Chapter 1934 Judgment
Fang Zilan felt her eyelids twitching incessantly. The rain had been pouring down for almost the entire day, the sky was gloomy and dark, making it impossible to distinguish between day and night, and she felt a strange sense of unease.
She didn't believe in ghosts and gods originally, but since such an absurd thing as time travel happened to her, what about witch doctors and Yin-Yang techniques, which she had only seen in books before? In addition, she also had Gu poison in her body. As a firsthand witness, it was difficult for her to directly say whether she believed or not.
However, seeing how frightened Awan was by the thunder, she couldn't bear to scare her any further, and simply said, "There are often thunderclaps in late spring and early summer, so it looks like it's going to rain."
Awan took a deep breath and calmed herself down. "Fang Zilan, I'm a little scared."
"Don't be afraid, I'm here." Fang Zilan had barely finished speaking when a sudden storm arrived, the crashing sound drowning out her words.
She lifted the carriage curtain and looked at the empty street, which appeared even more desolate after being washed by the rain. Puddles of water had formed in the recesses of the blue bricks along the street, and occasionally children wearing raincoats and straw hats would playfully stomp around, splashing water everywhere.
"Lord Fang, it's raining heavily outside. You should lower the curtain." A soldier accompanying the emperor couldn't help but remind him, but Fang Zilan remained unmoved. "It's alright."
The guards were about to say something more when they saw Fang Zilan thoughtfully open her mouth, "Zheng Yan should already be at the palace gate by now..."
The rain was pouring down, and the guards seemed not to have heard them clearly. They asked instinctively, "Lord Fang, what did you say?"
"It's nothing." Fang Zilan looked ahead. "We'll be at the palace soon."
Zheng Yan stood at the palace gate with an umbrella in hand. When he saw Fang Zilan's carriage stop, he quickly walked over, helped her down from the carriage, and whispered in her ear, "Lord Fang, it's definitely auspicious flowers."
Fang Zilan's heart sank. "At the welcome banquet later, just pretend you don't know anything."
"Yes." Zheng Yan stepped back behind Fang Zilan and said nothing more.
"Lord Duke of Yue, you must be very tired to come in such heavy rain." A palace servant greeted them and led Fang Zilan and Zheng Yan into Wanfu Palace.
Shortly after Fang Zilan took her seat, the Di Rong delegation arrived. Princess Erya and her extra maid followed behind the chief envoy, both with their heads bowed and faces veiled, making it impossible to see their true appearances.
After the Di Rong delegation paid their respects, some courtiers became very curious about Princess Erya. Amidst their whispers, one of the princesses of Prince Yucheng, Li Qiyou, came to the rescue, saying, "Sister Erya comes from our Di Rong Wu clan and is skilled in divination. I wonder if we could have the honor of meeting her today?"
Upon hearing this, Fang Zilan glanced calmly at Princess Yucheng, who was also from Dirong, before her gaze fell on Li Qiyou. He remained composed, seemingly unsurprised by his princess's suggestion.
Before Fang Zilan could think further, she saw Princess Erya bow to Li Shengxuan and, after receiving permission, walk towards her, saying, "Lord Fang, please."
Fang Zilan was stunned. Could it be that Princess Erya was going to tell her fortune?
In a flash, several thoughts raced through her mind. What if Princess Erya was in cahoots with the Ghost Gate and revealed her identity as Zixiu, or the background of the third young lady of the Prime Minister's mansion, or even a former princess of the previous dynasty...?
Either way, it's enough to cause a huge uproar.
What Fang Zilan did not expect was that Princess Erya stared at her intently and said, word by word, "Lord Fang, you did not originally belong here. Even though the body is the same, the person is different."
With a deafening roar, amidst the thunder and lightning, Fang Zilan's pale face was revealed. How did Princess Erya know this?
Fang Zilan was so bored that she threw a piece of paper out the window, which hit Shangguan Min, who had come to visit her.
Shangguan Min rested her hands on the window frame and peered into the room at the listless man. "What are your orders, Lord Fang?"
"How's your marksmanship coming along?" Fang Zilan asked listlessly. "Show me."
Shangguan Min looked around incredulously and said, "Right here?" "Of course not, I haven't planned to let you demolish all the houses in my mansion." Fang Zilan said with little interest, "There's an open space in the back, that's where I usually practice martial arts. Take your gun and wait for me there."
Shangguan Min nodded in agreement, but Awan inside the room had overheard their conversation clearly. "Fang Zilan, can you behave for an hour?"
Fang Zilan blinked innocently, "I'll watch from inside the pavilion, I guarantee I won't be exposed to the wind or get wet from the snow."
Knowing she couldn't win against her, Awan glared at her, turned around, slammed the door, and left the house.
Fang Zilan wrapped herself in her thickest fox fur cloak, grabbed a hand warmer, and leisurely walked over.
Shangguan Min waited in the open space with a long spear, and Deputy General Cao was also there. The two were talking, but stopped when they saw Fang Zilan approaching.
"I'll look from this side." Fang Zilan walked straight into the pavilion, pulled up a chair, and sat down by the door.
Deputy General Cao moved a brazier and placed it next to her. "Boss, is this really okay?"
"If they can't, they will naturally take me back." Fang Zilan didn't even lift her eyelids. Deputy General Cao looked at Awan and Wenya who were walking quickly towards him, opened his mouth but didn't say anything.
After Awan and Wenya stood still, Fang Zilan called out, "Don't stand there, bring a chair over and sit down."
The master and apprentice exchanged a glance, and as if resigned to their fate, they each moved a chair and sat down next to Fang Zilan.
After everyone was seated, Shangguan Min asked, "Lord Fang, may we begin?"
Fang Zilan nodded, and Shangguan Min twirled her spear and demonstrated every single spear technique she had learned.
After the demonstration, Fang Zilan looked at Deputy General Cao and Wen Ya beside her and said, "Old Cao, Mr. Wen, what do you two think of Shangguan Min's marksmanship?"
"Your marksmanship is excellent, but..." Deputy General Cao didn't finish his sentence. Fang Zilan said calmly, "Just say what you have to say. Are you afraid that Shangguan Min will hold a grudge against you?"
Deputy General Cao scratched the back of his head and said bluntly, "The moves were a bit dragged out and not clean and crisp enough."
"Mr. Wen, what do you think?" Fang Zilan leaned back in her chair. Wen Ya still had a gentle and refined appearance, but his words were quite blunt. "All show and no substance. If he encounters a master, he will probably die countless times."
Shangguan Min walked up to the group, looking dejected and remaining silent with her head down.
Fang Zilan stared intently at Shangguan Min. "Do you have anything to say in your rebuttal?"
"I..." Shangguan Min hesitated for a moment before saying, "I would like to know your opinion, Lord Fang."
"About the same as them." Fang Zilan said seriously, "Your foundation is very solid, and your marksmanship can be seen to have been carefully taught by General Shangguan Jing. Every move is quite decent. However, you are not good at thinking things through, and you lack guidance from experts, so your progress is indeed not great."
Shangguan Min lowered her head even further. "I understand. Thank you for your guidance, Lord Fang."
“Shangguan Min, you are still young, there’s no need for that,” Fang Zilan said casually. “If you’re willing, I can instruct you in martial arts.”
