Chapter 323: The Solid Evidence
Chapter 323: The Solid Evidence
" Well, let’s go back to the beginning. The first evidence shows that Miss Cai left the venue first, hence it gave her ample chance to ambush Young Master Wu Xiao." Jia Hao repeated it, so everyone could hear that.
" However, I heard from Miss Cai that there was a prior fight in the banquet yesterday." Jia Hao crossed his arms.
" So you are saying to me, the person who defeated all those guards in the banquet..." Jia Hao emphasized his sentence, " Went outside, lurked in darkness for hours, and killed them?"
The place remained silent as Jia Hao posed the question. Secretary Chang was about to say something, " But that doesn’t..."
" Yes!" Jia Hao cut him again, " That doesn’t imply anything. So I believe the first argument is very obtuse and off the mark; it won’t help anything regarding the investigation."
" So, let’s go to the next point." Jia Hao didn’t give Secretary Chang a chance to speak at all.
" Let’s talk about the sword marks, which were left on the corpses. You said they were left behind by Cai Family’s sword technique, right?"
" Precisely!" Secretary Chang snorted as he made a gesture. The inspector nodded as three servants carried out a wooden coffin.
In the coffin lay the corpse of a middle aged man, the guard of Wu Xiao. The skin already turned ashen pale, with the blood on the wound dried. One could see the sword marks on his body, the cause of death by a sharp sword.
Jia Hao activated his Sage’s Divine Eyes and glanced at the corpse.
[ Name: Qiao Zhan]
[ Current state: Corpse, approximate time of death, 12 hours ago. Wounds caused by Lightning Flow Sword Technique, and Corrupted Spirit Pike]
A mild frown appeared on Jia Hao’s face, realizing that the wounds indeed were created by Cai Family’s sword technique, which means it would be hard to defend.
But then, what’s the point of a lawyer if they can’t turn white into black? A banana into a knife? A black guy into- Ahem.
Not to mention, he saw something called Corrupted Spirit Pike. Jia Hao was sure it wasn’t any of Cai Yixue’s techniques.
" Say, Miss Yixue, how long have you been practicing the Lightning Flow Sword Technique?" Jia Hao looked at Cai Yixue and asked.
" It’s my fundamental sword technique, and I have been practicing it for over five years." Cai Yixue replied gracefully, " Though I won’t say I have reached the Pinnacle stage of the technique, it’s not that far either."
" Thank you, Miss Cai." Jia Hao smiled at her and then looked at the audience.
" Lightning Flow Sword Technique, as its name suggests, focuses on deadly swiftness. From the moment one draws the sword, its intention is to kill the enemy, not to waste any movements."
" However..." He pointed at the corpse, " One could see the corpse has marks on his shoulder, his thighs, and the right side of his chest, other than the stab in the heart."
Jia Hao mimicked the movement of swinging a sword, " Now, think for a moment. If Miss Cai Yixue wanted to kill Wu Xiao, why would she waste the movement on the guard?"
" The guard isn’t strong at all, so why wouldn’t Miss Cai just cut his head or stab his heart in one go. I am sure Miss Cai’s sword is fast enough to do that."
Secretary Chang was about to say something, but Jia Hao interrupted him again, " Yes, you might think Miss Cai was enjoying the torture, giving slow death to Wu Xiao and the guards."
" But delay in killing creates more variables and uncertainties, and struggle from the opponent, doesn’t it?" Jia Hao looked at Secretary Chang and asked.
" Yes, but what’s the problem with that?" Secretary Chang snorted. " Lady Cai had superior strength. It didn’t matter if she took time with killing, no matter how Young Master Wu struggled."
" But then, struggle would have left some unwanted marks." Jia Hao smiled, " Everyone present at last night’s banquet, can you guys confirm this is the cloth that Lady Yixue wore?"
He rummaged through a bag he had brought and pulled out a cloth. It was the robe Cai Yixue wore in the blanket. The crowd murmured, as many of them nodded at the cloth.
