Chapter 1982 Admiration
“Cousin, I didn’t mean to provoke you with the past, but the opportunity for revenge is right before my eyes, and if I miss it, I’ll never have another chance.” Princess Erya’s eyes seemed to burn with a fire, her obsession bordering on madness. “What does my life matter?”
“Erya…” her cousin’s eyes reddened, “Have you thought about the consequences? After this action, we will have to completely break with Dajing. And Miluo is not a benevolent force. Caught between the two countries, will the Di and Rong tribes have any chance of survival?”
"Our homeland is long gone." Princess Erya's expression gradually turned resentful. "It's no pity if the Di and Rong tribes are destroyed. As long as the Wu clan prospers, nothing else matters."
“Since you’ve made up your mind…” my cousin said slowly, “then I’ll do it.”
"No!" A hint of panic flashed across Princess Erya's face. Her cousin frowned and said, "Why? You've already placed a curse on Fang Zilan. Whose life will you use..."
"I said no, and that's final!" Princess Erya interrupted her sharply. "That Gu is fed with my blood essence, and no one but me can control it, not even you, my cousin."
My cousin suddenly realized what had happened. "Erya, what exactly did you do?"
“Cousin, whatever I did was for the sake of the Wu clan.” After saying this, Princess Erya ruthlessly pushed her cousin out and locked the door from the inside.
"Erya, don't do anything foolish!" her cousin shouted, though she tried to keep her voice down for fear of attracting too many people, but received no response.
Princess Erya sat at the table and gently opened the wooden box in her hand, revealing a Gu worm inside.
She didn't tell anyone that she had started this scheme years ago, when Fang Zilan first approached her. Guiding Fang Zilan to the Miluo Palace to find the High Priest was to make the scheme even more perfect.
Now that things have come to this, not only is her scheme perfect, but she also has someone helping her. How could she let go of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity?
Thinking of this, Princess Erya took out a knife and cut her wrist. She fed the Gu poison with her blood while chanting incantations. This was, in fact, her first time using such powerful witchcraft; she hoped it wouldn't be a disappointment.
Fang Zilan straightened up and asked sternly, "Whose idea was it to massacre the city, drive out and kill the people of Dajing, force me to open the city gates, and order you to assassinate me? Was it Murong Xun or Mu Chuji?"
"Pah!" one of them spat. "You think you're worthy to mention our lord's name..."
Before he could finish speaking, a scream rang out. Fang Zilan swiftly slashed off his ear, grabbed his hand, and broke off a finger. "I love a tough guy like you, too bad..."
She paused deliberately, her hands continuing their movements until all five fingers were broken, before she said slowly, "These bones aren't strong enough. How come they broke so easily?"
Seeing his companion covered in blood and in unbearable pain, a man nearby stammered, "I said, it's His Highness Prince Qi..."
"That little brat Mu Chuji is ruthless enough," Fang Zilan commented calmly. "He even came up with such a vicious plan. What is Murong Xun doing? Retiring in the army?"
Another person quickly chimed in, "King Zhongzheng is already on his way to Qiluo City and should arrive in the next couple of days."
"It's good that we've arrived." Fang Zilan finally felt relieved. Now that she was certain that the people of Miluo only had one army and had not secretly sent troops to attack other places, she could focus all her efforts on defending Miluo City.
She composed herself and sat down in the main seat. "Alright, seeing how cooperative you've been, I'll spare your corpses. Men, drag them down and hang them on the city wall. And that one who fed the dogs, if he hasn't been chopped up yet, hang him up too. If he's chopped up, hang his head up." After everyone was dragged out, Zhou Lang looked at Fang Zilan and asked, "Lord Fang, what about the people we rescued and brought into the city? I'm afraid there's nowhere in the city to take them in."
"Before Qiluo City is surrounded by the Miluo people, you take men and send them out of the city through the north gate overnight. Also, send out any civilians who do not wish to stay in the city." Fang Zilan softened her voice, her eyes showing signs of weariness. "If it's another ten days or half a month, once the Miluo people besiege the city, no one will be able to get out."
Zhou Lang's heart sank. "Lord Fang, are you going to defend Qiluo City to the death?"
"Yes." Fang Zilan raised her hand and gently pressed her brow. "As the Duke of Yue of Dajing, I will not back down an inch. If the Miluo people want to continue to invade Dajing, they will have to step over my dead body."
She sighed softly, "But they are all ordinary people who only want to live a peaceful life. There is no need for them to stay here and die with me."
Zhou Lang nodded slightly. "I understand." He turned to leave, but Fang Zilan called out to him, "Deputy General Zhou, sending civilians out of the city will inevitably cause some panic in the army."
Her expression hardened, and she said in a deep voice, word by word, "In my army, there will be no deserters."
"Rest assured, Lord Fang," Zhou Lang said firmly. "We soldiers are duty-bound to charge into battle and protect the safety of our country and its people. How could we possibly desert our posts?"
"Alright." Fang Zilan breathed a sigh of relief, and Zhou Lang didn't linger any longer, walking straight out of the tent.
After watching Zhou Lang's figure disappear, Fang Zilan suddenly coughed violently. Deputy General Cao said urgently, "I'll go find Miss Awan right away."
However, before Vice General Cao could even leave the tent, A-Wan burst in, "Lord Fang, I heard you're injured..."
"It's alright, I won't die." Fang Zilan's lips curled slightly. Awan stomped her foot angrily when she saw the bloodstains on her body. "So much blood, and you still say it's alright?"
Deputy General Cao scratched the back of his head and couldn't help but say, "That Miss Awan, the boss has someone else's blood on him..." Before Awan could react, he slipped out of the tent.
“You heard it too…” Fang Zilan looked at Awan innocently, then interrupted her without any politeness, “The injuries were all caused by others, right? Then I’ll leave now.”
Awan made a move to leave, but Fang Zilan called out helplessly, "Come back."
Hearing this, A-Wan stopped, but showed no sign of returning. Fang Zilan coughed, her voice carrying a hint of pleading, "A-Wan, I'm injured..."
Before she could finish speaking, Awan quickly walked to her side and said, "Let me see."
Fang Zilan obediently extended her hand. After taking her pulse, Awan breathed a sigh of relief, "She's alright. The Gu poison is under control and shouldn't flare up anytime soon. I'll treat your injuries for you. You should get some rest."
"Okay." Fang Zilan nodded, letting Awan do as she pleased, and fell asleep without realizing it.
