Chapter 983 - 1022: I Will Marry You

"Hmm." She responded with some difficulty.

"Then I suppose you’re asking for leniency for Alice Conley again, aren’t you?" he continued to ask.

He seemed to see through her entirely, making her feel like she was completely exposed to him.

"Then you should know it’s useless. You’re asking me to let go of someone who’s responsible for my parents’ death? Yes, he didn’t personally do it, his hands aren’t stained with blood, but the things he’s done have an impact that’s even more hateful than directly stabbing someone. Mabel, do you know what it feels like to want to die but can’t? My father lived like that for 8 years, went mad for 8 years, and finally, when I turned 17, he felt he could finally explain to the Kinston Family, and that’s when he ended his life! When my mother died, my father was just a shell, isn’t that pathetic, isn’t that pitiful?" Kyle Kinston said.

Mabel Quinn was rendered speechless; she knew his father chose to commit suicide after raising him, but each time hearing it from him brought fresh pain to her heart.

"Tell me, how could I possibly forgive Adrian Conley?" Kyle Kinston asked rhetorically.

And she couldn’t argue against even a single word.

His experiences deepened his hatred, and she hadn’t lived through them, so she can’t truly feel how deeply it pains him!

"Alright, let’s not talk about this anymore." Kyle Kinston took Mabel Quinn’s hand and said, "Since Adrian Conley has already left, let’s consider this matter closed. What do you want for dinner?" He changed the subject.

"Anything." She said, although she couldn’t bring herself to eat anything right now.

"Then let’s just find a place to eat." He said, leading her downstairs and into the car.

During dinner, Mabel Quinn was a bit distracted, thinking about Alice Conley’s tearful face, remembering her friend’s sad and desperate expression. Her heart felt twisted and incredibly uncomfortable.

Kyle Kinston watched Mabel Quinn intently. Though she was right in front of him, her mind wasn’t with him at all. Her gaze would pass over him, yet it seemed like she didn’t see him.

For some reason, he suddenly felt a sense of panic, as if he might lose her.

He placed food in her bowl, but she seemed not to notice, just lowered her head, eating mechanically what he gave her.

He placed more, and she ate more, but it looked so robotic.

He pressed his thin lips and suddenly said, "If I insist on not letting Alice Conley’s father go, will you regret it?"

"What?" She suddenly seemed to react, her gaze focusing instantly on his face.

He frowned, the sense of unease growing stronger, "Regret agreeing to marry me back then, will you regret it?" he asked.

Mabel Quinn looked steadily at the man before her, shaking her head, "I won’t regret it, nor do I plan to regret it. I love you, and that’s why I want to marry you. Regarding the Conley Family’s issues, who’s right, who’s wrong, I don’t want to judge, nor do I want it to affect our relationship."

After a pause, she spoke with difficulty, "I... will marry you, and I will speak clearly to Alice. I’m sorry I can’t help her, but... in the future, I think I shouldn’t see Alice much to avoid awkwardness for everyone."
