Chapter 54: The Fallen Empire

Chapter 54: The Fallen Empire

As narrated by the event keeper

Captain Agatha’s gaze locked on the carnage, fear and hopelessness crashing over her like a tidal wave. She had sworn to safeguard her squadron, yet every righteous stand exacted a brutal toll. William lay cold on the ground, his chest cleaved in two, a gaping wound that mocked his unyielding spirit. Yukio’s charred remains smoked in the dirt, a grim testament to his sacrifice. And Cipher... his head vaporized, his body a headless husk amid the rubble.

Fire ignited in her eyes, fear twisting into a searing rage that consumed her. Dropping Sane gently, she compressed her energy, her skin glowing red-hot as power surged through her veins. With a primal scream, she charged Skepto, Dmitry and the twins at her heels—battered, depleted, but fueled by one last desperate spark.

The four elites watched from the sidelines, their expressions a mask of calculated detachment, the desolate arena a canvas of their inaction.

Agatha reached Skepto first, unleashing her stored energy in a concentrated beam—a lance of light capable of slicing through any metal on Earth. The twins flanked her, their combined energy manipulation forming a searing laser that pierced the air. Dmitry swung his hammer in an earth-shattering arc, the ground trembling under its weight.

Skepto dismissed their onslaught with a flick, his scales deflecting the beam and laser like rain off stone. He sent the twins and Dmitry tumbling across the sand, then seized Agatha by the throat, his fingers like iron vices.

She poured everything into her attack, but Skepto emerged unscathed, his dragon scales an impenetrable shield—even against his own antimatter. They gleamed under the fading light, a fortress forged in power.

Choking her slowly, Skepto’s grip tightened, Agatha’s vision blurring as life slipped away. Billy and Bill-board lay unconscious, Dmitry on his knees, gasping. In that instant, Agatha knew Squadron-X was on the verge of extinction.

Then, a voice shattered the air. “Enough!”

Victor stood beside her, wrenching Skepto’s hand free. “This fight is over! You won!”

Skepto’s eyes narrowed to slits, menace radiating from him. By now, he’d resolved to erase Squadron-X entirely—their defiance an insult he couldn’t abide.

The other elites surged forward, sensing the escalation. Commander Grey planted himself before Victor. “Step back!” he ordered. “Skepto’s our commanding general—we’re not allowed to fight him!”

Victor’s grip didn’t waver. “As annoying as she is, she’s the only thing close to family I’ve got left. I won’t stand here and watch you kill her!”

Neither budged, the standoff a powder keg. Skepto’s fingers flexed, ready to crush Victor’s defiance.

“Skepto,” Zenith interjected, her voice steady amid the storm. “We need her alive. She’s Squadron-X’s captain—kill her, and the others will lash out.”

“Lash out?” Skepto sneered, his laugh a thunderclap. “You mean those pathetic weaklings crumbling in the dirt? They sealed their fate the moment they defied me. I’ll end them all!” His hold on Agatha’s neck constricted, her groans fading to whispers.

Victor’s Solid State ignited, power coursing through him as he prepared to unleash everything.

In a blur of motion, Victor dashed back miles to build momentum, then rocketed forward, his fist a comet streaking through the air. He slammed into Skepto, the impact sending shockwaves rippling across the shattered arena, forcing Skepto to release Agatha as he skidded back, digging furrows in the sand.

“How dare you!” Skepto roared, landing on his feet, his scales crackling with energy.

Victor’s voice was a low growl. “You think I was serious last time we fought? I thought you might save this planet. Cipher was right—you’re just a pathetic bully craving attention.”

Skepto’s rage boiled over, his fists forming as he charged. Victor didn’t wait—he struck from all directions at once, his speed a whirlwind that Skepto couldn’t track. Grey, Guardian, and Zenith watched from afar, the ground trembling with each clash.

Then Skepto unleashed an antimatter wave, a rippling sphere of annihilation exploding outward, forcing Victor to defend not just himself but the others. Moving at near light speed, Victor created a vortex of motion, generating a high-speed barrier that dispersed the wave’s energy, redirecting its destructive force into harmless bursts. But the effort cost him—wounds tore open across his body, and he dropped to his knees, gasping.

Skepto hadn’t used even a quarter of his power. Zenith and Guardian knew it, their faces pale with the unspoken truth: standing against him meant oblivion.

“Why do you all keep getting in my way?” Skepto thundered, advancing on Victor. “I will—”

He froze mid-sentence, his gaze dropping to his hands. Cipher’s blood clung to his skin, unvaporized by the antimatter. It should have disintegrated—everything should have. Skepto’s eyes widened as he spun toward Cipher’s headless body.

Minutes earlier, Cipher’s consciousness had fragmented, scattered like shards of glass across the arena. His mind felt ripped apart, each piece a separate, echoing thought. Then, a notification flared in the darkness:

5. Black Coat: status: Inactive

“2.0!” Cipher called, his thoughts reverberating in the void. “What’s happening? Am I dead?”

“Not yet,” 2.0 replied. “Pushing to the edge paid off. Internal Atomic Manipulation’s at 100%. Your atoms are marked now.”

“Marked? Meaning...”

“You’ve leveled up. Your body can handle the full power inside. He’ll need more than brute force to kill us now.”

