Chapter 219 - 197 Let Him Do the Confession
The gray Rolls-Royce drove through the night, Gu Qimiao looked out the window from the passenger seat, not saying a word.At the red light, Shen Yanchen glanced at her. She’d been acting strange since the afternoon, almost as if she had become distant with him. When he picked her up, she smiled politely, and after getting in the car, she didn’t sneak glances at him like she used to. Instead, she kept her gaze fixed on the window.
"Miaomiao."
She didn’t respond to his call, as if lost in thought. Shen Yanchen reached over and gently tapped her on the head, making her snap back and look at him with confusion.
"Not feeling well?" he asked.
Gu Qimiao forced a smile and shook her head, "No, I’m fine."
"You seem tired tonight."
Gu Qimiao made an excuse, "...Just a bit worn out from having fun."
Shen Yanchen looked at her skeptically, then refocused on the road as the light turned green, and they drove off.
At home, she seemed unusually awkward. She changed her shoes and immediately said she needed to take a shower and rest. Seeing it was already late, Shen Yanchen nodded.
A while later, he went to her door and found it locked, which was odd since she never locked her door.
He knocked twice, but she was probably in the bathroom and didn’t hear. Shen Yanchen, puzzled by her strange behavior, didn’t go for the key to open the door.
He took off his jacket, rolled up his shirt sleeves, and went to the kitchen to make a glass of jujube milk. Timing it just right, he went back to her door and knocked.
"Brother Yan Chen? What’s up?"
"Are you done?"
The lock turned, and she opened the door, but only stuck her head out to look at him.
Shen Yanchen glanced down at her. Despite her efforts to act normal, he easily sensed her unease. He nudged his way into the room slightly, and she stepped back.
He looked around the room but found nothing out of the ordinary.
Handing her the glass, he said, "Drink this and then go to sleep."
She took it and politely smiled, saying a quick "Thank you."
Shen Yanchen frowned at her restrained demeanor. She’d been fine just a few days ago. What had changed so suddenly?
He stared at her for a few seconds before she quickly looked away, not daring to meet his eyes, clearly avoiding him.
Pretending not to notice anything, he simply said, "Drink up and go to bed early."
"...Okay."
The next morning, she hadn’t eaten breakfast when she said she was going out to buy something. He offered to send her, but she refused.
She used to eagerly want to ride with him and go out together. Now, she kept refusing him.
At the office, she still hadn’t shown up. Unsure where she was, he couldn’t focus on work. He kept looking at his watch, knowing she usually arrived on time. There were ten minutes left until the usual start time.
After waiting and waiting, he finally heard footsteps by the door. He looked up, only to see He Ye entering: "Yan Chen, the meeting is about to start. Aren’t you coming?"
Shen Yanchen checked the time and said, "A few more minutes. You go ahead."
He Ye was taken aback. In his memory, Yan Chen was always early, never late.
Any odd behavior from him made He Ye think of Gu Qimiao, as she was the only one who could change this man.
Scanning the office, He Ye noticed the art room’s door was open but empty. Normally, the two arrived together. Seeing Yan Chen like this, He Ye guessed, "Did you two have a fight?"
Shen Yanchen glared up at him, making He Ye hastily leave, fearing he’d get thrown out.
On his way to the meeting room, Shen Yanchen suddenly turned back, took the elevator downstairs, and looked towards a certain spot near the publicity department.
Chen Jiatong was there, eating breakfast. She had a biscuit and a cup of plain water, gobbling it down and almost choking.
He Ye frowned, a pregnant woman not taking care of herself? Just biscuits and water?
She is carrying his child; he couldn’t risk his son’s health.
"Good morning, Deputy General Manager!" The employees arriving for work were used to seeing He Ye loitering near their department. They used to find it strange, but now he came by almost daily, sometimes three or four times a day.
He Ye kept a serious face, nodded, and that person was about to go in when He Ye pulled her to a corner and instructed, "Go to the cafeteria and buy some breakfast, bring it to Chen Jiatong."
The person looked confused, but He Ye was already pulling money from his wallet: "Buy the best."
Accepting the money, the employee wondered about the relationship between Jiajia and the deputy GM. He always came to look at her and now ordered breakfast too?
She was about to ask when He Ye said, "Don’t tell her it’s from me. I don’t want anyone else to know about this."
She nodded, feeling it was an honor to do a favor for the deputy GM.
He Ye, noticing it was nearly time for the meeting, glanced at that spot again before leaving.
Upstairs, Shen Yanchen was just on time for the meeting, but Gu Qimiao still hadn’t arrived. As he speculated about the reasons while heading out, something bumped into his chest. Looking down, he felt relieved but kept a cold expression, asking, "You’re here?"
Gu Qimiao quickly took two steps back, nodding with a smile.
She was carrying bags filled with art supplies.
"I was restocking some paints at the market..." like she was explaining why she was late.
Shen Yanchen nodded, saying, "I’m off to the meeting. My desk is cleared for you."
Gu Qimiao nodded, stepping aside to let him pass, "Go ahead."
Only after giving her a couple more looks did he walk away.
After he left, Gu Qimiao entered the office, hesitating as she approached his desk. She noticed his drawer was still unlocked!
She stood there in indecision, finally deciding not to snoop. The more she knew, the more it would hurt.
Inside were all his words of love for another woman. It wasn’t that he wasn’t affectionate; he just saved his tender words for that woman.
With a sigh, she took her supplies to her art room, shutting herself in to paint, avoiding thoughts of things that upset her.
As soon as the meeting ended, Shen Yanchen returned to find she wasn’t at her usual spot by his desk, as if intentionally keeping a distance, especially after she mentioned wanting to move back to the gallery yesterday.
Why would she hide if she liked him?
It seemed waiting for her to express her feelings was impossible. She might avoid him forever. Instead of progress, she was just starting to avoid him more.
He couldn’t wait any longer. He’d have to confess himself.
Once decided, another issue arose: how should he confess?
