Chapter 737 42: The Dragon Arrives
Chapter 737 42: The Dragon Arrives
Losa exchanged a glance with Viviana, both seeing a hint of solemnity in each other's eyes.
This sound clearly came from a giant dragon.
And obviously not from their old adversary, the Three-headed Demon Dragon.
"Have Orhan from Fountain Gate meet me at the command post in the central section of the wall."
Losa ordered and quickly rushed towards the stables. Augusta Square was on the easternmost side of Constantinople, and he needed to reach the westernmost Theodosius Wall in the shortest time possible.
"Wait, I'll take you there."
Immediately, a somewhat warm hand grasped Losa's hand.
Following that.
A white Spirit Candle lit up, seemingly stealing all the surrounding light, and their figures were swallowed by the darkness.
A moment later.
When Losa opened his eyes again, there was emptiness beneath his feet.
Behind him, a swaying golden candlestick gleamed brightly in the wind.
He landed steadily on the ground, looking at Viviana with some surprise.
Space Magic wasn't an ability one could easily master, even as strong as Anna, a Half-Step Legendary Perfection caster entrenched in the entire Constantinople library, hadn't managed to enter the realm of Space Magic.
Demon Warriors, frankly, were warriors who used Magic Power in combat. In terms of magic, they were incompetent. If they truly had such a talent, why not become a Mage?
"Truly astounding power."
The Candle Knight lifted her skirt slightly, curtsying a bit: "Your praise makes me blush."
Though she said she was blushing, those words were mere politeness.
When it came to talent, she had heard enough compliments.
Losa walked out of the tower, looking at the distant camp, where two enormous creatures were confronting each other, and sneered: "It seems our Emperor Mahmud II has brought in a new dragon, though it's unknown whether it will backfire on him."
He was somewhat familiar with the Osmanoglu Family's so-called Dragon Taming Bloodline.
After all, with Orhan, a direct bloodline of the Ottoman Family, at his side, Losa couldn't help but learn a bit about Mahmud II, his greatest adversary so far.
Losa wasn't too worried; unless the Dragon Slayer Crossbow was used, Mahmud II wouldn't risk going to battle, and even after Dragon Transformation, Losa couldn't storm into the Ottoman camp and kill Mahmud II single-handedly.
It's hard to say if a new dragon would be a blessing or a curse.
Comparatively, the Candle Knight was evidently not as optimistic as the Emperor: "Captain, if both enemy dragons attack simultaneously, can you stop one with the Dragon Slayer Crossbow?"
Both giant dragon auras were very strong, and managing either was rather difficult. It was unclear what else this mysterious captain still had up his sleeve.
"Of course, no problem."
The Emperor's tone was filled with confidence, calmly directing the soldiers to their positions and setting up defenses. The initially panicked people, seeing his calm demeanor, quickly snapped out of their anxiety.
...
At this time, within the Ottoman camp.
The furious Copper-Horned Red Dragon was staring down at a small human in front of it, even ignoring the towering giant shadow over a hundred meters tall.
"Descendant of Mahmud I, you've deceived me."
The copper horns, originally brass in color, had turned red as red lightning flashed. Flames with the scent of sulfur emitted from its mouth and nose, signifying its attack stance. Even the body of the Three-headed Demon Dragon tensed up.
Though weaker compared to this exotic Demon Dragon, the Copper-Horned Red Dragon excelled in close combat, posing a challenge even for it at this short range.
Mahmud II suppressed his fear, pushed aside the guards surrounding him, and stepped forward to face the giant dragon: "Please calm down, Red Lightning, we've prepared special blood offerings for you."
The Three-headed Demon Dragon anxiously extended its three heads, vigilantly observing its kind in front of it.
The Copper-Horned Red Dragon's gaze swept over the cattle and sheep shivering under its dragon might, and its anger slightly subsided.
"Do you think a few mere blood offerings can make me forgive your betrayal?"
Mahmud II smirked internally. If not for the ancestral texts accurately recording the Copper-Horned Fire Dragon's gluttonous nature, how could he have risked deceiving it like this?
"Mister Red Dragon, do you remember me? I visited you with my father, Murad II."
"Descendant of Mahmud I, you once sought my approval, but your underhanded tricks have completely destroyed my trust in you. Besides, according to the agreement, you have long signed a contract with this mixture... exotic kin."
The Red Lightning, slowly recovering from its anger, appeared increasingly suspicious.
Mahmud II pointed towards the distant Constantinople: "Red Dragon, as long as you agree to conquer that city for me, I will release you from the contract with our family in the name of the Osmanoglu Family and grant you your freedom."
Freedom?
A hint of mockery, surprisingly human, flashed across the Red Dragon's face.
To be honest, Red Lightning didn't feel the slightest bit unfree.
After all, it could come and go from the Dragon Garden as it pleased. When hungry, "servants" delivered delicious blood offerings, and within the Dragon Garden, all others respected it. Giving up such a pleasant life to return to barren, dull mountains was utterly foolish.
"I've never borne shackles, so why speak of granting me freedom?"
The Copper-Horned Red Dragon's cold eyes swept over Mahmud II, finally resting on the Three-headed Demon Dragon before it, a hybrid giant dragon whose appearance was hideously grotesque to the Red Dragon.
Yet its aura made the Copper-Horned Red Dragon feel uneasy; instinct told it that if conflict arose, it might very well fall to this three-headed hybrid.
Mahmud II paused, then said, "No worries, whatever you wish to ask, feel free to do so."
The Copper-Horned Red Dragon wanted to refuse with a smirk but seemed to think of something, falling into contemplation.
"Descendant of Mahmud I, with my noble dragon bloodline, I deserve a heritage. But your Dragon Garden is filled with low- and mid-blooded mongrels, all unworthy of bearing my legitimate offspring."
As it spoke, white mist spewed from its nostrils.
Mahmud II felt a darkness before his eyes, somewhat incredulously asking, "So, you want me to find you a wife?"
He had considered that the greedy, gluttonous dragon would demand vast treasures, gold, silver, and meat, but never imagined it wanting a mate, meaning he'd have to catch a high-class giant dragon for it, likely a female.
He instinctively glanced at his companion behind him.
Before he could speak, the Copper-Horned Red Dragon snorted softly; though the Three-headed Demon Dragon's strength and bloodline were enough, it was simply too ugly.
Mahmud II knew this was a bad idea and pretended calmness, patting his companion's scale armor and seriously saying, "It's fine, I agree to your request. As long as you help me capture this human city, I will find you a worthy mate."
This deal wasn't a loss; the future dragon offspring could also be used for contracts by his descendants.
Prior Ottoman rulers had considered raising dragon companions from youth, ensuring each royal descendant could gain dragon approval.
However, since the return period was too long and most youthful dragons' combat abilities were mediocre, the plan was shelved.
Besides, whether he would have to fulfill this deal was still uncertain. The unsettling Constantinople for both him and the Three-headed Demon Dragon was not easily conquered.
