Chapter 990 - 1029: Can I Visit the Ancestral Hall Again?
When Mabel Quinn resumed filming, even though her makeup had been reapplied, it still couldn’t hide the redness around her eyes.
"Why were you crying in the car earlier?" Kyle Kinston asked.
She thought he must have heard from the assistant, "It’s nothing." She lowered her head.
"Is it really nothing? Or is it that marrying me makes you feel unhappy?" he asked.
"No, I don’t feel unhappy at all." She replied.
"Really?"
"Really."
"Then why do you seem so forced when you smile today?" he asked.
Her body stiffened, and she slowly lifted her head to meet his gaze.
"I looked at the photos from the shoot while you were in the car. You actually couldn’t muster a real smile, could you?" Kyle said.
"I... I just..." She paused, finding it hard to continue.
"Are you only preoccupied with the Conley Family’s matters?" He finished her sentence for her, "Can’t you just forget about it? If you love me, then think of me, and not of other people or matters. Just focus on me!"
He pulled her into his arms, not wanting to see her looking so troubled, as it only made him feel restless. He especially didn’t want her fretting over others’ affairs, and when she was absent-minded in his presence, he would grow anxious, feeling as if he might lose her.
"I... won’t plead for the Conley Family anymore. I’ll do as you say, and let it end here. But I don’t know how long it will take before I can forget it. However... I will try hard, I won’t let this issue affect our relationship." She said softly. She loved him, and she understood where his boundary lay—letting Mr. Conley leave his family and live in solitude was likely his limit.
She never had his experiences, so she didn’t have the right to judge anything. Life probably has too many regrets, and many things aren’t just up to her wishes.
The afternoon shoot didn’t continue. According to Kyle’s suggestion, it was better to rest than to force the session, and to resume when moods were better adjusted.
When they returned to the Kinston residence, Mabel Quinn couldn’t help but ask, "Can I go to the Ancestral Hall?"
"The Ancestral Hall?" Kyle was slightly taken aback.
"I just suddenly want to go and take a look. Of course, if it’s not convenient, that’s fine too." She said, unable to explain why her chaotic emotions suddenly desired to go there, perhaps thinking it would be so tranquil there, as if stepping inside would bring a sense of absolute silence.
He gave her a deep glance, pressed his thin lips slightly, and after a moment said, "Alright, but follow me and don’t wander off."
"Okay, sure." She agreed.
When Mabel Quinn walked into the Ancestral Hall once more, looking at the tablets of the ancestors, she suddenly understood why she so wanted to come here again.
Because when she looked at so many tablets and sensed the passing of life and history, she felt as if she was so insignificantly small, and her troubled heart seemed to calm down naturally.
She still remembered him telling her once that if they died in the future, their tablets would also be placed here.
