Chapter 572: The God of Storms.
Chapter 572: The God of Storms.
From Zoraa’s perspective, all that chaos, destruction, and death around her came to an... abrupt halt. For a moment, it felt like time itself had stopped.
Just a few instances ago, she was sleeping in her cave, she sensed the shaking, saw the light explosion, heard the screams, came out, and decided to fight the enemy who attacked them—
From then on—
It was all blurry.
And when she finally regained her senses—
She was captured.
The strange collar on her neck made it impossible for her to access her Sanctuary. Now, while her men, for some odd reason, were fighting each other, she was being taken away by the enemy.
And the worst part?
There was nothing she could do about it.
Even now, the enemy had his sword on her neck and, from his eyes, it was clear he would use it the moment she did something.
For now—
She could only hope other Chiefs came in time and helped her.
And maybe it was the God of Storm looking out for her—
That was exactly what happened.
The moment Kael grabbed her and returned to Igni, prepared to leave, four other Stormcaller Chiefs, along with sixty Stormcaller Warriors, appeared right in front of him.
Zoraa smiled at that sight, her eyes shining brightly.
The enemy was surrounded; it was impossible for even him to win this battle.
It was over.
And—
And if they were fortunate, they might even use this moment to capture him.
With the Flying Man captured, the Stonefangs and the Velmourns would fall on their own. The battle would be won without needing other tribes, and they would be rewarded.
Zoraa already imagined everything in her head. The more she thought, the wider her grin became, and with that same grin, she turned towards Kael, to see his reaction, to... gloat. In her mind, she was also preparing for a situation where she was going to be used as a hostage and ways to get out of that situation.
But the moment she turned and her eyes fell on Kael—
Her expression changed and her thoughts... froze.
Because Kael didn’t seem like a man who was cornered or surrounded. Heck, he didn’t even look like he was surprised by the sudden arrival of their forces. It was as if... he was already expecting it.
’What he do...?’
Zoraa thought inwardly, her heart felt tense for a moment.
Was he really thinking of using her as a hostage?
That thought did come into her mind, but the thing was...
With a situation as tense as this, she doubted her life would matter that much to her ’allies’. After all, in their eyes, the Flying Man was far more important than someone like her; he was the only reason they even approached them in the first place.
So if the Chiefs could capture the Flying Man alive and give him to them? That would change the Stormcallers’ fate. It wouldn’t be impossible to rule over the entirety of Heights.
The rewards were simply too covetous to deny. Heck, even she would have sacrificed any of the other Chiefs if it meant getting her hands on the Flying Man.
And that’s what scared Zoraa the most.
The Flying Man seemed to think that holding her hostage would help him, but the moment he did that, the Chiefs would kill her first, then capture him. And while she couldn’t care less about the Flying Man getting captured, she did not wish to die.
Not yet.
So she—
"You need to ru—"
She tried to warn Kael.
She hoped he would somehow run away with her as his captive. As disgraceful and humiliating as it sounded, that was the only way she could actually save her life.
Or that’s what Zoraa thought, but before she could even complete her words—
WHOOSH
She froze because an arrow flew right at her and was just about to pierce her forehead if it wasn’t for Kael grabbing it with his hand.
"Kill Zoraa!
Capture Flying Man!"
And just as Zoraa expected, the orders were given. Her face paled when she realized they were completely surrounded, all the escape routes were cut.
The worst and most frustrating part?
In her final battle—
She couldn’t even fight back since her Sanctuary was sealed.
Even though she knew her Bonds wouldn’t have made any difference when all the Chiefs and sixty warriors had surrounded them, if she was going to die, she wanted to die fighting.
Yes, the woman had already started considering the Stormcallers her enemy.
As for feeling betrayed by her own people?
Her mind didn’t even register that thought. They only did what was convenient, what would have benefitted them. She would have done the same.
She wasn’t hypocritical enough to have a reaction regarding it.
