Entangled With My Rival CEO

Chapter 24

Chapter 24

"Ladies and Gentlemen, we have reached the conclusion of our art display for today with yet another stunning piece by the owner of our host gallery, Mr. Reynold Becknard. Please join me in welcoming him as he shares his allegorical painting of a woman and provides us with his thoughts behind it."

A round of applause fills the room as Reynold steps up to the stage, eyes shining with pride.

The auctioneer invites Reynold to the center and with a humble smile, Reynold takes a deep breath and speaks, "Thank you all." He quiets the applause.

"This painting embodies the strength and elegance of women everywhere. The depicted woman symbolizes the resilience and perseverance inherent in all women. It's a homage to the inspiring women in my life, particularly my mother and wife."

Reynold pauses, surveying the audience with a warm gaze, lingering on the artwork.

He continues, "Every brushstroke and color was meticulously selected to embody the essence of femininity and the significant impact women have on our lives."

"This painting serves as a reminder to all women that they are strong and capable, no matter the challenges they face. I hope every viewer will be inspired by the beauty and fortitude of the female spirit. Thank you."

The crowd erupts into applause and Reynold nods, bowing before walking off stage.

The auctioneer beams, "Well said, Mr. Becknard. This painting is not just art, but a message to the world. Let's begin bidding at $50,000. Who will offer $50,000 for this stunning piece?"

Camilla, captivated by the painting and its message, raised her paddle, "Fifty thousand." She called out confidently. The room fell silent.

The auctioneer searched the room for other bidders before raising the hammer, "Going once, going twice... $50,000 to..." He paused, waiting for Camilla to give her name.

"Miss Kings," she replied.

"Alright, $50,000 going to Miss Kings," the auctioneer announced, as he raised his hammer to signal the sale.

However, before he could bring it down, a deep voice spoke up from the front row on the left side of the hall, "$70,000."

Camilla turned in her seat, trying to locate the source of the voice.

Her gaze fell upon a man of average height sitting in the front row on the left side of the hall.

He was impeccably dressed in a gray suit that fit his frame flawlessly, emphasizing his wide shoulders and slender waist.

His dark brown hair was styled with precision, and his face was smoothly shaven.

He sat with his legs crossed, wearing a cunning smile as he locked eyes with Camilla.

To Camilla's surprise, the man was John Fraser, her thirty-seventh blind date of the year, which she had previously disregarded.

The auctioneer smiled brightly, "$70,000 from Mr...?" He trailed off, expecting John's name.

"Mr. Fraser," John provided.

"Okay, Mr. Fraser in the front row on the left, do I hear $80,000?" the auctioneer asked.

Feeling the competition, Camilla swiftly raised her paddle, "$80,000."

John elevated his paddle, "$90,000."

Camilla countered with "$100,000."

"Camilla..." Alexander called out anxiously, but she was focused and disregarded his concerns.

The room was filled with the sound of competing paddles as others joined in, but as the price rose, they dropped out, leaving only the two competitors to engage in a bidding war.

The bids kept escalating, until finally, the auctioneer declared, "Going once, going twice...$500,000 going to Mr. Fraser..."

The hall fell silent, everyone waiting for the auctioneer to complete his statement. Suddenly, Camilla raised her paddle,

"$2,000,000," she announced, causing the room to fall into stunned silence at the extravagant amount she had just bid.

The auctioneer, taken aback by the amount, quickly regained his composure and began shouting, "Going once... going twice...$2,000,000 going to Miss Kings in the front row on the right."

The room was filled with tension as the crowd glanced at each other, anticipating someone, perhaps John Fraser who had been competing with her, to make another bid.

However, when no one came forward, the auctioneer yelled, "Sold!"

The crowd burst into applause as Camilla beamed in triumph, while John, who had lost the battle, reclined in his seat with a sour expression.

Approximately thirty minutes later, the auction came to an end and some attendees began to depart while others lingered to engage in small talk with others in the hall.

"Are you going to make the payment for the painting now?" Alexander asked Camilla, gazing at her with a look of admiration in his eyes.

"Of course," Camilla replied with a smile.

"There's no chance I'm letting that artwork slip away," Camilla said firmly. "It spoke to me in a way that no other painting ever has."

"I can see that," Alexander replied, still grinning slightly.

"I must admit, though, the bidding was quite a spectacle. I've never witnessed such a competitive showdown at an auction."

Camilla laughed, "I couldn't let someone like John Fraser come out on top, could I?

Alexander raised his eyebrows, ''Isn't he the son of the owner of that event planning company...Umm... Elevate Celebrations?''

Camilla replied, ''Yeah.''

Alexander exclaimed, ''Wow, I didn't even recognize him until he said his name.''

Camilla nodded, ''He was my blind date a few weeks ago, but I rejected him. It seems like he's still holding a grudge.'

Alexander chuckled, ''Well, I wouldn't worry about it. You got what you wanted and that's what matters. Let's go make that payment and get that painting home.''

Camilla smiled, ''Sounds good to me," The two of them set off to make the payment for the painting.

Upon completion of the payment and receipt of the painting, Harriet and Isabel appeared.

Alexander exclaimed, ''Grandma!...I thought you wouldn't be able to make it," He hugged the elderly lady.

Releasing the hug, Harriet focused her attention on Camilla.

''Sorry dear, I was delayed a bit by some business deals I had to sort out," Harriet explained, smiling warmly.

"I hope you're not mad at me?'' Harriet questioned.

Camilla smiled gently. "I'm not mad, ma'am. If anything, I'm happy you invited me here today."
