Chapter 257 - 235: The Child Cannot Be Born
Chapter 257 - 235: The Child Cannot Be Born
Ten days after that entwined night, Xiaoxiao walked out of the school and got into a black sedan parked at the entrance. If it weren’t for Madam Gu coming to find her, she would have almost forgotten about this arrangement.
In the car, Madam Gu looked at her indifferently and asked, "Have you felt anything these days?"
Xiaoxiao slowly shook her head. During this period, apart from feeling a bit fatigued and low-spirited, she had no other reactions, so she had forgotten about it.
Since the hospitals in Mai City were basically all run by Dudu’s dad, who was her uncle, she dared not get checked there. If they found out she was pregnant, word would definitely get back to her family, and she would surely get scolded.
After returning to Shangcheng, they didn’t go to the Gu residence but drove directly to the hospital. Clearly, Madam Gu had connections, and took her straight to the examination room.
They had very little time, so they could only test the blood HCG, which didn’t require queuing. After drawing the blood and waiting outside, Xiaoxiao’s heart was all over the place.
Madam Gu was not a patient person. After bringing her here, she left, leaving an aunt to accompany her.
With her hand on her lower abdomen, she was not sure if a little life had arrived. If it had, what should she do?
Hoping at once that she wasn’t pregnant while also longing to give birth to his child, her conflicting thoughts ran rampant. The nurse came out and called her name, and the aunt went in with her.
"Shen Qiaoxiao?"
Xiaoxiao sat down on the opposite chair and nodded, "Yes."
"Congratulations, the test results show you are already pregnant. You need to follow up with nutrition, the mother’s body is slightly anemic, so pay extra attention. Have another check-up in half a month, and if there’s any abnormality during this period, come to the hospital immediately."
With the test results in hand, Xiaoxiao didn’t know whether to be happy.
She was now a mother, but she didn’t have the confidence to give her child a complete home.
Leaving the hospital, the aunt asked if she wanted to go back to the Gu residence. Xiaoxiao shook her head in refusal. Going back there would only remind her of his indifference and he likely wouldn’t want to see her anyway.
She went alone to the station, sat on the bus, and rested her hand on her lower abdomen. It felt like having this little life meant she wouldn’t feel too lonely, there would always be someone with her wherever she went.
Since the child was her choice, she would ensure that it would be born healthy. But she wouldn’t give the child to the Gu family. If Gu Moming disliked her so much, how could he cherish the child she gave birth to? She would keep the child with her, and it would become her everything.
When the aunt returned to the Gu residence and informed Madam Gu about the news, Gu Moming came back during lunch.
Recently, he had been staying at the company and hadn’t been in a hurry to leave home as before. After the death of Mr. Gu, only he could support the Gu family.
During this period, nobody had seen him in a good mood, and he barely exchanged a few words with anyone.
Seeing he had almost finished eating, Madam Gu spoke carefully, smiling, "Son, how are you adapting to work during this time?"
He merely answered with an "Hmm," clearly unwilling to talk more.
"Your foot has recovered well, I see you no longer use a crutch."
Gu Moming looked up at her with probing eyes as she usually didn’t ask him too many questions. Today, it was like she was making small talk, obviously having something to say.
Madam Gu smiled, knowing that Gu Moming had noticed, she picked up a napkin to wipe her mouth and said, "That girl Xiaoxiao is pregnant."
After saying that, she saw his brows furrow in displeasure and a harsh look in his eyes, clearly not wanting to keep the child.
"That girl is nice, and you were at fault that night. As a girl, she’s already at a disadvantage. Since there’s a child now, why don’t you let her give birth and settle down with her?"
Gu Moming put down his chopsticks and decisively said, "The child can’t be born. Where is she?"
Madam Gu’s face turned stern, asserting her authority, "The child is ultimately of our Gu family. Don’t even think about harming the child."
Gu Moming sneered coldly, with a hint of anger, "Did you even consider my feelings before doing all this? How much have you thought about me since I was little?"
"Son, Mom is also thinking of our Gu family. You’re my only son, and you haven’t settled down yet. If... if you hadn’t woken up from the car accident, our Gu family might have ended right there! Now it’s hard to have a child, continuing the lineage. It’s fine if you don’t like that girl, but we need the child."
Gu Moming’s chest heaved with anger. He vaguely understood that this might have been orchestrated by his mother.
But her concerns had some validity. However, thinking about how that woman and his mother did this behind his back made him uncomfortable.
Madam Gu watched his receding figure with a heavy heart, "Son, a woman who’s willing to give birth to your child without asking for anything in return, how much must she love you?"
Gu Moming paused for a moment, then continued to leave.
His heart was in turmoil, not knowing how to sort it out.
Xiaoxiao returned to school, skipping classes she didn’t want to attend. Her roommates were either in the library or out sketching. She’d been away for a month, and felt somewhat disconnected from them. She was already marginalized because of her unique status, and now it felt even worse.
Lying on the dormitory bed for a while, her mind went blank. With so many things on her mind, she didn’t know what to think about, which made her feel stifled.
She got up and went to the gallery, directly to Gu Qimiao’s studio.
She told her everything that had happened. Gu Qimiao was very surprised but couldn’t say who was right or wrong, "Does my brother know about the child?"
Xiaoxiao shook her head, "I don’t know... If he finds out, he definitely wouldn’t want the child."
"Do you want to give birth to the child?"
Xiaoxiao nodded, "I want to give birth to it and raise it myself."
Gu Qimiao sighed lightly. She didn’t know what to do either. It seemed silly, but if she were in Xiaoxiao’s situation, she might make the same choice.
She just felt bad for Xiaoxiao. Why couldn’t Gu Moming cherish this girl?
Somehow she had to speak to Gu Moming. Xiaoxiao did so much for him and now was met with his cold attitude—it was truly heartbreaking.
Moreover, every woman wants to have a stable environment and someone who loves her before having children. Xiaoxiao must have made this decision after a lot of inner struggle.
"Don’t tell my brother about this for now. I don’t want the family to worry. It’s just having a child, something every woman has to do; it shouldn’t be terrifying." Xiaoxiao comforted herself, but the more one says this, the more they are truly afraid inside.
