl frowned.
"Maybe they are still alive then." A mental sneer entered his mind. They wanted to know if he cared?!
He honestly did not know the woman and the memory irritated him for different reasons.
They finally ascended to the quieter floors that had open hallways off the stairs. The information brokers wanted people to turn down the hallways after all.
The main hall, however, was a slight trap. If there was no guide, the individual would quickly get lost due to some perception formations. Those kinds of formations demons excelled in.
Poison need not be lethal to affect someone. Lind was not lost at all. His harmony purged such effects on top of his draconic body. Whoever created the formation did not take that into account or it was not entirely impossible his host hid those features from him.
He did not dare to use any of his Talents in the tower. Touch was impossible to hide if used but even his Eyes would be discovered as he had seen more than once on the first floor.
Several twists and turns, even going in a convoluted circuit, the pair finally arrived at a crystal door. Lind knew it was there but it was always hidden until he arrived just like before.
It was not a formation doing it either. A weaver of the 7th Circle made it and they were very good. Even being aware of it did not prevent it from hiding the door from his senses.
The girl knocked in a pattern. It was always different but he frowned as he felt Qi flow from her at the same time. That was not normal.
The issue was did she intentionally leak it or was she that incompetent at the Sliver Tier?
The crystal door glowed through red, yellow, and blue before it simply vanished. It was not a spatial manipulation but some kind of retraction into the walls that was hidden behind the glow.
His emerald eyes noticed the slots on all 4 sides but made no comment as he crossed the threshold. The glow returned in reverse order as the crystal door reappeared.
A sprawling pavilion lay in front of him with a view to a wild garden beyond. Bright sunlight bathed the green and insects that flew between. An ornate white metal table with cushions was laid out at the center but no one else was nearby.
He sighed as his fingers lit up.
"I am not here to play today, Evie." He made no other move but the idyllic vista vanished entirely. A large and ornate office replaced it as a voluptuous woman frowned at him. Her lavender skin was almost black but her eyes were bright pink.
She had hair done up neatly in a bun for some reason as it shimmered with both azure and black. He was not sure which color was natural as she had different colors before for her hair. Her eyes as well were not always pink.
There was even one visit where a lithe woman was there and not the current one!
"You are grouchier than usual. You never let me play!" She scrunched up her dark robes but Lind was not amused as he raised his hands. They still glowed!
She held up her hands as she stopped playing.
"Ya know, you are in a place many wish to be. You should be more grateful." His anger spiked at that.
"I don't wish to be here at all! It was you that practically kidnapped me before I taught you how foolish that was!" Lind had come to the Bazaar nearly 180 years ago. He already knew a bit back then and waited for a guide as he had today.
He had been simply going to buy information but then Evie literally showed up in the middle of negotiations and physically pulled him away. She was a peak Radiant Tier demoness!
He assumed she felt an instinct or something about him but he had to transform into a dragon to stop her! He had broken her office back then!
She stuck her tongue out but he did not crack a smile. He knew it was all an act. The fact he used a shortened version of her name was more blackmail than true closeness.
"You are just buying boring information. I want to hear about–" The now dark wooden table at the center of the room shattered into kindling. Shock appeared on her face as she clearly had felt nothing!
"I pay, you tell me what I want. You can find out what you want on your own!" It was the one thing Evie kept asking him for that he refused to give. Information on himself!
"That woman took an Oath not to talk about you! It was annoying!" Now it was Lind's turn to be surprised. Why would a random stranger do that? He quickly recalled the scene and saw another familiar face.
Oz. He was there and dressed far better. Did he make a bargain with her? The man was slippery to be sure but a trusted friend once. Lind felt a twinge for a moment but he snuffed it out.
His anger suddenly was stronger and made the room heavy. Evie was even more confused but then shrugged before a rough green stone was tossed to him. Lind examined it before 3 elixirs appeared in front of her.
The vials were pristine and the red, azure, and green base colors glittered with golden sigils floating inside them. She looked at them in greed but he swept from the room.
The door let him out and silence descended.

"Was he as you remember?" Evangeline was now aloof and serious as a familiar woman stepped out from a physical divider. It was a simple artifact but anything behind it was suppressed entirely from all senses. Even the mighty nose of the greatest wolf would never find someone there.
The woman looked shocked and confused but shook her head.
Evangeline nodded as she expected it. Lady Night Immortal had indeed taken some kind of Oath that she could not reveal anything about the Emerald Immortal without his permission.
Further, she was limited in what she could say about the 2nd layer but the fact it had faced similar hardship made the woman shiver.
She had not seen a dragon in so long so when one came calling, she wanted it! She had severely underestimated his power!
Further, he was odd. It was like he was afraid of people but would not quite abandon them. It was strange but unlike anyone else, he was immune to half her weavings and subtle perception poisons.
She had never encountered anyone like that in 5 million years of being alive. A clue finally arrived but it was practically useless.
The soulless also proved the theory that descending was suicide for the 2nd layer. They would wipe them out without even trying no matter how many Radiants tried to stop them.
The terror of them was deeply ingrained after a million years of slaughter. Why was the only hope for them all so damned distant?!
She sighed and planned to wait. Answers would come. Someone would slip and she would finally have him. Her prey would never escape her.
