Chapter 1087 - 1086 - Good Samaritan
Chapter 1087 - 1086 - Good Samaritan
Lind pretended to be confused as he approached the 2 men but they quickly brought out rather decent swords. He would estimate they were high grade 5 at least.
The raggedy man had a flame appear on his and the leather armored man had darkness flow over both sword and armor.
It was much harder to see him in some sense but neither realized what they were dealing with. Lind did not see a need to even attempt to block them. He did not want them to waste all that effort after all.
The 2 swords actually put out decent sword intent and complemented each other. They clearly had worked together often.
"Dual Shadow Flame!" The 2 men shouted in unison and Lind calmly walked forward into it. Their eyes widened as their target did nothing at all to defend himself!
The 2 intents combined beautifully and became close to a grade 6 Art. Lind smiled as it slammed into him. Flames tried to consume him as darkness wanted to leech all the Qi from his body.
His crimson robes did not even get ruffled as he calmly walked out of the inferno with nary a scratch!
"So, I don't suppose you will be smart about this?" He smiled at the 2 shocked men who quickly unleashed more attacks.
Sighing, Lind let them tire themselves out but kept an eye on the forces attacking in the distance. The battle was fairly even but slowly tilting in the attackers' favor.
He could not waste anymore time with his own battle.
His eyes shimmered for a moment and the 2 men froze. Their limbs twitched but that was all.
"I do not use this often but I have found cultivators neglect to account for a mental attack until they become Heaven Realms. You should really work on that when you wake up." The 2 men then had their eyes roll backward before they collapsed.
He then moved swiftly to get to the main battle. Blood was in the air but very few had actually died. It seemed they only wanted their target or perhaps it was a kidnapping. Regardless, it was a very restrained affair.
"I suppose I should make this painless then." He gathered air Qi around him then simply sent it all skyward around the attackers. In essence, he made a vacuum for a few moments. It had the desired effect of disrupting their attacks.
That opening was not missed but Lind narrowed his eyes as a few of the defenders did not seem particularly enthusiastic about fighting back suddenly.
"Traitors too. We have the full slots of a political plot here. I have no time for games." Lind would not get entangled with another power so soon after leaving Crescent City behind.
He sighed as he continued to advance and marked out the questionable figures.
The caravan looked at him warily but then were shocked as he easily deflected all aftershocks and attacks that went his way.
"Halt! Stay where you are!" A young man stood up to him but blood was flowing freely down his face and left arm. The sword was chipped heavily but his blue eyes were resolute. His robes did not have any marking but Lind smiled at him.
"Brave, very brave. You should get promoted since you can tell I am far stronger than you but you still stood up to me." The boy had good instincts and used his aura to scan Lind before he got too near them.
The other soldiers that could move prepared to attack but seemed perfectly happy to let the young man die for them.
Lind then summoned flames that flew faster than any could react. Rather than burn, however, they shifted to a blue color from red.
"Interesting, you have demonic artifacts when you are humans. Pray tell, is that good or bad for you all?" The various marked individuals went pale but before they could lash out, their former allies sealed them efficiently.
"S–s–senior, please forgive my insolence!" The young man bowed which surprised Lind a bit more. He then laughed heartily.
"What is your name?" The man looked up surprised but then shivered before he answered.
"I am just a common soldier, Senior. I am unworthy to give my name." Lind narrowed his eyes as he saw a few more finely dressed soldiers nod.
"Your name." His words were firmer and the man flinched but he nodded.
"I am Ian. If it pleases Senior, may we know our benefactor's name?" Lind pondered but then decided to go for something a bit more ambiguous.
"I am just a good Samaritan. I saw you were being ambushed and they attacked me. The rest was at my whim." Ian seemed to be fearful but then Lind raised his hands and a few elixirs appeared.
"You seem to be short of healing supplies. These are no longer of any use to me." They were all grade 5 or lower. He was not technically lying but it was true he personally could not use them.
