Chapter 1191 - 1190 - Trap of Will
Chapter 1191 - 1190 - Trap of Will
Strength suddenly flooded Lind's body as emerald flames seared the Fiend's flesh.
"Damn it!" He understood now. The trap was not the choice but the Dao of Choice.
"Clever bastard. You can't refine my soul because you are busy breaking my will. You used a Dao!" The Fiend grimaced but sneered at him.
"It does not matter. I really killed those filthy beast sons of yours! You failed! They are dead!" A massive emerald flame burst outward to the shock of the Fiend.
"HOW?! How are you doing that?!" Lind ignored it as he desperately tried to do something dangerous. The shimmering walls glowed around him brightly as he used his weaving skills.
It was not restricted at all in the strange space. If anything, he found weaving a lot easier there!
He ignored everything and felt the traces of what the Great One had done before. A weakness in space was still there!
He used all 18 elements to push his harmony to the limit before a massive crack was heard. The Fiend was in shock as a small aperture was opened up exactly where she had opened it before.
Blood and sweat poured down Lind but he succeeded. He saw that both Hei and Zao were dead! They were eviscerated with spears and swords as the avatars looked up in shock.
[GO TO HELL!] A terrifying dragon roar shook the battlefield as cultivators and Fiends looked up in shock as an all too familiar power returned to the 1st layer.
A trap of will. What the Fiend had done was ensnare his will to believe he only had 2 choices. If he truly lost his foundation, he should have become mortal.
It would have been easy to consume his soul at that point but the truth was the Fiend still couldn't take him!
The only reason was because his soul was a danger to the Fiend even via a puppet. It also explained the lack of his ability to attack with a skill basic to any Fiend.
Still, it was too late! His sons had died!
The least he could do is destroy their army! Crystal Tier power slammed into the battlefield.
All the Fiends were killed in an instant as any thrall joined them. The humans, aether children, demons, and aether beasts cheered but a group of women slowly flew over in sadness.
Lind saw them but he focused and confirmed his sons' souls were safe. A dragon made of emerald roared in mourning that cut the cheers short.
His control was slipping but he gathered his sons' souls. The 2 ghostly figures appeared and he looked at his floating wives.
[I can't save their bodies but their souls have been repaired. Do what you can.] The Fiends had damaged the Immortal souls of his sons. He could not save their bodies but he would be damned to let them completely die.
Their vitality was severely cut short but they might be able to live again.
He gently caressed the weeping faces of the spiritual bodies before his conjuring fell apart and the aperture slammed shut.
He collapsed back in the corridor but the shimmer of the walls was now very dim.
The Fiend was hurt but nothing that slowed her down.
"You are truly annoying but your priorities have doomed you." Lind was shaking like a leaf in the wind as he had exhausted his power to do all he had. He had fractured his crystal and his meridians were frayed.
He had wielded power far beyond an Immortal.
"I am not alone. Others will kill you." A snort came from the Fiend as she suddenly had vile Qi cover her fist. Lind felt a shiver in his soul. Oblivion was coming for him.
Lind had no strength but just as the fist closed in, the walls moved!
The Fiend had a look of horror as the walls were hit and shattered like glass. The floor fell away and Lind tumbled into darkness.
"NOOOO!" The scream of the Fiend was not far away but they were both falling. Neither could fly in the current space.
Lind fell away and lost consciousness.
After a time unknown, he slowly opened his eyes and found a strange apparatus in front of him. A flow of spiritual energy was siphoning into a giant sphere inside a black metal cage. The giant metal supports were in all directions as a massive tube extended up into a black void.
Blood surrounded him but he had clearly healed thanks to his own vitality.
Lind felt exhausted but looked for the Fiend. He found her mangled body withered and dead right beneath the sphere. He realized the device had done that to her!
There was no life at all left in her.
He limped over and examined the artifact. It was some kind of Fiend metal but far beyond his ken. He had no doubt the female Fiend had been some kind of refiner.
He examined the artifact until he understood what he was seeing.
"The Fiend souls are ripped apart and used as a filter for the actual spirit of the layer." The Sifter was what the Great One called it.
It was an accurate name as it took natural Qi generated by the layer of the Celestial Fields and fused it with Fiend souls.
The tainted Qi was a side effect as the true effect was to make the layer more consumable for the Realm Refiner.
He noticed the broken connection at the bottom that clearly was to be bonded to the Realm Refiner as well.
It was a rather simple design but that made it exquisite. It also made it harder to break.
Lind had no strength left. He could not summon elixirs from his ring due to the suppression of his Qi. His harmony worked but he had used it up earlier.
"I have to do it again, don't I?" He sighed as he knew what was about to happen. He then paused and looked up. Heaven still felt far away but the connection was still there. "If I don't survive, please let them know I chose this."
A slight tremor in his soul was his only answer but Lind took time to try and stabilize himself as best he could.
He knew he was likely about to die but it was all he could do.
He smirked at all his work going to waste but at least he ruined ⅔ of that damned monster's plans.
He had left enough behind to crush any recovery for millions of years to come.
He was about to leap into the sphere when ghostly figures appeared in front of him.
They were incomplete in their features but some were clearly human and some demons but he was confused.
Who were they?
[...on't..ie]
A faint voice entered his mind but it was so broken up only pieces came to him.
He tried to focus but it was impossible to find the source.
[...lsaf…sa…]
Failsafe? Was that what they were trying to tell him?
He looked around the artifact but nothing stood out to him. The dark metal was smooth and without any sign of an interface. It was not needed if the effect was self sustaining.
Still, he did not ignore a chance to not die.
He used his soul and mind to scan every inch as deeply as he could yet he found nothing. He could only shrug at the figures around him.
"I am sorry but I can't find it. I need to end it. Thank you for trying to save me." He bowed low to them but when he tried to leap again, the figures were able to stop him! He was too weak to overcome them!
The figures slowly turned to the withered corpse and one of the demons entered it.
The dead body flinched before more demons entered it. He wanted to stop them as the risk to their souls was immense but then the eyes shot open.
[Immortal Failsafe. Do not die. Broken shaft.] The body then turned to ash as the souls fell apart.
Lind bowed low and then looked at the broken connection to the Realm Refiner. He found there was a spot he could not scan!
He reached out and an empty space was solid! He pushed his harmony to burn away the Fiend Qi to reveal a box that had been hidden to all his senses!
He carefully felt around it before he heard a click. Lines lit up and it swung open to reveal an anchor for a formation!
He carefully examined it and frowned. The souls were right in that he would not die but he saw that if he removed the flag, it would trigger a self destruct. Death was still coming!
"Well, death by consumption or explosion. Let's go with the explosion." He grasped the anchor and flexed his muscles to rip it out. The metal strained until with a snap, he fell backwards.
The instant he succeeded, power began to run wild fairly quickly. The sphere, once so smooth and pearly white became muddled with black and distorted on the surface.
He had nowhere to go so just let it happen. No matter what, he had succeeded.
[Remember my orders.] He sent his reminder to the Heavens as a crack was his own warning when everything exploded. Darkness closed in and he welcomed the end.