In the end, however, Zoraa looked at Kael, her eyes shining in determination. She knew he couldn’t understand her, but she still wanted to give it a try—
"Let me fig—"
But before she could complete those words, Kael looked at her and—
"Stay."
He ordered.
Again, in a language Zoraa did not understand, but for some reason, she nodded her head on her own. Kael kept her on top of Igni and he hovered in the air, staring at the enemy with that same calm.
At the same time—
"ATTACK!!"
One of the Stormcaller Chiefs commanded loudly. The army moved towards the man who was hovering in the air, but just then—
THUNDER THUNDER THUNDER
The clouds rumbled with a loud, thunderous roar.
WHOOSH WHOOSH WHOOSH
Winds became unnaturally strong, so strong that the beasts carrying the Stormcaller army lost their balance.
In an instant, panic spread as the Stormcallers tried to balance themselves in the air and Kael—
His body began to change.
His black hair elongated, their shade changed, and they turned completely white, moving like lightning themselves. His irises disappeared completely, the white in his eyes took over, his eyebrows turned white too, his skin started glowing naturally, and his body seemed to become... one with lightning.
The winds around him only got stronger and stronger, to the point no flying beast could reach him. And he, standing at the very center of that storm, wasn’t affected in the least.
Zoraa stared at the sight in absolute awe. She was on top of Igni and close to Kael, so the strong winds did not affect her, but the rest of the Stormcaller army?
That was different.
Let alone trying to attack Kael, they were barely hanging in the air.
Kael, on the other hand, remained calm, and once his transformation was complete, he looked at the Stormcallers with his pure white eyes and waved his hand.
Then it happened.
THUNDER THUNDER THUNDER
Horrifying lightning bolts moved through the clouds and—
BOOOOM
They fell directly on the four Stormcaller Chiefs, who were already having a difficult time stabilizing their beasts. The Chiefs, however, still reacted quickly, protecting themselves at the last moment, but that little diversion was more than enough for the winds to push them off their beasts’ backs and they—
They fell.
"AAAGGGGHHHHHHH!!!"
"KKKKRRRIIEIEEEEEEEKKKKK!!!"
The beasts panicked, instantly diving down, trying to protect their masters.
Zoraa watched everything in utter disbelief, but—
This had only just begun.
Kael extended his arms. With him hovering in the air, he looked no different than a god who was looking down on the entire world.
The stormy clouds behind him made him look even more sacred than he already did, and as if to enhance that impression even further—
THUNDER THUNDER THUNDER
More than sixty bolts of lightning cracked behind him, all coming down at the same time and—
BOOOM BOOOM BOOOM
Explosions began.
Within a second, every single Stormcaller warrior was targeted by a lightning bolt. Many managed to defend themselves, but the wind didn’t make it easy for anyone.
"AAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!"
"SAVE ME!!!"
"NO!!!"
All warriors, without fail, fell from their beasts’ backs. Their beasts screamed in panic and rushed towards them. Some managed to catch their partners while others...
Well, other warriors weren’t that lucky and they...
They fell down, their bodies disappearing into the thick clouds like they no longer mattered.
Within two seconds, the Stormcaller army that was all over the sky and had surrounded the enemy—
they were nowhere to be seen. Only the enemy remained, hovering in the air, still with that same calm.
And Zoraa, who watched it all happen—
She stared, wide eyed, with only one question in her mind—
This... This was the monster they were supposed to defeat...?
She couldn’t believe it.
She looked around. Many Stormcaller warriors had survived, these beasts were well trained, they were fast enough to protect their partners from falling. But even though the warriors had survived and were mostly unhurt—
None of them moved up again—
Every single one of them stood down.
Every single one of them just... stared.
Pure horror written all over their faces.
And the enemy?
He waved his hand once again and once again—
THUNDER THUNDER THUNDER
The lightning moved at his command again.
This...
This was the appearance of the True God of Storms.
And the destruction was the consequence of angering him.
