Chapter 1167 - 1166 - Ripped Apart
Chapter 1167 - 1166 - Ripped Apart
Lind had no time to see the unusual reactions to Adan's changes. The fact he had confirmed Adan was tied to a mysterious being had gone beyond his fears to shock. Only 1 tier of Immortal could exist in the 2nd layer and be above the Crystal Tier.
Radiant Tier!
He had thought all of them were dead or gone thanks to the Corruption but honestly he was being naive. He should have realized such ancient monsters would not bow to death so easily.
Given there was no harm to Adan due to whatever the Radiant Tier was doing to him, it seemed safe to say the arrangement was not like the Fiend's at least.
He pushed all that to the side as pressure built above him to terrifying heights. He had felt it before but it was still different.
It was clearly a progenitor tribulation on top of an Immortal Tier one as well. It was strange even more so in that his dantian was not reacting at all! In fact, his Qi was remarkably unresponsive!
Flashes of blinding light stood out in the black clouds but the power kept building until finally he felt like it was going to fall!
He immediately summoned his scales, Qi, and Laws. He expected an easy start but the lightning ignored his Qi and Laws like they were air!
He had no time to register it as the bolt of lightning slammed into his body. He expected some pain since he failed to mitigate the bolt but instead his flesh nearly exploded! His scales were like paper before it as they shattered and blood burst from every pore!
He stumbled as the first bolt ended.
His draconic healing worked hard to repair the damage but something was wrong. It was like it was impeded.
What was going on?!
He racked his brain but the tribulation was not going to give him time.
He conjured elements to solidify defenses on all fronts. His Qi, at least obeyed him but why was it so calm? It was like it did not recognize the danger to his existence!
Walls of stone and metal quickly rose and he imbued his sigils into them. Hopefully it would go better next time!
Power built up above as blue white lightning flared. Lind barely had time to analyze it before he felt a chill up his spine. The lightning felt wrong!
There were no Laws nor Qi in it at all!
Yet, he felt like it was far more powerful!
"Oh crap." The 2 words were all he said as the next bolt shattered his defenses like it was so many leaves in the wind!
He was slammed into his wards as more scales flew from his body in shreds. His blood flooded the ground like he had a river of it to give!
Why did it have no Laws or Qi? What was that tribulation? Why could it shatter his defenses like they did not exist?!
What kind of power drove the damn things?!
Lind knew his life hung on those answers but he had no time to prepare or even consult tomes on what to do! He had been first trying to determine how to fix his body to face the tribulation!
His mind froze at that moment.
Fix his body? He looked at his bloody form and pushed his Eyes and Touch to the limit. He saw deeper than flesh and bone. He saw down to the very strands of DNA and could see they were being shredded.
The lightning was ripping his body apart at a fundamental level. It was a clear threat to his life but his dantian did not so much as flicker.
The contradiction made it clear his soul was safe so what was he supposed to do?!
At the rate things were going, he would have no body at all!
The time it took to comprehend all that, the third bolt was ready to crash down on him. He turned all his Talents to the limit and tried to perceive all the secrets hidden in the clouds.
Power, unrivaled power, was all he saw in the clouds but shock filled his heart just as the third bolt shattered all his scales completely!
His body felt weak but it still could heal. He used water and light to speed up the healing as another bolt would kill him.
He sped up his mental capacity to the extreme. He needed time! Relatively speaking there was no time but the mind could be sped up to the point that more time could be gained.
The tribulation had no Qi or Laws yet could ignore both. It was also rendering his body a pulpy mess with ease. His draconic strength meant nothing in front of it. He suspected his harmony and soul would have no effect either.
What could he do?!
He wanted his body to improve but it was only being destroyed.
What was the damned point of the tribulation?!
A body cultivator followed a technique that would normally guide them at the tribulation point but he had no technique! He was forging a path all his own!
His eyes went wide at that thought! He acted quickly and prayed he was right. All 18 elements surged into his flesh. Pain seared but it was nothing compared to the lightning.
The fourth bolt slammed into him but he failed. His arms and legs shattered like glass to become a bloody mass of flesh. The elements made no difference!
His body was just being destroyed. Was he going to be killed by the Heavens?
His soul was safe so he would live but he would need a new body. He had no idea how to build it nor how to make it compatible. Worse, it could take thousands of years! He could not fail now!
What could he do?! There had to be something!
Lind looked up at the clouds in confusion. Was he being punished? Was this the result of his desire to incorporate the other elements?
He did not ask as there would be no answer but the 5th bolt was worse than the previous 4 combined.
It was often the break point in any tribulation but he was only further destroyed. His body no longer had the ability to heal. He was just a puddle of blood and broken flesh.
[I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THIS!] He could only speak with his soul and shouted at the clouds. It seemed to anger them further as the 6th bolt built up quickly. It was pure white!
He raged and brought out his harmony with his spiritual power. He had nothing left to lose as his crystal lit up like a sun with all the Qi flowing out of it. His Laws actually improved but he did not spare a thought to it.
His life was on the line! The future of the entire Celestial Fields was on the line! He could not fail here!
The 7th bold had changed colors. It was made of something else and he finally grasped what.
Dao. The tribulation was Dao Lightning!
It was the culmination of Immortals he was facing but why?! Why was the tribulation so damned powerful?!
Why would his body tribulation be so damned powerful?!
He instantly felt a fool at his questions. He was trying to incorporate the 18 elements into his body. It was something that had never been done. Of course he would face the highest level of tribulation!
If had time and prepared, he could have come up with countermeasures but the truth was he was going to lose his body here. He could not save it!
He had been too prideful and too arrogant. He had thought he could defy the Heavens and now it was showing him the cost of his choice. His body was unable to withstand the tribulation and he had no chance to save it.
He was about to give up when a face appeared.
A virulent green pair of eyes in lavender looked at him. A prismatic set of eyes looked at him from pale flesh. All his wives' faces and smiles found him at that moment.
His children, friends, and even those long gone from life appeared.
He had been so fortunate to be loved. He had been cared for and protected by so many all of his life. Even when separated, their hopes and prayers were always with him.
Was he really just going to give up? Was he really just going to accept failure and start over?
How many would die? How many would be used as a sacrifice for the Fiends ambitions? Also, how long would his family be separated from him?
His emerald eyes looked up and he did not care anymore.
The 8th bolt built up and he quickly rebuilt his body with all his skill. Every element was used to speed up the process and pain was but an afterthought.
The lightning was no longer of a single color but all! It was all of existence come to claim his body!
A roar shattered the wards as Lind no longer cared one whit about defending himself. He would face the lightning with everything!
Elements flared alongside his harmony. Spirit and soul fused with it as the lightning completely shattered his body to nothing! Lind Frey's body was destroyed at that moment but he did not die. His soul endured!
An ephemeral dragon raged as the clouds did not scatter. The power of Heaven gathered even more powerful than the Celestial Fields could withstand! The sky cracked with the world groaning.
The final bolt of lightning was coming for his life. He could feel his soul finally shiver in fear but he did not flinch.
[You want me to give in?! Go to Hell!] He defied the Heavens and it answered. The final bolt slammed into his soul and his crystal strained in his dantian. He was about to die but did not shirk from it. He refused to bend.
Lind Frey held on by the bare grasp of his metaphorical fingertips and the world went dim.
