Chapter 543 - 527: Eliminate All Impossibilities, Whatever Remains Is...

The female doctor frowned and held the silver needle up to the light for a careful examination.

The silver needle was about three inches long, entirely silver-colored, but there was a very subtle bend at the one-third mark, almost unnoticeable without close inspection.

Even more bizarre was the visible wear on the needle’s tip, as if it had been repeatedly pierced into some hard substance.

"Strange, the wear on this needle is quite severe."

The female doctor reported her findings to Li Hanyu. Li Hanyu froze for a moment, and before she could think further, a sudden commotion erupted from the adjacent VVIP ward.

"De-dead! Shi Wuming is dead! His chest has been cut open, and his heart was taken."

A doctor ran over in a panic, reporting rapidly.

Hong Ya was bored and yawned, then suddenly slapped her forehead, her pigtails bouncing joyfully:

"Oh right! The fake little junior brother went to that ward, he killed that person too!"

Li Bashan belatedly uttered an "um", rubbing Hong Ya’s head with his large hand, complimenting her earnestly:

"Hong Ya is really smart."

Their tone was somewhat cheerful, standing in stark contrast to the oppressive atmosphere in the ward.

Everyone frowned and glanced at them, but no one said anything.

After all, they’d just saved Li Hanyu and Qian Huan’s lives. They couldn’t be blamed for a moment of levity, could they?

VVIPs are the gods of the hospital, so what are those who save the gods?

"To kill to silence."

A thought suddenly flashed in Li Hanyu’s mind,

"Shi Wuming was killed to silence him; he must have seen something at the explosion site, perhaps even the killer."

"So, killing me and Huan’Er was either to quickly close the case or for control of the Second Prison..."

Li Hanyu’s mind raced, different clues and possibilities weaving and colliding inside her head.

As her thoughts churned, her gaze returned to the fish tank.

Qian Huan’s pale body floated in the murky liquid like a soaked corpse, only the faint fluctuation on the monitor proving that a dying soul was still imprisoned within this shell.

A certain maternal ruthlessness emerged in her eyes, as if she had made some major decision.

She suddenly turned to the female doctor, her voice laced with icy shards: "Have the security footage been pulled up?"

The female doctor signaled to someone behind her, and the security chief immediately set off with his team to retrieve the surveillance records.

As it happened, the hospital had initially refrained from installing much surveillance to protect patient privacy.

But ever since Qian Tong’s mysterious death, the VVIP section had been outfitted with a full set of high-definition cameras.

What can be said, they truly are family; Qian Tong’s death dividend was ultimately reaped by his family first.

During the wait, Li Hanyu pulled out her phone, her fingertips hovering over "Wang Xinfa" for half a second before she pressed the call button.

The moment the call connected, the pain and ruthlessness on her face magically vanished, replaced by a look of pitiable panic:

"Xinfa... something’s happened at the hospital again, someone is trying to kill me?!!"

Li Hanyu recounted the incident of the assassination attempt gently, her voice so frail it evoked pity, though her intact left eye was icy cold.

She had already developed a rift with Wang Xinfa, but as long as their superficial relationship remained intact, there was no reason not to utilize his power.

On the other end, Wang Xinfa sat in a large, leather office chair, across from him stood a travel-worn man.

The man had an ordinary appearance, and a large belly like a middle-aged man who had prospered, smiling as he watched the Member of Parliament taking the call, resembling a Maitreya Buddha.

As Wang Xinfa listened to Li Hanyu’s grievances over the phone, his face remained impassive, his fingers habitually tapping lightly on the desk.

When he heard that Qian Huan had been attacked again but miraculously survived, the tapping of his fingers subtly quickened, but his face remained calm, giving no indication if he was disappointed or relieved.

The man across stood quietly, listening to the changing rhythm on the desk with only his ears.

Upon hearing the brief change in rhythm, a cold murderous intent flashed briefly in his narrow, curved smile eyes.

"The Member of Parliament wants him dead, huh—" the man thought to himself quietly.

Wang Xinfa’s voice, however, was full of guilt and self-reproach:

"It was my oversight..... I’ll send my best men to the hospital to protect you all right away, rest assured, I’ll get Li Shang there too..."

On the phone, Wang Xinfa’s attitude towards Li Hanyu was much better than that morning.

He was slightly remorseful for having momentarily lost his composure and gripping Li Hanyu’s wrist tightly in the morning, not out of softness, but because the woman was ultimately not just a pretty face; she was useful.

Li Hanyu, in fact, couldn’t care less about Wang Xinfa sending people for protection, as she couldn’t possibly trust anyone he sent.

Now, the only people she could trust unreservedly were those sent by Feng Mu.

Strangely enough, after the assassination by "Feng Mu," her trust in him shot up to one hundred percent.

She felt there was absolutely no need to investigate Feng Mu any further.

After all, the assassin attacking with a face identical to Feng Mu’s, in a certain sense, cleared Feng Mu of the last suspicion.

The only regret was that the senior brother and sister sent by Feng Mu seemed... well, not unintelligent, but somewhat abnormal.

So, to solve the case and catch the culprit, she still had to rely on Detective Li Shang.

When Hou Wendong received the call, he was initially slightly startled, then immediately called on Li Shang, and they both got into the car, speeding towards the hospital.

Li Shang had no objections; in fact, he had originally intended to go to the hospital to interrogate Shi Wuming.

Sitting in the car, Hou Wendong informed Li Shang of everything that had happened at the hospital in detail.

Li Shang frowned slightly: "Shi Wuming is dead?"

Hou Wendong glanced at him: "You don’t seem surprised?"

Li Shang’s mouth curved slightly:

"Shi Wuming was the only witness at the explosion site; his death only proves that my investigation is on the right track, he must have seen something he shouldn’t have."

Hou Wendong agreed with Li Shang’s assessment: "But now he’s dead."

Li Shang’s expression darkened slightly, but he maintained his detective demeanor, confidently saying:

"It doesn’t matter; sometimes the dead speak ’louder’ than the living..... especially those who were hastily silenced."

Upon reaching the hospital, Li Shang and Hou Wendong headed straight for the VVIP ward.

He first meticulously examined the wound on Shi Wuming’s chest, then repeatedly questioned Li Hanyu about the details of the assassination attempt, and finally replayed the surveillance footage seven times.

Unbeknownst to him, he was gradually piecing together a complete picture.

Li Shang suddenly closed his eyes and took a deep breath; when he opened them again, they were filled with clarity.

"Eliminate all impossibilities....."

Li Shang’s voice was filled with confidence as it resonated in the ward,

"Whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth, but it is certainly the truth of the matter."

Everyone unconsciously held their breath, watching as Li Shang slowly raised three fingers, sneering coldly:

"The assassin who attempted to harm Madam was utterly foolish, having committed at least three fatal errors..."
