Chapter 1020 - 1059: I Will Never Let Anything Happen to You

"Uncle, why did you suddenly ask that?" Mabel Quinn said.

"No... nothing." Edward Quinn replied reluctantly, his mind a swirl of complex emotions.

The two got in the car, and as Edward Quinn started the engine, he asked Mabel Quinn, "Where are you headed?"

"Back to the Manor," Mabel replied.

Edward Quinn drove the car towards the Manor, yet during the drive, he couldn’t help but glance at Mabel Quinn from time to time. Even Mabel could sense Edward’s odd behavior.

"Uncle, is there something on my face?" she asked, unable to hold back.

"No... nothing," Edward quickly answered. "It’s just that Uncle hasn’t seen you for some time, and he misses you."

Edward’s words warmed Mabel’s heart, knowing at least one elder cared about her. "I miss you too, Uncle."

"Mabel, if I were to say... to say..." How could he tell her? To say he was her father, to confess she was lost because of his mistake. How could he gain her forgiveness and recognition?

At this moment, various thoughts flashed through Edward’s mind.

"Say what?" Mabel was puzzled.

Suddenly, Edward’s expression changed, his face turning ashen. He tried to press the brake, but it wasn’t responding. They were now on the highway, and the car was speeding at 70 miles per hour.

Were the brakes broken?! His car underwent regular checks and shouldn’t have had such failures, or had someone intentionally tampered with it?!

Now, the worst part was, Mabel was in the car with him!

At this moment, Edward deeply regretted his decision. If he hadn’t insisted on dropping her off, she wouldn’t have been dragged into this.

"Uncle, did you take the wrong exit? You should have gone that way," Mabel suddenly said, then noticed Edward’s grim face, "What’s wrong, Uncle?"

"Mabel, the brakes failed. Now..." Edward didn’t finish his sentence, but it was enough for Mabel to grasp the dire situation.

Even though Uncle momentarily opted for a more open route because of the brake failure, there were still cars parked ahead, and their car couldn’t stop, making avoidance impossible.

Mabel felt icy cold all over, watching helplessly as the car’s front was about to crash into the rear of another vehicle.

At that instant, Edward sharply turned the steering wheel, causing the car to swerve sideways, crashing his side of the vehicle towards the front row of cars.

This was his choice. Now, perhaps by doing this, he could still protect Mabel, protect his daughter.

If Clover knew, she would surely agree with his decision, wouldn’t she? Their daughter, whom he’d failed to protect before, now he would protect.

If dying like this meant he could see Clover again, he’d willingly kneel before her, pleading for forgiveness.

Too many mistakes made, too many regrets held.

But this time..."Mabel, I will make sure you don’t get hurt," he said.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Mabel was stunned upon hearing this. Then came the impact, causing the airbag inside the car to deploy, and the violent force made her lose consciousness.
