Entangled With My Rival CEO

Chapter 78

Chapter 78

Camilla stood up, pulling the sheets away from her body, and approached Alexander with a mix of disbelief and pain in her eyes.

Tears welled up, but she held them back as she confronted him.

"It's not what I think?!" she repeated, her voice filled with bitterness and hurt.

"How can you possibly explain this?" Her voice crackled with anguish and accusation as she raised the phone, its screen illuminating the evidence that had shattered her world.

"This message clearly shows you're planning to divorce me."

"So tell me...What else am I supposed to think, Alexander?" She asked, her voice shaking.

Alexander's guilt-ridden expression deepened as he stared at the device, "You were not supposed to find out about it like this," he whispered.

He reached out to retrieve the phone, but Camilla instinctively backed away, keeping it firmly in her grasp.

Licking his lips nervously, Alexander let out a sigh, his plea filled with a mix of desperation and exhaustion.

"Camilla, please give me back my phone. Let's talk about this in the morning when we're both calmer," he pleaded.

But Camilla's eyes hardened, anger and pain evident in her gaze.

She clenched the phone, refusing to let go.

Shaking her head, she spoke with determination.

"No, Alexander. We are going to talk about this now," she said firmly, her voice tinged with frustration.

Taking a step back, she maintained a distance between them, keeping the phone out of his reach.

"I deserve to know the truth, Alexander," she stated, her voice quivering with emotion.

"After everything we've been through, At least I deserve honesty from you."

Her voice swayed as she continued, her gaze unwavering.

"Why are you planning to divorce me?"

"What did I do wrong? Is it because of losing our baby?" Her voice choked on the last question, the pain evident as she waited for his response.

Alexander stared at her, conflicting emotions flickering across his face.

He looked at her with sorrowful eyes, his heart shattering painfully, he then lowered his eyes, unable to look into her beautiful gray orbs any longer.

He hesitated for a moment, the word escaping his lips as a barely audible whisper. "Yes."

His voice trembled as he struggled to contain the overwhelming emotions threatening to consume him.

And Camilla's breath caught in her throat at his admission as she instinctively took a step back, her face contorting with despair.

Alexander took a deep breath, attempting to steady himself before continuing.

"I couldn't shake off the thought that if you had stayed in the room that night and waited for me as I had asked..." His voice trailed off, his gaze now meeting hers directly.

"...Perhaps our child would still be alive," he confessed, his voice now carrying a mix of conviction and indifference as if a part of him had hardened to shield his resolve from crumbling in front of Camilla.

"That's why I asked Peggy to prepare divorce papers. I never anticipated you finding out this way." He added, his tone a mere whisper.

Camilla's breath hitched as Alexander's words sank in.

And as the pain consumed her, her grip on the phone tightened, her knuckles turning white.

In a swift motion fueled by anger, her free hand shot up and connected with Alexander's cheek, the force of the slap reverberating in the room.

The sudden impact stunned Alexander into silence, his hand instinctively rising to touch his cheek.

Camilla stood there, her chest heaving with raw emotion, her anger and hurt coursing through her veins, demanding to be felt and expressed.

"How dare you!" she cried out, her voice quivering with a mixture of pain and rage.

"Blaming me for the loss of our child? How could you be so heartless to say such a thing?"

Her voice trembled with disbelief as she shook her head, unable to comprehend the depths of his callousness.

Disgust etched itself onto her features, her eyes narrowing with a mixture of disappointment and fury.

Her breathing remained heavy and uneven, the weight of her emotions threatening to overwhelm her.

She cast her gaze downward, her tears blurring her vision.

"God!... I was such a fool to ever trust you!" she exclaimed, her voice laced with dismay.

"To let myself be carried away by your sweet words, care, and all, when in fact, it was only because I was pregnant with your child you showed me that side of you." Her voice cracked, the weight of betrayal heavy in her words.

Her eyes lifted, locking onto his gaze with a mix of defiance and vulnerability.

"And now that I'm no longer pregnant, you can just toss me aside, isn't it?" Her voice quivered with a mix of pain and anger.

She desperately searched his face for any sign of remorse or denial, but his expression remained unreadable, his silence speaks volumes.

Without uttering another word, Camilla nodded, a silent acknowledgment of the truth that had been unveiled.

With deliberate force, she placed the phone on his chest, leaving him to bear the weight of the device.

She turned around, her hand reaching out to grab the robe from the nearby chair,

pulling it tightly around her body in search of solace and security.

As she moved towards the door, she could feel Alexander's gaze piercing through her, his voice cutting through the heavy air like a sharp blade. "Where are you going?"

She paused, taking several seconds to gather her scattered thoughts and summon her wavering courage.

Her voice, though strained, carried a determined resolve.

"Anywhere that you won't be," she replied, her words laced with hurt and determination.

Without casting a backward glance, she walked out into the uncertain abyss that awaited her.

"Camilla!" Alexander's voice rang out as he dropped his phone and the towel from around his neck, hastily donning his robe to chase after her.

The door swung open, driven by his urgency, as he stepped out into the dimly lit corridor.

"Camilla, please wait!" Alexander's voice echoed through the corridor, filled with an urgent plea.

"It's not safe for you to go out alone at this hour."

But Camilla pressed on, unyielding in her resolve.

Her footsteps echoed through the hallway, each one taking her further away from him until she reached the staircase and stopped seeming to be trapped in some kind of spellbound.

Her gaze traveled down the steps, and fragments of that haunting night flashed through her mind, causing her pain to intensify and her head to spin.

Overwhelmed by the surge of emotions, her legs weakened beneath her, threatening to give way.

The world around her seemed to blur and swirl, as she teetered on the edge of consciousness.

She struggled to breathe as her breaths became erratic and labored.

And just as her vision blurred completely, she felt her knees give way, putting her on the brink of tumbling down the stairs.

Acting swiftly, Alexander coming into view, rushed to her side, catching her just in time before she could fall.

"Camilla..." he called out, his voice filled with panic and deep concern.

He held her tightly in his arms, providing a secure and protective embrace.

Sitting at the top of the stairs, he gazed at her unconscious face, and a sigh of relief escaped his lips at her safety.
