Chapter 1022 - 507: The Last Glory (Part 2)
She talked solely about interests, without touching other subjects, which indeed struck Lady Jing’s heart.
Lady Jing gritted her teeth and said, "Then find another chance."
As they approached, Leng Yan arrived with Leng Yunyang.
Seeing Leng Yunyang, Lady Jing’s eyes lit up again.
His appearance wasn’t inferior to Liu Runxi’s. However, those captivating eyes suggested he wasn’t a restrained person, and although the Leng family had wealth and influence, it still fell short compared to the Liu family.
"How has Old Sir Leng been lately?"
Leng Yan smiled gently, resembling an amiable old man: "Just yesterday, he went hiking with his grandson; you tell me if an old man like him is healthy."
Lady Jing’s eyes showed envy: "It is rumored the Leng family has a secret longevity recipe. If Old Sir Leng is willing to share it, I am willing to pay any price."
Leng Yan laughed and waved his hand: "What longevity recipe? It’s all hearsay. The wellness methods left by our ancestors can be easily found online; it just depends whether you can endure the process."
Saying this, he hummed a tune as he walked inside.
Lady Jing pursed her lips, who didn’t know the Leng family had the miraculous Nine Revitalizing Soul Pills and countless other secret recipes and remedies, yet outsiders weren’t blessed to acquire them.
She glanced at Jing Huan, with a thoughtful look in her eyes.
Leng Yan walked into Dechang Building with his hands behind his back, "Wow, the Yu family really spent lavishly this time."
There was a place to sign at the entrance. Leng Yunyang went over to sign on behalf of Leng Yan and handed over the gift money.
A server would lead guests to the designated seats.
The difference between upstairs and downstairs was like a chasm; only those with the highest status and close ties to the Yu family could go upstairs. Although the Leng family was one of the four great families, businessmen were always at the bottom tier. Last time, there was some unpleasantness with Yu Ruohuan, so Leng Yan came prepared to sit on the sidelines.
Surprisingly, the server led them upstairs.
Leng Yan muttered, "The Yu family must still be eyeing my Nine Revitalizing Soul Pills."
Leng Yunyang sneered, "An innocent man gets into trouble because of his wealth; do you think the Yu family would leave you alone?"
Leng Yan clicked his tongue: "I heard that Yu family’s girl was very sick, probably about to make a move. Don’t act like you’re just watching the show; do you think you can escape?"
Leng Yunyang said irritably, "That’s why I said just send the gift money; why bother with this clamor?"
"You don’t understand." Leng Yan, looking very secretive, lowered his voice: "Mr. Amos instructed, today’s definitely a show to watch, let’s just treat it as watching a performance."
"Amos, Amos all the time, he’s a foreigner, what’s he planning?"
Leng Yunyang got annoyed every time Leng Yan mentioned Amos.
Leng Yan and his grandson sat at a table with Helian Yu and his mother, while Liu Runxi, seeing his old classmate Leng Yunyang, acted as if they weren’t familiar.
Leng Yunyang grabbed a handful of sunflower seeds from the table, turned his back to it, leaned against the railing, and looked downstairs.
The place was filled with guests, a sea of finery, and just looking at the beauties was overwhelming.
While munching on the seeds, Leng Yunyang glanced sideways at Liu Runxi, who was quietly sitting across and reading a book, and couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
"I really admire you, attending a banquet with a book, afraid that others won’t recognize you’re a top student."
Liu Runxi held the teacup with one hand, took a sip, his upright and elegant demeanor eye-catching.
He treated Leng Yunyang’s words like passing wind, utterly unaffected, his gaze dropped back to his book.
Leng Yan looked over Liu Runxi, then at his own grandson, who was standing ungracefully with a charming face, clicking his tongue as he shook his head, praising to Helian Yu: "Mrs. Liu, I truly want to learn from you, how you raised such an outstanding and disciplined child, I’d like some pointers."
Helian Yu was pleased to hear praise for her son, speaking proudly: "Xixi has never required me to worry since young, some things are innate."
Lady Jing’s family was arranged on the first floor, looking upset, but there was no choice; upstairs, nobody could be offended.
Next, Mrs. Wen arrived upstairs with her two children, Wen Wan and Wen Yu.
Yan Lu followed beside Yan Xue: "Aunt, isn’t there trouble at the Yu family? Why is there still so much support?"
She still vividly remembers the commotion at Old Madam Yu’s funeral a few months ago.
Over the past half year, the Yu family had been stormed by public opinion, especially with Sang Kunrou’s old case being retried, pushing the Yu family to the forefront once again.
Unfortunately, despite so much time passing, Sang Kunrou’s case had yet to show any progress. It seems overturning the verdict would be hard; understandably, with time, evidence and witnesses have vanished, becoming hard to trace.
By this time, most guests had arrived, and Dechang Building was bustling, filled with well-known figures.
"Even at a downturn, an old ship still has nails," Yan Xue remarked lightly, mocking.
But such grandeur may not last long; today might be the last glory.
Knowing some insider details, Yan Xue looked around the bustling building, her eyes showing a bit of sigh.
Seeing the high building rise, seeing it host guests.
Yet the collapse is near.
Yan Xue followed the server to her seat, where Yan Lu spotted a familiar face.
Jiang Yumo smiled at Yan Lu and greeted, "Didn’t expect to see you here."
Yan Lu sat beside Jiang Yumo, "I tagged along with my aunt’s invitation to join the fun."
Jiang Yumo glanced at Yan Xue across, talking with his mother, impressed: "So, Madam Yan Xue is your aunt. She’s a charitable celebrity; I’ve watched many of her interviews."
Suddenly something hit Yan Lu’s head, instinctively covering it as she looked up, right into Leng Yunyang’s provoking smile.
Yan Lu glared at him fiercely: "That damn thing, makes me furious. I just did my hairstyle."
Jiang Yumo smiled, helping her pick peanut shells out of her hair, "He loves to play; the more you fuss, the more he’ll act up. Ignore him, and he’ll soon lose interest and move on."
Yan Lu glanced at her: "Sounds like you know him well."
Jiang Yumo paused, pursed her lips and said nothing.
At this moment, Wei Zhuhua and Mei Qingdai entered holding a child.
The main hosts arrived, and everyone stood up to greet.
Wei Zhuhua waved with a smile: "Don’t be formal, today’s a happy day for the Yu family, let’s all enjoy ourselves."
Mei Qingdai, having had a comfortable confinement, regained much vitality, her figure still slim, unchanged from before childbirth.
She held the swaddled child like a trophy, her eyes proud and pleased.
Everyone congratulated her.
Indeed, it’s worthy of pride, with the Yu family finally having the long-awaited grandson, akin to inheriting a "throne," this child ensures Mei Qingdai a lifetime of fortune.
Following Mei Qingdai was Yu Ruohuan, heavily made up to conceal her sickly look, yet her makeup was overdone, her eerie eyes appeared menacing.
Yan Lu hadn’t seen Yu Ruohuan in a long time, and was shocked at her ghostly appearance.
"How did she turn into this?"
While the familiar boy beside Yu Ruohuan.
Yan Lu pursed her lips: "He’s inseparable with Yu Ruohuan, they are a perfect pair, they should stick together and spare others."
Gu Bichen now disregarded the Gu family’s reputation, constantly mingling with Yu Ruohuan, though Gu Chengzhao and his wife still showed no respect to the Yu family and didn’t attend the banquet.
The Xiang family also didn’t come, not even pretending, they had completely broken off.
