Entangled With My Rival CEO

Chapter 45

Chapter 45

Camilla acknowledged Alexander's presence with a polite nod and a reserved smile, meeting his gaze steadily.

"Good morning, Alexander," she said in a measured tone, her voice polite but lacking any warmth or friendliness.

She maintained a cautious distance from him, still feeling uneasy after their last encounter.

"I see you're dressed up and ready to take on the day," she observed, maintaining her gaze on him. "I hope my presence isn't causing any inconvenience to your plans."

Alexander shook his head, his gaze transfixed on her enchanting presence.

"No, not at all," he managed to reply, his voice barely above a whisper.

Seeing her caused a jolt of nervous energy to shoot through his body, causing his palms to sweat and his heart to race.

He was so taken aback by her unexpected presence that he found himself stuttering incoherently, struggling to form a coherent thought.

Despite his jumbled thoughts, he managed to muster the courage to speak. "Hey...so, what brings you around here?" he asked, his voice slightly shaky.

Camilla appeared uneasy and looked around the large living room before focusing her attention back on Alexander.

"I came to talk to you about..." she started, but before she could continue, Alexander interrupted her with an apology.

"I am sorry," he said, taking a deep breath to steady his voice.

"I mean...before you say anything, I want to apologize for what happened at the hospital that day." He paused.

"I felt overwhelmed when the doctor announced your pregnancy. I was still trying to process the news when you told me that you had decided to terminate it, whether I supported it or not. That made me upset," he said.

"So, I called Isabel to talk about it because, frankly, I was frustrated and needed someone to confide in. But I never expected her to tell my mom and everyone else," Alexander explained, wanting to get it all off his chest once and for all.

Camilla listened attentively as Alexander continued, "And for that, I want to apologize for any discomfort that may have caused you and your family."

After Alexander finished his apology, Camilla remained silent, staring straight ahead as if lost in thought.

The lack of response made Alexander's nerves tense up with anticipation, wondering what she was thinking.

He tried to break the awkward silence by saying, "If you don't want to keep the child, I understand. I mean... uh..." His voice trailed off as he struggled to find the right words.

Feeling like he had said too much already, Alexander fell silent, finally deciding to wait for her response.

Camilla's face remained inscrutable for a few moments as she locked eyes with Alexander, her silence causing his nerves to twitch.

Finally, she broke the stillness with a question that hung in the air like a heavy weight, "And what if I want to keep it?"

Alexander's eyebrows shot up in surprise. He hadn't expected that response and stared at her in disbelief. Had he heard her correctly?

"Huh?" he blurted out, still trying to process what she had said.

Camilla let out a deep sigh, sensing Alexander's confusion.

She decided to clarify her question, speaking slowly and deliberately. "If I decided to keep this child, would you want to be the father?" she asked, looking at him intently.

Camilla noticed the expression on Alexander's face and quickly realized that he was still processing her question.

"Look, Alexander," she said, trying to put him at ease.

"These past few months have been tiring for both of us, and I just want us to come to a conclusion on everything. So I'll ask again, would you..."

Before Camilla could finish her sentence, Alexander cut in, interrupting her. "Yes," he said firmly, his voice clear and resolute.

Camilla stopped talking, surprised by his sudden interruption. She looked at him, waiting for him to continue.

"Of course, yes!" Alexander repeated emphatically, feeling a weight lifted off his shoulders.

"I mean, it's only fair. I was the one who..." He trailed off, realizing that the rest of the words weren't necessary.

Camilla smiled softly. "Then I guess there's just one thing left to be settled," she said, pausing to pique Alexander's curiosity.

He looked at her expectantly, wondering what she meant. "What is it?" he asked.

Camilla took a deep breath, looking hesitant as she bit her lower lip.

She took a step closer to Alexander, her voice quiet and almost tentative when she spoke again, "Will you marry me?"

Alexander's mind went blank as shock and disbelief washed over him.

He struggled to process Camilla's unexpected question, as the thought of her proposing to him had never crossed his mind.

His mouth hung open in disbelief as Camilla's question sunk in.

He tried to speak, but his tongue seemed to be tangled up in knots.

After a few failed attempts, he finally managed to blurt out, "Wait, are you proposing to me?"

Camilla rolled her eyes, but there was a hint of amusement in her tone. "Yes, Alexander. I am proposing to you."

Alexander scratched his head, still processing everything. "Well, this is certainly not how I imagined this conversation going."

Camilla raised an eyebrow. "What, did you think I was going to ask you to join a cult or something?"

Nervously, Alexander replied, "No, no, of course not. It's just unexpected, you know?" Of course would love to marry her, but her sudden proposal had caught him off guard.

Hesitantly, he asked, "So, is it like... a contract marriage or the for better or worse kind of marriage?"

She raised an eyebrow and gave him a sharp look. "I'm not up for all those contract marriage bullshit. I'm not looking for a fake marriage."

"I refuse to have a child out of wedlock, and so if we're going to do this, it has to be real," she explained, her voice was firm as she made her stance clear.

"So, will you?" She asked again, more hesitantly this time.

Alexander stood there, still stunned by her proposal, unable to find the words to respond.

Camilla's phone rang, interrupting the silence. She let out a sigh and rummaged through her handbag to retrieve it.

As she checked the caller ID, her face lit up with a smile.

"Buongiorno papà, come stai?(Good morning Dad, how are you?)" she greeted her father, her voice filled with warmth.

But as she listened to her father's response, her expression slowly shifted from joy to worry. "Alright, I'm coming. I'm on my way," she said before hanging up.

Camilla's face was etched with worry as she grabbed her coat from the back of the couch, hastily packing her bag.

Turning to Alexander, she looked scared as she spoke urgently. "I need to go now," she said, her voice trembling with fear.

Alexander could feel his own concern growing as he watched her. "Is everything alright? What happened?" he asked, trying to get a sense of what was going on.

"It's my mom," Camilla explained, her voice quivering. "She had a seizure, she's in the hospital." She said and turned around to leave.

Without hesitation, Alexander stepped forward, reaching out to take her hand.

She looked back at him, confused by his sudden action. "What? Why are you stopping me?" she asked.

"Let me come with you," Alexander said, determination etched on his face.

Camilla looked at him for a moment, considering his offer. "Please," he added, his voice pleading.

After a brief pause, Camilla nodded slightly and without another word, they left the house, headed to the hospital.
