Entangled With My Rival CEO

Chapter 36

Chapter 36

"Doctor Hamilton, you're not giving us any information about her. Is everything alright?" Alexander's voice was tense, his expression etched with worry as he leaned forward.

Alessia, unable to bear the silence any longer, spoke up, "I'm Alessia Kings, the patient's mother. Please, tell us, is she okay?" Her desperation turned her inquiry into a demand.

The elderly doctor finally offered a small smile and let out a sigh of relief, "Your daughter is going to be just fine, ma'am. There's no need to worry."

He paused and turned to Alexander, "We were able to stabilize her, but it was a close call. "She experienced a severe reaction to a food allergen, which triggered anaphylaxis."

"It's a good thing you brought her in when you did, or things could have been much worse." He added with a little smile.

Alessia furrowed her brow in confusion. "I don't understand," she said.

"Are you sure there wasn't a mistake? My daughter doesn't have any food allergies," she questioned Dr. Hamilton.

Dr. Hamilton raised an eyebrow and asked skeptically, "Are you absolutely certain?"

"Yes," Fernando replied on behalf of Alessia.

Dr. Hamilton nodded, acknowledging Fernando's response. "Okay, I'll agree with you if you say so," he said.

"However, it's important to note that conditions like your daughter's can cause sudden changes in the body, including the development of new food allergies, even to foods that she may have previously been able to eat without issue."

As Dr. Hamilton spoke, Alessia's confusion deepened.

"Excuse me, Doctor," she interrupted. "You said my daughter suffered from a severe allergic reaction to something she ate, which caused anap...hyla..."

"Anaphylaxis," Dr. Hamilton corrected.

"Yes, that. What is it?" Alessia asked, her lack of understanding evident.

"Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that can occur in response to a wide range of allergens, such as certain foods, medications, insect stings, or latex," Dr. Hamilton explained.

"The reaction can be sudden and progress quickly, affecting multiple body systems, including the skin, respiratory system, and cardiovascular system."

"In severe cases, anaphylaxis can lead to shock and even death if not treated promptly."

Alessia nodded in understanding, "Sorry, the word was a little confusing to me," she said.

"No worries, ma'am," Dr. Hamilton replied with a reassuring smile.

"So, secondly, you mentioned that certain conditions, like my daughter's, can cause sudden changes in the body that could lead to allergic reactions to foods she's previously eaten without issue. Is that correct?" Alessia asked, seeking confirmation from Dr. Hamilton.

"Yes, that's right," he replied with a nod.

"What types of conditions specifically are we referring to?" Alessia inquired further.

Dr. Hamilton paused for a moment, looked at Alessia, and let out a sigh before speaking. "There are a variety of conditions that can trigger changes in a woman's body, but in this particular case, we are discussing pregnancy..."

Alessia was taken aback by the revelation and struggled to find her words. The news hit her like a ton of bricks.

"Pregnancy?" she managed to utter, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Yes," Dr. Hamilton confirmed, causing the rest of the family to react with surprise.

"So, it wasn't only an allergy after all," Camilla's grandmother remarked thoughtfully and the doctor nodded.

Taking a deep breath, the doctor's voice was low and steady as he spoke, "We will be closely monitoring the patient to ensure her safety and that of the baby."

"Additionally, we will also conduct tests to identify the food that triggered the allergic reaction to prevent any recurrence," the doctor added, his voice trailing off as he waited for a response from the family.

However, the family, including Alexander, remained silent and stunned, struggling to come to terms with the severity of the situation.

He then turned to Alessia, who appeared to be more shocked than the others, and asked, "Are you feeling alright, ma'am?"

Alessia's head was spinning as she tried to make sense of the news.

She nodded slowly and managed to whisper, "I'm going to be a grandma," before turning to look at her husband, her voice shaky with emotion.

Fernando's face was etched with concern. "She's hypertensive, Doctor. I don't think she's okay."

Alessia squeezed Fernando's hand tightly, reassuring him, "No!...I'm fine, Fernando. I promise."

The relief was palpable as Alessia's joy and excitement overtook her fear. "We're going to be grandparents!" she exclaimed, a smile spreading across her face.

"Umm...can we see her now?" Alessia asked, turning to face the doctor with excitement.

"Of course, follow me," the doctor replied, leading the way down the hallway to the room where Camilla was being monitored.

As they entered the room, they saw Camilla lying on the bed with an IV in her arm, her face pale but her breathing steady.

A nurse was monitoring her vital signs and looked up as they entered the room.

Seeing the doctor and the others arriving, the nurse quickly excused herself after finishing what she was meant to do.

Alessia walked over to Camilla's side, taking her hand gently. "How are you feeling?" she asked, her voice soft and concerned.

Camilla managed a weak smile. "I'm okay. Just a little tired."

Fernando stood at the foot of the bed, his eyes fixed on Camilla. "We were so scared," he admitted.

Camilla didn't respond and instead looked around each family member who was equally looking at her with concern.

Her eyes reached Alexander, who stood far off from the whole group and at the entrance, just staring blankly as if lost in thought.

She returned her gaze back to her parents, "Can I please speak to Alexander alone?" she asked, her voice cracking a little.

Alessia's brows frowned at that, and she was about to protest when she heard her mother-in-law speak.

"Come on, Alessia. Let's give them some space. They do need to speak." She said, ushering other family members out of the ward.

Before leaving, she passed a wink at Camilla and flashed Alexander a brief smile.

The silence in the room after everyone had left, leaving just Camilla and Alexander, was palpable.

He took little steps forward to her, simply staring, not able to say a word.
