Chapter 128
Chapter 128
Camilla remained unconscious, her body rigidly bound to a chair in the dimly lit room.
A black bag covered her head, concealing her features until it was abruptly snatched away.
In the eerie silence, Charles's shoes clicked softly as he paced around her, only to come to a stop right in front of her.
A sickeningly sadistic tone laced his words as he spoke. "We're here, princess. It's time to wake up," he declared, holding her gaze steadily with his hazel eyes.
Minutes stretched on, yet there was no response from Camilla. Growing impatient, Charles decided to take a more forceful approach.
Leaning in, he pressed his lips against hers, his tongue slipping along her bottom lip in a crude act of dominance.
At first, there was no reaction whatsoever, until suddenly her teeth sank into his lower lip, causing him to instinctively pull away, his face contorting in pain.
A humorless chuckle reverberated around the room as he held his injured lip, blood trickling down his chin.
"Feisty, aren't we?" he sneered. "But don't worry, my dear. That was just a taste of what's to come."
With a swift motion, Charles backhanded Camilla across the face, the force of the blow echoing through the room.
Her head whipped to the side, but she otherwise made no movement for a while until she slowly turned her head to face his, looking up at him with drowsy gray eyes.
Camilla's consciousness was suspended in a hazy state, her mind still clouded from the effects of the chloroform that had been forcefully administered to her earlier.
She struggled to regain full awareness, her body feeling heavy as she attempted to orient herself in her unfamiliar surroundings.
Camilla winced as her head throbbed in pain, the effects of the earlier slap still lingering.
Her vision continued to swim in and out of focus, making it difficult to clearly see Charles as he approached her.
Through the haze, she managed to summon the strength to speak, her voice weak and strained. "Where... am I?" she asked, her words barely audible.
Charles crouched down slowly, his face looming closer to hers. His voice dropped to a menacing whisper as he traced along her bruised cheek with his index finger, his touch filled with malice.
"You're in my fortress... Welcome to hell darling." With those ominous words, Charles stood up straight, a triumphant grin plastered across his face.
Camilla blinked, the fog in her mind lifting as her vision began to clear.
Keeping her gaze locked on Charles, she watched as he stood, her focus unwavering.
Her heart pounded heavily in her chest as she registered his words in her brain.
Fear mingled with defiance in her gaze as she finally shifted her attention away from him and took in her surroundings.
The room was barren, the walls made of cold concrete. Dim light bulbs hung from the ceiling, casting eerie shadows across the space.
As the haze lifted from her mind, the memories flooded back to Camilla, piecing together the fragments of the abduction.
She recalled the moment of confusion when she opened the door, only to realize it wasn't Alexander standing there.
The struggle and desperate fight to break free from her captor's grasp.
And then, the darkness enveloping her as she slipped into unconsciousness, the abrupt end to her resistance.
Everything seemed to fall into place now but the reasons for her abduction remained a mystery, but one thing was clear-Charles was the orchestrator of her captivity.
Camilla maintained her steady gaze on Charles, her voice resonating with a combination of curiosity and defiance.
"What do you want from me?" she questioned, her words clear and unwavering.
"Why did you bring me here?" She sought answers, her determination shining through as she refused to succumb to fear or submission.
Charles smirked, a glint of excitement in his eyes as he leaned in closer, his breath tickling Camilla's face. "Oh, princess, I don't want anything from you....but of course your cooperation in the plan I have set."
Camilla's confusion deepened, her fear intensifying as she struggled to comprehend Charles' words.
"My cooperation? What do you mean?" she asked, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and disbelief.
Charles's dark chuckle sent shivers down her spine. His eyes held a twisted delight as he continued, his intent becoming clearer.
"I want revenge against those traitorous individuals who masquerade as my family," he explained, his voice laced with venomous bitterness.
He paused, his gaze drilling into her with an unsettling intensity. "And I also want revenge against a man who took away everything that was rightfully mine."
"Seeing how deeply he cares for you... well, that makes you a perfect target," he finished, a malevolent smirk spreading across his lips.
Camilla's voice trembled as she connected the dots, her words filled with a mix of fear and realization.
"Wait... you... you want to use me as leverage against Alexander?" Her voice quivered, the weight of the situation sinking in.
Charles nodded, a malicious smirk stretching across his face. The full extent of his plan becoming clear.
