Chapter 1513 - 1451: Arrows Incoming
Arriving at the most renowned Maple Viewing Pavilion, Wufu finally felt she could stand at a high place and overlook the small mountains.
The pavilion was a hexagonal one, each corner hung with bronze bells marked with Evil-Repelling Talismans. When the wind blew, the bells inside gently collided, producing a sound that was not clear but rather prolonged.
Leaning on the wooden railing, Wufu looked down at the temple below. The setting sun shone on the splendid spire, making it even more dazzling, piercing the eyes.
She squinted slightly and shifted her gaze to the large maple forest, which was now deep autumn. The maple leaves were as red as blood, and some leaves floated down gently with the breeze.
Wufu turned her head to look at the other side of the rocky mountain, the scenery there far more appealing to her than the blood-red foliage on this side.
Suddenly feeling a weight on her shoulders, Wufu turned slightly; it was Ah Jiu who draped a thin cloak over her.
"The mountain winds are chilly, and we’ve broken out into sweat coming up here. Don’t catch a cold," Ah Jiu smiled beside her, looking down.
"Thanks." Wufu fastened the cloak ties, gracefully turned, and lightly hopped onto the railing, sitting and watching him with a smile.
"Is this place nice?" Ah Jiu’s eyes glimmered as he looked at her.
Wufu raised an eyebrow and said, "Do you want to hear the truth or a lie?"
"What’s the truth, and what’s the lie?"
"The truth is, being with you, anywhere is nice." Wufu smiled: "The lie is this place isn’t nice, these maple leaves are too red."
Ah Jiu seemed a bit annoyed: "I thought you’d like it too, after all, it’s a famous spot."
"I do like it, just not extremely so."
"Then let’s sit for a while and then go down; after all, the wind on the mountain is strong and chilly," Ah Jiu laughed: "Once we go down, we’ll head to Liangzi Town to stay. Let them buy crabs in advance."
Wufu nodded quickly, looking toward Chi Wu below the pavilion: "Tell Xiao Qi to come back!"
Ever since coming up the mountain, Xiao Qi had taken Xiao Ba—the little wolf they acquired at the estate last time—and run further ahead, and now it wasn’t clear where the two had gone.
Chi Wu blew a sharp whistle.
After waiting a while, the two didn’t return, Wufu frowned slightly and said, "I don’t know how far they’ve gone. Go up and look for them, don’t let them wander too far."
Xiao Qi is sharp enough; she wasn’t worried he’d lose direction, especially since there was still a little wolf, it’d surely find its way back.
Chi Wu sent a guard to search.
Only after a moment did they hear movement coming from the mountain. Just as Wufu’s mouth curled into a smile, preparing to look over, she sensed something amiss. Her body swiftly leaped from the railing and tackled Ah Jiu.
A feathered arrow flew past where Ah Jiu had been standing, with a thud, burying itself into the wooden pillar of the pavilion.
Wufu pursed her lips and let out a sharp whistle. Then, she looked up, seeing the entire arrow embedded in the pillar, which was solid and as thick as three hands clasped together.
The opponent’s arm strength was unknown, but the arrows came fierce and fast; had Wufu been a step slower, Ah Jiu might have been pierced through.
As the first arrow missed, two more swiftly followed, aimed at them on the ground.
Already from the first arrow, Yuan Ye had leaped over, swiftly slicing down the two arrows with a sword, though still shaking slightly from the arrow’s impact.
Wufu shouted, "Chi Wu, Northwest position, send two men!"
The arrows were shot from the Northwest direction, but unfortunately, the sun was there too, making it difficult to see where the enemy was hiding, though it was certainly in that direction.
As Wufu shouted, she rolled with Ah Jiu down the pavilion, using it as a shield while Yuan Ye and Hoo Die simultaneously leaped down to protect them.
