Chapter 1039 - 1038 - Shopkeeper
Chapter 1039 - 1038 - Shopkeeper
Petryn was bored.
He had come to Amber Scale City over 4 years ago but they were no closer to solving the mystery of the place nor finding his older sister. He felt she was nearby but somehow she was still able to hide!
How could she do that?!
Nest and he both had been shocked by the sheer number of Immortals for a new village. They were not survivors of the lost Kun City, but new ones! They were all Sliver Tiers and for some reason did not face the struggle most Immortals did advancing!
They were still centuries from reaching the Shard Tier but they were incredibly young! Not even a century old at all!
Such things had not been seen since before the Corruption.
His silver eyes looked out the veranda from where he ate his lunch over the busy streets. The well made balcony would be expected in a major city but the current one was brand new!
Partially carved into the mountainous terrain and part of it built on top of it!
The cliff looming over it all was the heart of it but only a select few could go there. It did not include his delegation but they were close to it.
There were other powers visiting as well but the Fionan Empire terrified the rest into being very polite.
Lady Teegan had been most gracious about that but she was quite busy as her support staff was limited.
Petryn paused his tea to his lips at the thought of her. She was a gorgeous woman. His heart had frozen the moment he saw her but he knew she had no interest.
She was a dragon but his family would actually be happy with such a bride.
He was not a naive fool or a fresh faced teenager. His mother and tutors had included courting in his lessons but his father was the one that knocked some sense into him about pursuit.
If they were open to feelings, he could try but if there was no spark at all, he could not force his hand.
He could suggest an alliance but he did not want it to be so cold. He was far down the list of heirs so none of his siblings would care what bride he had, but they would worry if he made it an official courtship.
He sighed as he downed the now cold tea. It was still not bad and had the taste of berries still in it to make it passable.
He actually missed his gardens in the noise of the city but narrowed his eyes as he saw something unacceptable.
A young child was panicking looking around and he saw several shady figures closing in on them. He had his sword in hand and was out the open balcony. He tossed a bracelet behind to cover his meal and drinks.
The wind barely whistled before he landed on the first attacker.
They had their hoods pulled low but all 4 looked shocked as a man dropped from the sky in the azure and silver of the Fionan Empire!
"RUN!" The other 3 turned to escape but the crack of lightning slammed into them before they could take a step!
Petryn looked around and saw a demoness and 2 humans escorting a worried man who broke into a run to scoop up his child.
He made sure his target was secure before bowing low to the 3 women.
"I apologize if I became a nuisance." The surprised looks on them annoyed him. Several spoiled men and women had made a bad example but they suffered for it. Still, he was on thin ice or they expected the worst of him all the time.
"Prince Petryn, such honorable acts are never a nuisance. Please." He knew the one named Belia was part of the punishment forces. Her companion Sorcha was in charge of mercantile trade but had teeth as well.
The last one refused to give her name. She only answered to her title of Watch Commander. She had 11 Immortal Demons at her side most of the time in various roles. They were all well educated and incredible in their cultivation foundations.
Who had taught them?
He had thought about that question many times. Men and women in amber colored robes came to take the criminals away.
"Is that kind of issue cropping up more here?" New cities often had either deep corruption or a window of no crime to work in when they were created. The latter was the case for Amber Scale City due to how it was born.
Refugees and grateful survivors from the disaster of Kun City.
Amber Scale City had also become an important front against the expanded actions of the Shandor Syndicate since it overtook Ogros Kingdom.
The Watch Commander narrowed her magenta eyes at him as her lavender skin darkened in clear anger but Belia knocked her in the ribs.
"Do you wish to help us in our time of need, Highness?" Sorcha spoke with clear sarcasm but Petryn did not mind. He closed his eyes and a jade slip appeared in his hand.
"After the civil war, we had to make some changes that could be helpful. In exchange, I would like any you might hear about my sister's whereabouts or safety. I just want to help and find her." He still recalled his Mother weeping when the soul slate reacted.
No one knew why Delenn stayed away now, but he just wanted to have something to tell her.
Belia caught the slip and quickly widened her eyes in surprise. She handed it to the Watch Commander and she too changed from anger to true surprise.
"You love your sister very much?" Sorcha asked the question again but he scratched the back of his head before indicating some privacy was needed. The crowd was staring at them after the action and more as time passed.
The 4 went up the main street until the Watch Commander turned in front of the Trade Quarter. The profound arrays and Qi flow was actually quite a good place to have a private conversation without renting a space out.
They turned until they came to the shops where people could buy things and entered a Forging shop. It had a sinuous shape hanging from the dark wood panel outside. He wondered what the name was but too many new masters were setting up shop in the city.
It was always that way for students and itinerant profession masters took the chance to establish themselves before the guilds could impose their rules.
It was a rather small shop area but he saw stairs leading up to private rooms as well as excellent formations to isolate the work area. It was clear the shop was on the higher end to his experienced eyes.
A broadshoulded woman with her muscles exposed froze as they came in but then smiled.
"You 3 getting up to trouble again?" Petryn nearly stumbled as the usually unflappable Watch Commander blushed and bowed low to her.
"We needed a bit of privacy. I know you are working on several projects so I hope we could use your main floor here?" Belia seemed eager to speak too. Was this shopkeeper a close friend?
He could tell she was a near peak high Crystal Tier or maybe hiding she was a peak Crystal Tier. He could not tell anything else as he could only compare her to his family in that way at his Sun Tier.
"Just don't take too long." The woman had pale green eyes that seemed to look at him deeply. He felt laid bare before her, only confirming his estimate of foundation.
"Prince Petryn, you said you simply wanted to know if your sister was alright or a lead on her location. While we have not been able to find her, we do know she was well the last time we saw her. It was almost a decade ago." He sighed as he already knew that but then froze as the Watch Commander stepped up after Sorcha.
"She is an excellent warrior. You do not need to fear for her. Besides, she is not alone. Our Master is with her." The 2 humans stared at her but then shrugged as Petryn actually looked excited.
"This Maester Cord is your master?" They nodded at him and he actually felt a strain lift from his body. The rumors were true! They had possible leads in Crescent City of him being there recently but not in the last few years had they found a thing about him.
"Thank you all. I will let my family know. My Mother will be happy to have something. She misses my sister dearly. She really wants to hold her again more than anything in this world." He was unsure why he said it but the 3 women suddenly looked at him warmly.
"We wish you luck, Highness." They left him in the shop as he just stared blankly at the wall of goods. It was examples of what they could do and they were very good.
"Delenn, wherever you are, come home for Mother if nothing else." He whispered it and left the shop. If he had waited a few moments, he would have been shocked as the face of the shopkeeper briefly fell away to reveal the very woman he sought!
All 4 had been in the shop and did not know Delenn was in front of them! She had become well known as a reliable Forger in the city. Her goods had saved their lives and further she became friendly to all of them. Crystal Tiers were only in a minority in the city so she was highly respected.
"I have one more person to kill, my new brother, then I will come home for one last bit of revenge." Her face was soft at first but then hardened at the end. She got back to work as she waited for her own news to come from the information brokers.
She would settle all her revenge before going home!