"Exactly, princess. You're the key to bringing him down. And trust me, I have plans for him. Plans that involve a lot of pain and suffering."
Camilla's heart pounded in her chest, the weight of the situation sinking in.
She had to find a way to escape, to warn Alexander and get herself out of this nightmare. "You'll never get away with this," she spat, her voice filled with defiance.
Charles chuckled again, a cold, hollow sound that sent shivers down Camilla's spine. "Oh, my dear, I already have. And by the time they find you, it'll be too late."
Charles's grin widened, revealing a row of perfectly white teeth, "... That if they ever even find you."
Camilla's mind raced, searching for a solution. She tried to wiggle her arms free from the tight restraints, but they were bound too tightly.
She felt the panic rise within her, but she refused to let it consume her.
"Is this what power feels like to you? Taking people hostage, inflicting pain?" she challenged, her voice steady despite her fear.
Charles's eyes burned with fury, his grip tightening on her arm. "You don't know anything about power," he hissed, his words laced with venom.
He turned his back to her and facing the wall his expression turned slightly vulnerable, resembling that of a little child who had been abandoned.
"In the eyes of the public, I am the beloved grandson of the prestigious Cena family, owners of Cena's Gems and many other esteemed companies," he continued.
"But in reality, I was nothing more than the illegitimate child of my father, who had married Sophia Margot Cena, the eldest member of the family, solely for her wealth."
"My father had devised a cunning plan to marry my mother, the eldest child, in hopes of gaining access to the family's wealth and securing high-ranking positions within the family's companies," he explained.
"He manipulated my mother into believing he was genuinely in love with her. However, his deceitful intentions were not enough to fool my grandmother, Harriet."
Charles's voice trailed off, filled with bitterness and resentment.
Camilla listened intently, her fear momentarily forgotten as Charles opened up about the incident that surrounded his life
"Harriet was perceptive enough to see through his facade and recognize his true intentions - gaining access to the family's wealth," he continued.
"She confronted my mother, urging her to leave him. When my mother refused, Harriet gave her an ultimatum: marry him, and you'll lose your inheritance and positions within the family's businesses."
"My mother and father foolishly believed she was bluffing and proceeded with the marriage against her wishes," he explained, his voice tinged with bitterness.
It wasn't until two years later that they realized Harriet had meant every word she said..." He paused, his expression pensive.
"Especially my father. The only reason he married my mother was for money, not because he actually cared about her. So upon not getting what he wanted, she was worthless."
He moistened his lips, bitterness creeping into his voice as he continued his story. "And so, he took out his frustration and anger on her. He would brutally beat her, showing no mercy or compassion... not even when she was carrying his child."
His face hardened, his gaze fixed on the wall as he spoke sternly.
"Because of his cruel treatment, my mother lost not only her child, but also her ability to conceive again. And you know what he did?" He turned to face Camilla, his eyes blazing with rage.
"He blamed her, just like Alexander blamed you when you lost your child. Then he went on to have an affair with some despicable woman, which resulted in her getting pregnant and unfortunately led to my birth."
"He brought me home, and despite being broken, my mother accepted me as her own, hoping to salvage her marriage with a beast who showed no sign of stopping his maltreatment."
"For years, I watched him abuse her, both physically and emotionally. He would beat her, strangle her, and then forcefully drag her to their room where he would commit unspeakable acts."
His head tilted slightly, his gaze fixed on Camilla before drifting away, lost in haunting memories.
His expression turned sadistic as he brought his hand close to his left eye, rubbing his thumb and index finger together slowly.
"I can still hear her desperate cries for help, begging him to stop. But he never listened. It wasn't until years later when her sister, Clarissa, came to our house and witnessed him in his true colors."
"It was Clarissa who informed my grandmother, who had already disowned her own daughter for marrying a man she didn't approve of," he explained, his gaze locked onto Camilla as a mischievous grin spread across his face.
"You know, Camilla... as I grew older, I often wondered what would have happened if Harriet had been more determined and refused to let her daughter marry a man like my father, no matter the consequences."
"Yes, my mother would have been heartbroken initially, but she would have eventually healed and found love with someone much better."
Camilla listened, her heart aching for the pain he had endured. His words sent a chill down her spine as she tried to comprehend the depth of his emotional trauma.
