Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Upon arriving at Alexander's house, Camilla drove through the automatic gate which was opened by the security personnel, as per Alexander's instructions.
She parked her car in the beautiful and spacious compound and was warmly welcomed by Alexander himself, who greeted her with a smile and invited her to follow him.
After traversing through different parts of the house, Camilla and Alexander finally arrived at his grand living room.
Their footsteps echoed through the opulent space as Camilla's eyes darted around in admiration of the lavish surroundings.
The room was adorned with plush carpets that invited her further in, while elegant furniture, expensive-looking vases, ornate chandeliers, and exquisite artwork adorned the walls.
The high ceilings and soft lighting created a cozy and inviting atmosphere that exuded an air of luxury and sophistication, which Camilla couldn't help but admire.
Her heart skipped a beat as she turned to face Alexander, taking in his handsome figure in the soft, gray cotton pajamas that hugged his muscular form in all the right places.
She couldn't help but feel drawn to him, but quickly composed herself, feeling a tinge of embarrassment for having such thoughts.
"You have a lovely home," she said, breaking the awkward silence that had descended upon them but Alexander's nod and small smile did little to dispel the tension in the room.
They stood motionless, locked in an awkward gaze, each waiting for the other to break the silence.
The air felt thick with unease, and Camilla wondered if this visit was a mistake.
As the silence stretched on, Alexander's uneasiness was palpable.
He ran a hand through his tousled hair, a nervous habit that Camilla found endearing.
The gesture sent a tingle of attraction down her spine, and she couldn't help but admire him.
His rugged charm and piercing blue eyes were hard to resist, and Camilla found herself lost in thought, captivated by his presence.
Her mind wandered to the possibilities of what could happen between them, and she felt a surge of desire course through her veins.
Despite her attraction to him, Camilla felt a twinge of embarrassment, realizing that she had been staring at him. She quickly averted her gaze, hoping that he hadn't noticed.
The silence seemed to stretch on forever, until Alexander cleared his throat, breaking the spell.
Camilla breathed a sigh of relief, grateful for the interruption.
"Can I get you something to drink?" Alexander's voice was tentative, and Camilla could sense his nervousness.
She let out a faint smile, considering his offer.
"Umm... yes, water would be fine," she answered after a few seconds of deliberation.
Camilla detected a slight hesitation in Alexander's response to her drink request.
His pause was fleeting, but she could read the uncertainty in his expression before he finally nodded in acknowledgement.
"Alright, I'll go get it while you make yourself comfortable. I'll be right back," he said as he walked away, leaving Camilla standing alone in the middle of the room.
As he disappeared from view, Camilla took the opportunity to explore the living room in more detail.
She noticed a grand piano standing proudly on one side of the room, looking elegant and refined.
Overall, the space felt expensive yet comfortable, reflecting Alexander's impeccable taste.
Alexander finally returned with a glass of water, breaking Camilla's reverie. "Here you go," he said, handing her a glass.
They both took their seats on the sofa, the silence between them stretching out like a taut rope.
After a few minutes of uncomfortable silence, Alexander spoke again. "So umm, do you want to tell me why you're here?"
Camilla took a sip of the water and then a deep breath, looking down at her glass of water and swirling it around in her hand before speaking.
She hesitated for a moment before finally speaking. "Um, I'm sorry," she said softly, her words trailing off as she struggled to find the right way to express herself.
Camilla scratched her neck absentmindedly, considering her options.
"I didn't mean to come across as harsh earlier," she said finally, her eyes still fixed on the glass in her hand.
"It's just that... Well, I was feeling really frustrated and I didn't know how else to say it." She paused again, mustering the courage to look up at Alexander.
"The truth is..." She trailed off, looking up at Alexander.
"...that I'm just really sorry." She finished in a low tone.
Alexander raised an eyebrow, prompting her to explain.
"I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. You seemed like a nice guy and I guess because I wasn't in the right mood earlier I guess I took out my frustration on you."
Alexander cocked his head in confusion. "Do I really come across as a nice guy?" he asked with a hint of amusement.