Indeed, this was the dress Cai Yixue wore to the banquet.
" Other than the stain caused by Young Master Wu, one can’t find any blemishes on the cloth." Jia Hao shouted, " Not even a drop of bloodstain."
" So you are telling me, even while fighting with struggling enemies, Lady Cai’s clothes managed to escape from flying blood drops, random sword and claw marks, and remained intact?"
" Or..." Jia Hao chuckled, " Someone else mimicked the Lightning Flow Sword Technique to incriminate Miss Cai?"
" Because I remember there was a theft in the Cai Family estate back then. There are chances someone might have stolen the technique."
" And please, don’t even think of talking about the spiritual attack." Jia Hao sneered, " Though expensive, one can just purchase a talisman and cause a spiritual attack. It’s easier than mimicking a martial art."
" So, does anyone have any solid proof?" Jia Hao slapped his thigh, " Damn, just tell me if there are any eyewitnesses or not? What could be better than that?"
" If not, then all of you are just enjoying the clown show." Jia Hao’s voice turned cold. " How dare you incriminate my wife?"
" This...This..."
Secretary Chang trembled, but was unable to say anything. If spoken plainly, Jia Hao looked like a well built, but disheveled scholar. However, when Secretary Chang looked at him, he felt an ominous pressure.
It’s like a rabbit standing face to face before a tiger. Sure, the tiger is just sleeping, and quite a considerable distance. Yet the fear still made his heart pump faster. One moment, and his neck might be between the jaws of the tiger.
" I... I..."
Secretary Chang kept stuttering as Jia Hao kept glaring at him.
" You? You what, Secretary Chang?" Jia Hao retorted, " Are you going to say anything?"
" Young Master Jia." Li Yuan finally spoke, looking at Jia Hao with cold eyes, " You have remarkably presented your defense."
" As always, Prince Yuan." Jia Hao grinned, " I can’t let my wife fall into someone’s evil scheme, right?"
" But whose evil scheme?" Li Yuan rubbed his chin, " If your proposition is correct, that means someone else is the culprit, right?"
" Then who is that person?" Li Yuan asked Jia Hao. " After all, if we let Miss Cai go, that means we would be empty-handed."
Jia Hao looked at Li Yuan, his gaze turning deep. With some ponder, he smiled, "If a gentleman has courage but neglects justice, he becomes insurgent. If an inferior man has courage but neglects justice, he becomes a thief."
" Justice is the retribution for evil. But if you can’t find evil and instead punish an innocent for it, would it counted as justice?" Jia Hao asked.
" Then justice will only apply if it’s proven." Li Yuan argued, " And right now, other than a few arguments, you have nothing to prove."
Jia Hao stood for a moment before his lips curled. Li Yuan felt an ominous feeling as Jia Hao raised his hand.
" Actually, I do."
The crowd exploded into murmurs as Jia Hao’s voice landed. To think the event would take such a dramatic turn!
" Damn! To think my melon seeds and peanuts are over before the finale! Unprecedented!" A person sighed as he looked at his empty pockets.
" Evidence? You said you have evidence?" Li Yuan raised his brows.
" Indeed." Jia Hao showed his thumb back. " There was one person I would like to interrogate. Ah, look at the time, my friends would be bringing her now."
Suddenly, guards at the door opened it as they found a woman lying outside, hands and legs tied. The woman struggled, her eyes filled with fear.
The guards were stunned as they brought her inside and untied her.
" Dam-Damn it! Where-" The woman shouted, but rooted on her spot with shock when she saw Cai Yixue standing with shackles.
" Mi-Miss Yixue..."
" Hoh? You are here?" Cai Yixue sneered when she saw the woman. " To think the maid abandoned her mistress at the first sight of trouble."
Jia Hao grinned as he clapped his palms, " So, welcome the dear maid of Miss Cai. I only have a few questions to ask."