"And then, I would have been born as the first grandson of the Cena family... or perhaps, if my grandmother hadn't been so cruel as to turn her back on her own daughter, maybe my mother would have been saved... "
"Maybe her child would have been saved. That child would have been me, and I still would have been the first grandson of the prestigious Cena family."
"But...no!" He yelled, his voice reverberating and bouncing off the walls, causing Camilla to flinch.
"It just had to be Alexander... the favorite grandson of the beloved only son," he added, his voice dropping to a chilling calm, his hazel eyes taking on a deranged look.
"Everyone in the family, except for my supposed cousins, knew the truth about my paternity."
"It was meant to remain a secret. But then my aunt Diana, the second child of Harriet and George Cena, revealed it to her own children.
"...And then, my rotten and spoiled cousin, Violet, spread it to the rest of the family during what was supposed to be a joyful family gathering."
"After that, no one took me seriously," he muttered quietly. "They always shunned me, pushed me aside... even Aunt Clarissa, who had saved my mother from my father, once mocked her and flaunted her perfect marriage in her face."
"It was just my mother and me against the world," he continued, bitterness dripping from his words.
"So I worked hard to elevate myself, becoming one of the best tech experts in the entire country, even delving into the realm of skilled hacking."
"I managed to infiltrate the family's businesses by impressing Harriet with my abilities."
"She entrusted me with handling all things technical, believing I would be at their beck and call."
"Little did they know, I took complete control. I tapped into every aspect of their lives - their conversations, calls, messages, bank accounts, even their locations. I had ultimate access."
"That, my dear, is what I call power," Charles snapped his fingers, the sound piercing through the dimly lit room.
Camilla jumped, a shiver running down her spine as a wave of dread washed over her.
"I then went after Violet to teach her a lesson about keeping her mouth shut, causing unfortunate accidents for other family members."
"And then there was Aunt Clarissa... I tried to drive a wedge between her and her husband, and when all other attempts failed,"
"I orchestrated a car accident for him. Unfortunately, he survived... but his luck won't last much longer," he said, a dark chuckle escaping his lips.
Camilla listened intently, her eyes filled with a mix of pity and understanding.
She could feel the palpable pain emanating from Charles, realizing that every experience he had endured had twisted him into the person he had become.
But she couldn't let sympathy cloud her judgment. She knew she had to find a way out of this situation, and she couldn't let Charles's tragic life story manipulate her.
"What happened to your mother was terrible, Charles," she began cautiously, choosing her words carefully. "But hurting innocent people won't erase the pain she and you have endured."
There was a glimmer of contemplation in Charles's eyes as he listened to her words. He seemed momentarily lost in his own thoughts before his expression hardened once more.
"You think you understand, don't you?" he spat, his voice dripping with disdain. "You have no idea what it's like to live with that kind of pain, that kind of anger."
Camilla's heart raced, but she refused to let fear weaken her resolve. "Maybe you're right. Maybe I can't fully comprehend your pain. But this isn't the way to find closure or to heal. Revenge won't bring you happiness or peace."
Charles scoffed, his back still turned to her. "Happiness? Peace? Those are just words people use to justify their weakness. I don't need them. I only need power, to do whatever I please and punish those who have sinned against me."
Camilla took a deep breath, searching for the words that could reach him. "Power doesn't equal fulfillment, Charles. True fulfillment comes from love, from connection, from making a positive impact on the world."
She watched as he slowly turned to face her, curiosity shining in his eyes. "Love? Connection? You think that's what I need right now?"
Camilla nodded, maintaining eye contact with him. "Yes. Holding onto anger and seeking revenge will only poison you further. Opening yourself up to love and connection can bring healing and peace."
Charles's gaze softened as he stared at Camilla, a vulnerability creeping into his voice.
"Years ago, all I wanted was love," he admitted. "I chased after it relentlessly, running mile after mile, hoping to catch up to it."
"But the more I pursued it, the faster it seemed to slip away from my grasp." His voice became softer, carrying an underlying sadness.
His present reaction caused Camilla to believe she had struck a chord within him, appealing to his humanity buried beneath the layers of pain and resentment but his next statement shocked her to the core.
As Charles stared at her with unwavering intensity, tears glistening in his hazel eyes, his words filled the silence.
"...You know, I loved a girl once... her name was Mary," he whispered quietly.
And then, with a disturbing shift in demeanor, he uttered those haunting words: "And I killed her..."His laughter, devoid of sanity and filled with a bone-chilling tone, echoed through the room.
