Chapter 1238: Parting
Chapter 1238: Parting
The group began to make their way back, the quiet canyon now a testament to their victory. The air was still, the beasts having retreated at Lyon’s command.
Lyon caught Lyra’s gaze and gave a reassuring nod. "Don’t worry, Lyra. We’ll make sure everything is under control. You’ve seen what we’re capable of."
Lyra nodded slowly, her respect for Lyon deepening. "I believe it now. You’re truly remarkable, Lyon. I can see why you’re so highly regarded."
"By whom?" Lyon raised his eyebrows in genuine curiosity.
"Yuri," Lyra replied with a smile.
"Hmm...?" Lyon’s eyebrows remained raised, clearly puzzled. Assid then spoke over his shoulder, "It’s the descendant of the Black Kirin Clan, Your Excell— Young master."
"Oh, yes, yes," Lyon said, letting out a slight chuckle. "That guy, man, I did him dirty back then."
"Hmm?" Lyra’s curiosity was piqued, and she smiled in anticipation. "It seems like the rumor is true, then."
"What rumor?" Cecile asked, her interest also captured.
"The day where you’ve gone missing, Yuri was found unconscious on a patch of grass not far from the outskirts," Lyra explained. "You must have something to do with it."
Lumina, now safe in Yoji’s care, watched with a mixture of relief and admiration. The tension that had gripped her heart began to ease as she saw Lyon’s calm and controlled demeanor.
Lyon chuckled again, this time rubbing the back of his neck as he reminisced. "Yeah, I might have played a part in that. He challenged me to a duel, thinking he could take me on."
"And?" Kesya asked, her eyes gleaming with amusement.
"And, well," Lyon shrugged, "I’ll leave that to your imagination."
Lyra slightly pouted but there was a glint in her eyes, a mix of curiosity and admiration. "Lyon, you should come."
"Where?" Lyon asked, his interest piqued.
"There will be a gathering of the six young masters in Sixth Heaven," Lyra explained. "This one is special. We each get to show our prowess to the masses. It’s a huge event."
"If I find the time to get there, I will," Lyon said, glancing at his friends. "With all my friends, of course?"
"Absolutely," Lyra nodded, her smile brightening. "And to make sure you have entry, here, take this."
Lyra handed Lyon an insignia, and his eyes widened at its beauty. The insignia was crafted from a piece of Heartwood, its rich, deep brown hue glowing with an inner warmth that seemed to pulse with life. The Heartwood was carved into the shape of a slender stem, delicate yet sturdy, with a single, perfectly formed leaf at its tip.
The leaf was a vibrant green, its surface shimmering with an enchanting iridescence that caught the light and reflected it in a myriad of colors. Tiny veins were etched into the leaf, so finely detailed that they seemed almost lifelike, as if the leaf could flutter in the wind at any moment.
The stem itself was smooth to the touch, but when held, it radiated a subtle, comforting warmth, as if it recognized and welcomed its bearer. Intricate runes were engraved along the length of the stem, their meanings mysterious but their craftsmanship undeniably masterful. These runes glowed faintly, a soft golden light that ebbed and flowed like a heartbeat, adding to the insignia’s magical aura.
"This insignia," Lyra explained, her voice filled with pride, "is crafted from the same Heartwood as my instrument. It carries the essence of the Harmonia Clan, and it’s impossible to replicate with any other wood. It’s a symbol of honor and authenticity."
Lyon examined the insignia closely, entranced by its enchanting beauty and the sense of ancient power it exuded. "Thank you, Lyra."
Lyra rose, a determined glint in her eyes. "It’s time for me to return to the city and face the king. After all, this whole ordeal revolves around my duty. And frankly, without your help, I wouldn’t have stood a chance."
Lyon sighed, a hint of regret tinging his voice. "Our paths diverge here, Lyra. We both have goals, but this seems to be a fortunate coincidence reaching its end. Unfortunately, I have matters requiring my immediate attention, and I won’t be able to accompany you." Lyra’s shoulders slumped slightly, disappointment flickering across her face. "I see. Well, I will be sure to inform the king of everything that transpired here." Cecile interjected before Lyra could take another step. "Hold on, Lyra. There’s something you should consider. Perhaps you could show Lyon a bit of courtesy and tell the king that it was you who handled the situation." Selena chimed in, her voice laced with mystery, "Trust us, it’s best this way." Maria, her eyes filled with understanding, squeezed Lyra’s hand. "Please, little fairy. Trust us on this." Lyra frowned, her brow furrowed. "But why?" she finally asked, her voice small. "Taking credit for something I didn’t entirely do feels...dishonest." Then after a slight paused Lyra’s eyes whose flickered with confusion, nodded slowly. "Alright, if that’s what you wish." Cecile’s gaze softened slightly. "Thank you, Lyra. It’s important, more than you know." Lyon offered a curt nod. "Our paths may cross again at Sixth Heaven."
"Alright Lyon, what’s the next clue?" Cecile’s gaze lingered on Lyra’s receding figure, her eyes reflecting the curiosity of the group.
Lyon’s eyes narrowed, recalling the ancient words of Yggdrasil. He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Fourth Heaven," he murmured, his voice laden with intrigue. "There’s a rumor about a maze in a lost ruin. Strange occurrences keep happening there, luring many cultivators with promises of treasure. Yet, none have claimed it."
Maria leaned in, her fingers absently tracing the edge of her gown. "Who do you think is behind it?" Her eyes sparkled with curiosity.
Lyon shrugged, the mystery itself igniting a spark in his eyes. "No idea," he said, his tone nonchalant but his posture alert.
Rui, the Moon Hare, materialized beside them, her silver fur shimmering in the light. "Could it be the pig?" she asked, her whiskers twitching with suspicion.
Lyon shook his head decisively, a smirk playing on his lips. "No, he wouldn’t linger in a ruin. He’s got caches of magical items even Paradise envies. If he wanted that treasure, it would’ve been gone by now."
Cecile’s brow furrowed, her fingers tapping rhythmically against her arm as she pondered the information. "A maze in a lost ruin... Sounds like a trap for the greedy and desperate," she mused.
"Indeed," Lyon agreed, a glint of determination in his eyes. His hand clenched into a fist. "Which makes it all the more intriguing. Whatever is inside must be well-guarded or incredibly dangerous."
Kesya’s eyes sparkled with excitement, her body practically vibrating with energy. "Sounds like a challenge. Are we going right away?" She practically bounced on her toes, eager for action.
"Not yet," Lyon replied, his voice steady and calm. He glanced around the group, his gaze lingering on each member. "We need to prepare. Gather information, supplies, and ensure we’re ready for whatever awaits."
Maria tapped her chin thoughtfully, her eyes narrowing in concentration. "Do we have any leads on where exactly in Fourth Heaven this ruin is?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.
Lyon stared off into the distance, his brow furrowing. "There are whispers, but nothing concrete. We’ll need to rely on word of mouth and a bit of luck," he said, his tone thoughtful.
Selena’s confidence radiated from her, her posture straight and unwavering. "We’ll find a way. We always do," she said, her voice filled with unwavering belief.
"Let’s head out then," Lyon’s voice was filled with resolve. He adjusted his stance, his eyes blazing with determination. "Fourth Heaven awaits, and so does the next clue."
As they embarked on their journey, the air buzzed with anticipation. The path to Fourth Heaven was fraught with unknown dangers, but the group’s bond was their greatest strength.
