Chapter 402 - 380: Only a Cold Heart Remained
When Dudu saw him walk into the room, her entire body went stiff. She sat there motionless, even her breathing shallow.Shen Yiran just glanced indifferently. Seeing that others were surprised by his arrival, only she lowered her head, seemingly avoiding his gaze.
She used to run up to him the moment she saw him...
That night’s scene replayed in her mind. Besides her body, had her heart slowly fallen for that man too?
They were all work friends, chatting away and drifting into work-related topics. Dudu was somewhat absent-minded, burying her head in the dishes before her. What used to taste delicious now seemed bland.
However, the man opposite her was equally distracted, though he appeared to be engaging with the others. His thoughts were clearly elsewhere. He noticed that the woman who used to happily demand he serve her food now silently ate only her own small dishes. Shen Yiran quietly rotated the lazy Susan to place her favorite dishes in front of her.
Dudu looked at the ribs before her, unsure if he did it intentionally or not. She silently reached out with her chopsticks and took a piece. The taste was the same as before...
The dinner remained lively, especially because of his presence. The conversations mainly revolved around him. Dudu felt the room growing stuffy and excused herself to the restroom.
Shen Yiran glanced at her indifferently, purposely dropped a piece of food on his clothes, and said calmly, "I’ll go clean up."
As soon as he left, the room buzzed even more, "Oh my god, he’s so handsome!"
"He’s still single. Manager, invite him for a few more meals. Maybe one of us still has a chance to marry into wealth. The girls in our department are all quite fine."
The manager sneered, "They’re fine, but the good ones are already married. The remaining ones are just leftover flowers. Even President Shen’s sister wouldn’t consider you, plus I think your aim isn’t to marry into wealth but to get free meals from me, right?"
"Manager, that’s unfair to say. We see each other every day in the office; don’t you know what kind of people we are?"
"I know exactly what kind of people you are!"
...
Shen Yiran didn’t go to the restroom but stood by the corridor. Only when he saw her coming out did he pretend to head to the restroom.
As they walked towards each other, they exchanged a glance. Even without others around, she still gave him a stranger’s look before brushing past him.
Shen Yiran reached out and grabbed her arm, stepping back to face her. He gazed at her, uncertain of what to say, or where he found the courage to hold her.
Dudu’s heart was racing, but she maintained a calm exterior. She looked down at his hand gripping her, then looked up at him, respectfully yet coldly asked, "President Shen, is there something you need?"
Shen Yiran bit his lip, looked down at her, and said coldly, "You see me and don’t even say hello?"
Dudu slowly removed his hand and said, "Your reputation in this circle is too big. I’m afraid getting too close to you will cause trouble at work."
She had once given him all her passion, but now her heart was left cold.
She didn’t know what attitude to have when seeing him again, so she chose to act like a stranger.
Even after regaining her freedom, she didn’t dare hope to be with him again, nor would she ever sacrifice everything for him as she used to.