}

Cipher’s scattered atoms—brain cells, blood, fragments from the battlefield and Skepto’s hands—reassembled in a surge of light. His body reformed, whole and unyielding.

Skepto stumbled back, nearly losing his balance. Cipher wasted no second, snatching Yukio’s Void-Breaker from the ground—the only weapon that had pierced Skepto’s scales. At 100% power, the sword drank greedily from Cipher’s energy, its blade darkening to an inky black. Cipher charged, each swing a blur, carving deep gashes into Skepto’s flesh at speeds he couldn’t see.

Guardian’s eyes blazed with fury as he watched his lord being carved apart from all sides by Cipher’s relentless assault. The lost power from Sane’s attack surged back through his veins, his eyes glowing red as he activated his solid state to its maximum. With a roar, he charged toward Cipher, his massive frame shaking the ground.

Before he could close the distance, Laura Zenith stepped into his path, her expression a storm of conflict. “Don’t, Guardian,” she said, her voice steady but laced with fear. “I know you’re afraid too. What we saw... but that kid might actually defeat him.”

“Step aside, Zenith!” Guardian bellowed, his voice thunderous. “Are you betraying the master?”

“He destroyed an entire planet—billions of lives!” Zenith shot back, holding her ground. “I’m sorry, but I can’t live like this anymore. Afraid every day that he’ll kill us all!”

Laura Zenith’s resolve hardened, her powers flaring to their peak. John Grey, standing between the two sides, shifted his stance, his mind turning against Skepto and Guardian. The two of them now faced Guardian, a clash of former allies in the shadow of betrayal.

As the fight raged on, Skepto was pushed to his breaking point. He realized death loomed at the hands of the son of the man he despised most. With a savage growl, he decided to end it all. His eyes shifted to a striking green, and he screamed, the sound echoing like a death knell, activating his solid state. His body transformed, the air around him warping as he vibrated vertically in place, a blurring pillar of raw energy.

Victor rose unsteadily. “What’s happening? What is he doing?”

Zenith and Guardian halted their duel, eyes wide. “It’s what happened before he dove into the Vodock planet’s core,” Zenith exclaimed. “He’s charging himself!”

“I told you not to fight him!” Guardian shouted, his voice cracking with despair. “Now it’s over for all of us!”

The indomitable Guardian’s surrender spoke volumes—death was imminent. A few seconds later, Skepto stilled, his eyes promising apocalypse, and their hearts sank.

{

“2.0!” Cipher screamed in his mind. “We’re running out of time! We need to end this now!”

“It’s done,” 2.0 replied, activating their trump card.

Black Coat: Status > Active

}

Cipher, with 2.0’s aid, conjured a large, square dark coat that enveloped the entire battle scene. Unlike the Jet Coat, this one detached from his body, compressing toward Skepto like a cage, sealing him inside. Skepto unleashed his full power—a cataclysmic burst rivaling the force that shattered the Vodock planet.

Everyone braced for oblivion.

Seconds passed, and they were still breathing. The Black Coat had absorbed it all, devouring Skepto’s antimatter energy. For the first time, Skepto glimpsed his own mortality.

“What have you done to me?” he cried, clawing at the intangible shroud. But it was beyond his grasp—Cipher alone controlled it. “What are you?!”

To finish the fight, Cipher touched Skepto’s forehead and activated Power-Plug, channeling over 15% of his energy to fry him from within. The dark surge didn’t just incapacitate Skepto—it stripped his powers permanently, reducing him to a first-level Neogen.

As the mighty Skepto crumpled in defeat, Guardian and the others lowered their weapons. The battle was over.

Cipher stood still. A sorrowful stare across the scene.

“You did it!” A voice called from behind him. He turned to see Sane on her feet, her eyes weak but alive. Disbelief washed over him—she had defied death twice. He rushed to her, embracing her in a tearful hug.

The victory was bittersweet. Pain etched every face as they gathered around Yukio’s burned body. The captain cradled him, tears streaming down her cheeks in sorrowful silence.

“Captain!” Diego arrived suddenly, taking Yukio from her arms. “Let me see!”

His Solid State activated, and with a touch, he began redirecting Yukio’s energy, rearranging molecules to heal him. The squad watched in awe, their hearts lifting at Diego’s power—but William’s loss weighed heavy, a void no miracle could fill.

As hope flickered, Cipher felt a chill crawl across his skin—a presence creeping from behind.

He turned, and there stood a ghost: his father, Frederick Silver, ragged clothes clinging to his frame, beard nearly grazing his chest. Beside him waddled a short, furred alien creature.

Frederick rushed past Cipher without a glance, his eyes fixed on Laura Zenith and Guardian. “Laura! Guardian!” he exclaimed, relief flooding his voice. “I knew you’d come to your senses and stop him!”

“Dr. Silver!” Laura stumbled back, her eyes wide with shock. “How are you alive?”

“It’s not us who stopped him...” Guardian began.

“I’m afraid there’s no time to celebrate!” Frederick interjected, his tone urgent. “The world’s in danger! We must act now, before we’re all destroyed!”

And so, the battle they thought won was merely the prelude to a war that would decide not just humanity’s fate, but the universe’s.