Ian seemed able to appraise and was shocked at what he saw.
"They are healing and restoration elixirs, take them quickly!" He was surprised the man took none for himself and gave them to the injured that could not move first. He did note a few were ignored until others had recovered first.
"Esteemed Senior, you have great skill and ability. Would you like to join our worthy–" An older man finally came forward but Lind marched right past him to Ian. The man seemed offended but Ian knelt down in fear.
"How did you do that? Tell me." He had been going to explain if they asked but Ian somehow knew what they were without being told. The red and blue vials were not labeled so how did he know?
"Senior, my Talent is Soul Eyes. I can perceive the intent of items with a glance." Lind was surprised. His own Eyes could not do that, or could they?
He concentrated and was stunned to find he could indeed feel intent! He had focused on composition or Qi itself to that point but he easily could see far more than he ever dreamed!
"Interesting. You have taught me something valuable. In return, I shall do something for you." Lind's fingers glowed as a weaving isolated the pair from the rest of the group. Ian was panicking but he smiled at the poor boy.
He examined his dantian and meridians to see they were barely purified despite facing tribulations. It was clear poor pills and techniques were used to get him to the peak of the World Realm.
"Your Eyes are decent but could be more. I will also fix your foundation. If anyone gives you trouble, I will give you a chance to find a new path." It was truly precious what he had been taught and he returned such a gift in kind.
He then touched a finger to the man's forehead. Ian had no chance to stop Lind as information entered his mind. While that was distracted, he used his harmony to purify the man's foundation.
Impurities flooded out of his body!
Once the process was over, Ian's aura was much improved. He was still a World Realm but he could step into the Sky Realm at any moment!
The weaving was dismissed and he noticed the crowd was not exactly friendly. Oz was perfectly safe as the wagon had Law Grade defenses.
The old man was looking amused in fact!
"Senior, why are you wasting time on a wastrel like that?" The previous well dressed man stepped up. He had fine features but his attitude just reeked of idiot on instinct.
"Young Ian revealed something I did not know about my own Talents. It has broadened my horizons and I repaid him in kind." Lind dismissed the idiot but knew Ian would face some harsh issues ahead.
Lind let his aura out briefly which made everyone collapse instantly aside from Ian.
"Well, I have repaid my debt. I would be somewhat annoyed if anything happened to him. He was brave enough to face me with no chance to even hurt me by the way. You should not take such a person for granted." He smiled cheerily as he went to leave but the wagon at the center finally opened.
A well dressed young man stepped out with shoulder length auburn hair and yellow eyes. His finely chiseled features and bright smile rubbed Lind the wrong way on principle.
"Great Senior, since you were able to help that commoner, you should be able to help me. I am on my way to see Duke Petryn, a close friend, so I believe he would take you in under the Fionan Empire." Restraining mocking laughter was very difficult at that moment.
Lind looked around and did not see a single friendly face.
Oz, failing miserably to hide it, was shaking so hard from laughter he might as well have been pointing and mocking at that point.
"I see. Well in that case, I think it is best I take actions into my own hands." Lind smiled as he put a hand on the still recovering Ian. A flare of light blinded all and by the time they could see again, the wagon and Ian were gone!
Lind stumbled a bit as they reappeared farther to the west. Ian was shaking like a leaf on the wind but he smiled down at him.
"Don't worry, I will not abuse you. Do you have any interest in serving Duke Petryn?" Ian's eyes bulged as he shook in fear.
"G–g–great Immortal! I am just a commoner! I cannot serve a Duke!" Lind smiled at him before pressing a jade slip in his hands.
"Just give him or his wife Teegan that. Also, you should have more confidence. You could go much farther." Before the man could say more he vanished entirely. "Hopefully the guards aren't too scared when he shows up at the gates."
Oz was laughing but they spoke no more of it as they continued west. They had a long way to go and no time for more trouble!
