Chapter 1665 - 1603: It’s So Good That You’re Still Here

Wufu was out cold for three whole days. It wasn’t until the afternoon of the third day that she finally opened her eyes, and that was only because someone talking by her ear woke her.

"So noisy." She rasped, sounding extremely annoyed.

"Wufu, you’re awake." Someone touched her face, voice full of joy, and something cold dripped onto her cheek, icy against her skin.

Wufu opened her eyes, let her vision focus. What came into view was a face with stubble. She closed her eyes and opened them again, her voice a little unsure: "Ah Jiu?"

"It’s me." Ah Jiu held her, raining kisses all over her face, choking as he said, "Thank heaven, you finally woke up."

Wufu said, "Your beard’s pricking my face, it hurts." Then asked, "Is this Hell or the human world?"

"We’re still alive." Ah Jiu let out a laugh, then wiped at the corners of his eyes.

Wufu closed her eyes. She was so tired.

"Wufu?"

"I’m tired. Sleep with me." Wufu reached out a hand.

Ah Jiu’s heart went soft. He climbed onto the bed, carefully gathering her into his arms.

Wufu found a comfortable spot in his embrace, rested her hand on his waist, closed her eyes, and drifted off to sleep again.

Seeing her lie still, Ah Jiu listened closely. Her breathing was even. Only then did he finally let out a long breath of relief, close his eyes, and fall asleep as well.

Hearing movement, Yuan Ye walked in, only to see the two sleeping in each other’s arms. His eyes burned hot, and he silently backed out.

Outside the door, Xiao Li and Jadeite were each holding a tray. Seeing Yuan Ye come out, they hurried up to him in excitement.

"They’ve fallen asleep." Yuan Ye smiled.

"They’re both all right?" Jadeite asked.

Yuan Ye nodded. Jadeite promptly plopped down on the ground without a shred of composure and started sobbing.

She’d been scared to death.

With Jadeite crying, Xiao Li couldn’t help joining in with his own tears. Not far off, Mo Lan saw this, wiped at the corner of her eye, tapped her toes, and left with a burst of Qinggong—she needed to hide somewhere and have a good cry too.

Looking at the two of them, Yuan Ye’s mouth twitched. His feet moved quickly as he headed toward Bai Xiaobai’s place.

The two of them might be out of danger, but their bodies were still weak and needed careful nursing, especially Wufu, who had lost almost half the blood in her body. She needed even more attentive care.

And the Gu Insect had been drawn out; the twelfth month was drawing near, and the young lady’s mother was about to give birth. The young lady would definitely want to hurry back, so that had to be arranged properly. These small matters could not be left for the young lady to worry about anymore.

Word spread that both Wufu and Ah Jiu were safe, and everyone let out a collective breath of relief. Their taut hearts finally loosened. As long as they were fine, everything was fine.

It wasn’t that they’d never seen great storms and waves; it was just that these two were the sky over their heads. If one of them collapsed, the other would surely follow, and then what were they, as subordinates, supposed to do?

People all need leaders. Wufu and Ah Jiu were their leaders, the ones who led them forward.

And now that both of them were alive and well, all was right with the world.

What, their bodies were weak and needed nursing?

That was nothing. As long as they were alive, that was what mattered. Life was the root of all things.

Everyone split up to carry out Yuan Ye’s instructions. He was right: the things that needed doing had to be done. They absolutely couldn’t let those two drag their weakened bodies around worrying over everything anymore.

In her sleep, Wufu felt like she was being roasted atop a brazier, so hot she could hardly breathe. She couldn’t help opening her eyes.

What she saw was a pair of deep eyes, shot through with red veins, fixed on her, gaze tender and lingering.

"Ah Jiu?" Wufu blinked and curved her lips in a smile.

Ah Jiu pressed down on her head and covered her lips with his, kissing her and tasting her with lingering tenderness.

"Wufu, thank you for staying alive." He pulled back from her lips, hugged her tight, and murmured into her ear.

Wufu’s heart warmed. She wrapped her arms around him in return. "You too, Ah Jiu. I’m so glad you’re still here!"
