Chapter 398 Save
Chapter 398 Save
'This Byakuya is really cruel and cold till the end; anyway, those with strong power have different quirks. I also have a few.'
Eero thought playfully, looking at Byakuya, and then glanced at Renji's fallen figure on the ground, the red blood staining the white haori, and muttered,
"Also, I should save this guy before he dies. I am paying attention to everything in order to avoid any plot change; if this guy dies here because of my presence, then it will be bad. At least he grew up with me since childhood.'
Eero thought to himself and then sighed, looking at the miserable Renji; his figure flickered, and the next moment he appeared beside Renji.
Byakuya and Renji both were startled noticing the unexpected arrival of Eero, the dust still settling from the Bankai's force.
"What are you doing here?" Byakuya's brow furrowed, and he asked, his voice sharp with annoyance, looking at Eero,
Thud!!!
Instantly the Renji figure fell on the ground, his body giving out. He turned his head and glanced at Eero standing beside him. A self-defeating smile appeared on his face, and he said,
"You can laugh at my miserable defeat now; I am not a monster like you, but I did my best in order to save her. At least I am not heartless like you."
Renji spoke, looking at the calm expression on Eero's face, the accusation loud and surprising the Byakuya standing far away.
After speaking, Renji suddenly spurted a mouthful of blood and then glanced at Byakuya and fell unconscious, his Reiatsu dangerously low.
'They know each other?' A thought flashed through Byakuya's mind hearing Renji's words, and then thinking of Rukia, a bad premonition spread through his heart, cold and unsettling.
'It seems this guy will be fine; I was worried for nothing; it doesn't matter even if he dies right now. If I hadn't made him unconscious, then he would have named me something else besides heartless and monster.'
Eero thought to himself, looking at the unconscious Renji on the ground speechlessly,
"Why did you save him?" Suddenly, Byakuya's questioning voice sounded behind him, demanding an answer.
Although Renji may not have noticed it, Byakuya felt a slight Reiatsu fluctuation near the Renji heart... a manipulation, subtle and alarming.
Eero turned and glanced at Byakuya and shook his head and replied with a serious expression,
"I didn't save him; I just stopped his Reiatsu from being depleted and compressed it in his heart. It will preserve his corpse for years after he dies."
Byakuya heard his reply, the words preposterous, then glanced at him with a dazed expression on his face, as if saying, Are you kidding me?
Eero didn't say anything, just glanced at him calmly in return, his eyes unblinking. Byakuya then gave Renji a final, dismissive glance and sheathed his zanpakuto, turned around, and walked away saying, "My duty here has been done."
Eero glanced at his back thoughtfully, 'Is this guy afraid? Or is he suggesting to me that he won't stop me? If I save Rukia, it seems he believed my words before.'
Eero thought to himself playfully and then glanced at the Renji body; he waved his hand, and instantly a white psychic layer flashed and covered Renji's body and the blood around it, as if the whole scene reversed; the blood flew back inside his wound, the severed spiritual links stitching themselves back together.
After a while revealing Renji with intact haori and body, without injury as if he is sleeping on the ground,
"Although I can heal your injury, I can't do anything about your broken zanpakuto; you can repair it yourself."
Eero spoke calmly, and then his figure flashed and disappeared, leaving behind Renji lying in the middle of the hallway, a monument to a failed but noble effort.
On the other hand, on the bridge leading to Sōkyoku Hill, while four members of the Kidō Corps escort her, Rukia stops in place upon realizing something has happened to Renji. The faint, weak echo of his Reiatsu was still there.
As she looks out over the Seireitei and mentally admits that she did not recognize Renji's Reiatsu until it faded because it was so powerful, Rukia concludes that it was definitely Renji and demands to know why he ended up in this situation.
Suddenly, 3rd Division Captain Gin Ichimaru approaches Rukia on the bridge, his steps quiet and unnerving, and after greeting her, Gin smiles maliciously, the expression a cold, reptilian flick of his eyes.
Standing across from Rukia Kuchiki, who is flanked by four members of the Kidō Corps, on the bridge leading to Sokyoku Hill, 3rd Division
Captain Gin Ichimaru chides Rukia for not addressing him as Captain Ichimaru and asserts that she will be scolded by her brother, Byakuya Kuchiki, if she does not change her attitude, only to chuckle and casually state that he was kidding before promising to not tell on her when a sweating Rukia nervously apologizes.
Upon being asked by Rukia why he is here, Gin claims that he was out for a walk and decided to visit just so he could tease Rukia a bit.
Rukia mentally asserts that she has always hated Gin and recalls how Gin would come over to talk to Byakuya after they became captains of their respective divisions while Byakuya was walking with her, and though a casual observer would not have seen anything special in their meaningless conversations, she broke into a cold sweat the first time she saw Gin.
Detailing how every aspect of Gin's body language felt like that of a hungry snake, to the point where it felt like his hands were around her throat and leaving her unable to blink even while he talked to Byakuya,
Rukia remembers how Gin's venom seeped into the small cracks of everyday life and left her feeling intense fear around him, a feeling that never went away no matter how many times she talked to him and persists even now.
