Chapter 449 - 182 First Encounter_2

Jing Huan followed suit and called Miss Wen.

Wen Wan didn’t have a great impression of him. In her memory, he was always trailing behind Yu Ruohuan like a super devoted admirer, beyond what even a sycophant could achieve. So, she merely acknowledged him perfunctorily before linking arms with Yu Ruohuan, chatting intimately.

This wasn’t the ideal moment for Jing Huan to stick too close; he lagged behind by a step, walking side-by-side with Jing Zhan.

Jing Zhan, feeling a bit tired, raised his sore arms and stretched them. He glanced at Jing Huan beside him and handed over his backpack: "Why don’t you carry this for your goddess?"

Without a second thought, Jing Huan took the backpack and hugged it like a treasure.

Jing Zhan secretly rolled his eyes. If there were a championship for being a devoted admirer, Jing Huan would definitely take first place.

Looking at the two figures walking ahead, Jing Zhan leaned closer to Jing Huan and lowered his voice. "You do know your goddess is set to marry into the Wen family, right? I suggest you rein it in a little before you get in too deep."

Jing Huan responded, "I know."

Jing Zhan glanced at him sideways.

The boy’s gaze rested deeply on the violet-clad silhouette ahead, his eyes brimming with ardent affection.

"No one in the entire Hua Country is worthy of her. In terms of status, the Wen family barely meets the mark. As for me, as long as I can see her often and ensure her happiness, I’ll be satisfied."

Jing Zhan let out a cold laugh. "Why don’t you just admit you’re a toad coveting swan meat? Stop pretending to be so magnanimous or romantic."

"What about your dear Runxi?"

"Mother would never agree. The Liu family is far too low-class."

Jing Huan struck him right in the tender spot.

Jing Zhan shot back irritably, "What’s wrong with the Liu family? In Jingzhou, they’re doing well enough. Besides, Runxi is so bright—he’ll definitely surpass you in the future. What gives you the right to criticize the Liu family?"

"Aside from the Yu, Wen, Gu, and Leng families, don’t even bother entertaining other options."

Before Jing Zhan’s face could change, Jing Huan lowered his voice and said, "By the way, I’ve heard that Gu Bichen is attending this winter camp too. You should seize the opportunity—I think you’ve got a shot."

"Scram."

"Speaking of Gu Bichen, isn’t he in the same class as your Runxi now? I just don’t get it. Is there something wrong with Gu Bichen’s head? Why would he leave prosperous Jingzhou to go to the backward Qingzhou? Even if the school there is good, it’s nowhere close to Jingzhou’s De Ren High School."

"How would I know? If you’re so bold, why don’t you ask Gu Bichen yourself when you see him? See if he even bothers to answer you."

As Jing Zhan walked, he scanned the surrounding students, looking for a familiar figure.

The opening ceremony was held in a grand theater. The Qingzhou delegation, which Shen You’an belonged to, was seated in the southwest section of the audience area. Simultaneously, teams were entering the four gates of the theater in an orderly fashion and taking their assigned seats.

Shen You’an sat at the westernmost edge of the audience section. To his left were Gao Yuyue, followed by Yan Lu, then Liu Runxi and Gu Bichen.

"Excuse me." A voice behind them sounded, cautious yet tinged with excitement.

Shen You’an remained unmoved, but Gao Yuyue immediately turned her head, brimming with excitement. "Were you calling me?"

The boy froze briefly but then quickly smiled and asked, "Are you students from Lanya High School?"

Since they weren’t wearing uniforms, Gao Yuyue was curious about how he figured it out.

The boy glanced toward Meng Junzhu. "Mr. Meng used to teach me. Later, I heard he moved to Qingzhou’s Lanya High School. He’s a great teacher, and seeing him here makes me really happy."

Gao Yuyue beamed. "You’re from Jingzhou?"

The boy nodded, though his gaze couldn’t help but drift toward Shen You’an. "This classmate here must be the legendary Shen You’an of Lanya High School, right?"

Gao Yuyue’s eyes lit up. "Even when he’s covering up this much, you still managed to recognize him?"

The boy smiled shyly, stealing another glance at Shen You’an. "Well, during the school’s poll for the campus flower, I secretly cast a vote."

Gao Yuyue was delighted. "You even made an account on our school’s forum?"

"It was pretty simple, just writing a bit of code."

Gao Yuyue gave him a thumbs-up. "Impressive. What’s your name?"

The boy had a delicate appearance, with two small dimples when he smiled—quite adorable, really.

"I’m Cheng Xuyuan. Cheng as in programmer, Xu as in sunrise, Yuan as in treasure."

Gao Yuyue was amused by his name. "Your destiny as a programmer is clearly sealed."

The boy was genuinely likable; his straightforwardness wasn’t annoying at all. Gao Yuyue pulled out her phone.

"Let’s add each other on WeChat."

Cheng Xuyuan was utterly thrilled, fumbling to take out his phone and present his QR code.

The two successfully exchanged WeChat contacts. Cheng Xuyuan nervously stole a look at Shen You’an. "Could I... could I maybe..."

"No," Gao Yuyue cut off his fantasy decisively.
