In the afternoon, Grandma and Su Nian arrived at Shen Yiran’s company as planned. They went straight to his office upstairs. When they walked in, he was sitting by the floor-to-ceiling window with a cup of coffee on the desk but no documents, clearly not handling any work.His dazed thoughts were interrupted by the noise at the door. Seeing it was his mom and grandma, Shen Yiran stood up and walked over, asking casually, "Why are you here?"
Su Nian helped the elderly lady to sit on the sofa. Shen Yiran called for tea and also sat opposite them, "Mom, is there something you need?"
Grandma spoke for Su Nian, "Today is Xiaoxiao’s engagement. We called to invite you for a meal, but you said you were busy. Yet it seems you are quite free now."
Shen Yiran replied, "I just had lunch and was resting. I have a meeting soon."
"I see... Well, Grandma won’t beat around the bush, let’s talk about the main issue."
Shen Yiran respectfully sat there, handing the freshly-brewed tea to Grandma, quietly waiting for her to continue.
"Your mom and I have talked to you about this before. But you’ve never given us an answer. You haven’t been home recently, so we came to your office."
Shen Yiran took a deep breath, somewhat understanding the purpose of their visit.
"You don’t have a girl you like, and you’re not willing to go on blind dates. Tell us, what exactly do you want?"
"Let things take their course."
"Grandma knows that going with the flow is good. But look at you; your work is so busy that you don’t meet any girls. How long do you plan to wait for things to happen naturally?"
Shen Yiran remained silent. In his heart, he felt more regret—regret for not holding on tight when he once had it.
Su Nian spoke earnestly, "Grandma has picked a few nice girls for you. Set aside some time this afternoon. We’ve arranged to meet at the café opposite. Let’s see if anyone catches your eye. It’s about time you started a family."
"Mom, I know my own matters."
"You know, but does the family know? We’re all worried about you. You never share what’s on your mind with the family. Share your thoughts, and we’ll help you figure things out. You have such a big family, why make yourself look so lonely?"
"You were so obedient when you were young. Now that you’ve grown up, you don’t talk to us anymore, do you?"
Shen Yiran took a sip of tea and heard Grandma say, "I’ve already arranged for this afternoon. If you have a meeting, go to it. Finish early. The meeting is at three in the afternoon. Your mom and I will wait here for you."
"I’m not going."
"Grandma knows you haven’t interacted much with girls. Your mom and I will be there. You just need to see them. Whether you like them or not, tell Grandma in private, and I’ll handle it."
Not allowing Shen Yiran to refuse, Su Nian continued, "Grandma has already made the appointment. Even if you don’t like them, you have to meet them once. We’re not asking you to marry someone right away. If you like someone, Mom and Grandma can help you."
Shen Yiran frowned, looking somewhat frustrated. Just then, his assistant knocked on the door, saying, "Mr. Shen, the meeting materials are ready. You can head over now."
"Go ahead and get busy. Grandma will wait for you here."
Shen Yiran glanced at his watch, feeling quite helpless. He picked up a folder from the desk and left with his assistant.
Grandma said, "The two girls are well-educated and polite. He might just like one of them after meeting."