Camilla met his gaze. "From what I've seen so far, yes," she replied, nodding her head slightly.
"Besides...my intuitions are never wrong." She added grinning cheekily and Alexander's lips twitched upwards in a fond smile at her confident statement.
After a moment of silence, Camilla's playful expression faded, replaced by a more serious one.
"So, do you accept my apology?" she asked, her voice steady as she took a sip of water.
As she swallowed, a strange tingling sensation coursed through her throat, but she tried to ignore it and focus on Alexander's response.
Alexander took his time to think before responding. "Before I answer that, can I ask you one question?" he asked.
Camilla nodded, curious. "Sure, go ahead."
"Why did you feel the need to come all the way here just to apologize to me?" Alexander inquired, his tone serious.
Camilla shifted slightly on the sofa, her gaze dropping to her glass of water for a moment before she responded.
"Because... I wanted to apologize," she said simply, her shoulders shrugging as she tried to hide the nervousness his question had stirred in her.
"I thought I made that clear before," she added, hoping to convey her sincerity.
As she sighed, she spoke up once more in a soft tone. "I guess I just felt like I owed it to you," she explained.
"Leaving things unresolved doesn't sit well with me, and I didn't want to end the night without making things right between us."
As she said that she noticed his frown, and asked after a long pause, "What's the big deal about it anyway?"
Alexander shrugged his broad shoulders and replied casually, "Nothing. I just wanted to be sure you weren't developing some kind of feelings or some sort of soft spot for me, that's all." A hint of playful teasing laced his voice.
Camilla asked incredulously, "You think I came because you thought I had developed feelings for you?"
She let out a short laugh, "Nah, that won't happen," shaking her head
dismissively.
"Besides, we aren't even friends, and that's totally impossible anyways," She added.
Alexander looked at her, feigning surprise. "What do you mean we're not even friends? After all the drama we've been through these past weeks, I thought we were practically best buds!" He grinned cheekily.
Camilla raised an eyebrow, "You mean after all the times you've made me want to pull my hair out?"
Alexander shrugged, "I thought my charming personality would have won you over by now."
Camilla smirked, "Oh, don't worry. You've won me over...as someone I can tolerate being around."
Alexander's grin widened, "Wow, I'm honored to have made it that far!"
After a moment, their smiles began to fade, and Camilla's expression grew more serious.
"Now, do you accept my apology?" Camilla asked, raising an eyebrow and waiting for his reply.
His eyebrows furrowed in deep concentration, and after another second, he mumbled under his breath, "Hmm... Since you asked so nicely..."
But he was interrupted by the ringing of his phone. Taking it out of his pajama pocket, he saw that it was his mother calling.
"Excuse me, I have to take this," he told Camilla, who nodded in acknowledgment.
Alexander answered his phone by pressing the green accept button, and Camilla was left alone in the living room.
As she sat quietly drinking her water, she pondered over his question and wondered if she had really come all the way to his house just to apologize or if she felt something for him.
She tried to convince herself that she was being absurd and ridiculous, but she couldn't focus on anything else.
As the time passed while she waited for him to return, she gradually started feeling uncomfortable, with an itchy throat and other parts of her body.
In an attempt to alleviate her discomfort, Camilla stood up, but it only made her head spin.
She placed a hand on her forehead as the dizziness worsened, and she closed her eyes and breathed heavily.
Suddenly, her vision faded into a black void and when she opened her eyes again, she saw Alexander walking back into the living room, watching her with concern.
"Camilla, are you okay?" he asked as he approached her with a worried expression on his handsome face.
"I don't feel well," she murmured, her voice shaky and uncertain.
"I think I'm going to go home," she attempted to say before collapsing onto the floor, unconscious.
Alexander acted quickly, catching her before she hit the ground and carefully lowering her to the floor.
"Camilla! Wake up!" he called out, his voice filled with desperation as he checked for any signs of breathing.
But all he could detect were faint, shallow breaths.
"Oh God," he muttered, his expression fraught with panic as he held her limp body in his arms.
