Chapter 392 - 370: The Heart That Once Cherished Him

Seeing the door, the doorknob had gathered dust, indicating that the apartment wasn’t occupied. He wandered around the floor thoughtfully, realizing it wasn’t too late, he quickly went downstairs to the sales office. The sales staff were very enthusiastic. Although they were about to get off work, upon hearing he wanted to see the apartment, they picked up the keys and followed him upstairs without any hesitation.

Shen Yiran didn’t check out other rooms but headed straight to the balcony. As he had expected, the angle here formed a ninety-degree angle with her bedroom’s private balcony. If she kept the curtains open, he could see her.

The apartment was fully furnished, and the furniture was still brand new. The salesperson said, "This is the largest layout, three bedrooms, two living rooms. The furniture is brand new, so you don’t need to worry about the quality. If there’s any damage within five years, we’ll handle repairs and replacements. If you’re in a hurry, you can move in tonight. We hire someone to clean monthly, so just a little tidying up will be fine."

Shen Yiran nodded and, without much hesitation, went back to the sales office to pay in full. After completing the procedures, he eagerly went upstairs with the keys.

The sales office arranged two cleaning staff for him to clean the apartment, but he didn’t care about that. Upon entering, he went straight to the balcony, gazing at her wide floor-to-ceiling windows. The curtains were halfway drawn, and through the transparent glass on the other side, he could see her sitting at the computer desk.

She was wearing the spaghetti strap nightdress he once accompanied her to buy, with her hair wet and messy, tied into a bun as if she had just taken a shower.

Sitting cross-legged on the chair, holding a bucket of instant noodles, she seemed like a seasoned homebody. Since when did she start wearing glasses? Had she become nearsighted from being in front of the computer all the time?

Had she been so busy at night that she hadn’t eaten dinner, now holding instant noodles to eat?

Feeling both heartache and helplessness, but at this moment, what good was feeling heartache? Apart from watching her from afar, he couldn’t do anything for her.

She was hungry; he couldn’t cook for her in the middle of the night. He couldn’t help with her late-night overtime either.

As the night deepened, there was no sight of Qiao Luchen returning, nor did she go to sleep. She went to the bathroom twice, then sat alone in front of the computer, flipping through materials and programming.

He stood by the balcony and watched, the cigarette butts unconsciously piling up on the ground. Dudu kept staring at the computer, not noticing someone watching her from the darkness not far away.

At four in the morning, he finally saw her stretch and close the computer. Then she picked up her phone and sat in the chair, scrolling through it for a while. The distance was too far; he couldn’t see the phone’s content. Shortly afterward, she put down the phone, probably went to the bathroom to wash up, and upon returning, she fully closed the curtains, blocking his view. Soon after, the room went dark.

Shen Yiran felt somewhat relieved and went back to his room after finishing the cigarette in his hand.

Thinking about her being just a wall away, his heart felt a bit more at ease.

The next day, his internal alarm woke him up on time. Still feeling a bit unfamiliar with the new environment, he recalled the previous night, got out of bed, and went to the balcony. This time the curtains were completely open, and he saw her already dressed in office attire, putting on makeup in front of the mirror.

Looking at his watch, it was past seven. She had only slept for a bit over three hours. He was used to sleeping less or even not sleeping at all, but it was tough for her. It seemed that working had greatly changed her.

Maybe it’s not just her habits and personality that have changed, but also the heart that once deeply loved him...
