Chapter 215 - 193: Missing You More with Each Passing Year
Gu Qimiao went to the hospital with Xiaoxiao in the morning. When she saw Mo Ming lying on the bed, he appeared thinner than the last time she saw him, but there were no other noticeable changes.Xiaoxiao sat by the bed, holding Mo Ming’s hand, and smiled contentedly at Gu Qimiao. "Honestly, this isn’t too bad. At least I can be with him every day. When he wakes up... he’ll probably chase me away again."
"Xiaoxiao, don’t think like that. If he knew you were taking care of him in the hospital, his view of you would definitely change."
"It doesn’t really matter anymore. I just want him to be alright. Even if he continues to dislike me as much as before, I don’t mind."
"Ding ding—" Gu Qimiao’s phone rang in her pocket, and Xiaoxiao said, "It’s definitely my big brother again. Gigi, you should go. I’ll take care of things here."
Gu Qimiao pulled her phone out and said, "It’s okay, I’ll chat with you for a bit. He’s my brother; I should be the one taking care of him. You’ve done enough."
"Gigi, we’re family. There’s no need to say things like that. Just answer the phone before my big brother starts nagging you."
Gu Qimiao answered the call, wondering what he wanted. He said, "Come down, I’m at the entrance."
"At the hospital?!"
"Hurry up, I don’t like waiting."
He hung up right after. Gu Qimiao quickly explained the situation to Xiaoxiao and headed downstairs.
Wasn’t he having a meeting at the company this morning? How did he end up here?
As soon as she reached downstairs, she saw his car parked by the roadside. He was sitting inside, his gaze never leaving her.
Gu Qimiao opened the car door and got in, looking at him as she asked, "Weren’t you at the company?"
"Here to have lunch with you. Seatbelt."
Gu Qimiao quickly fastened her seatbelt. Without saying much more, he drove off. She secretly delighted in her heart. He came all the way here to have lunch with her, even if it was just to show off, she was happy.
Due to time constraints, they didn’t return to Mai City. Neither of them was very familiar with this area, even though they had lived here before. After all, nearly twenty years had passed, and much had changed.
Not knowing where to eat, Shen Yanchen randomly stopped at a restaurant.
Gu Qimiao didn’t mind. As long as he was around, she would be satisfied regardless of what or where they ate.
Once inside and upon seeing the menu, she realized it was a Cantonese restaurant. Shen Yanchen, due to his pride, awkwardly pretended to know and ordered a few dishes at random.
Both of them liked spicy food. Seeing the bland dishes being served, Shen Yanchen slightly frowned.
Out on business dinners, he could compromise with any type of cuisine. If it wasn’t appetizing, he would eat less. But accompanying her for lunch and making her eat something she disliked would leave a negative impression, wouldn’t it?
As expected, she didn’t eat much aside from a plate of stuffed tofu. She barely touched the meat dishes.
Shen Yanchen stood up, didn’t ask if she was full and said, "Let’s go."
Gu Qimiao quickly stood up, wiping her mouth with a napkin as she followed him. After paying the bill, he said at the door, "This place’s food isn’t that great. We’ll try somewhere else next time."
"... Actually, it was okay, quite good."
Shen Yanchen naturally understood she was being polite. Seeing her eat spicy hotpot in comparison, she clearly wasn’t a fan of the dishes here.
"Tonight I’ll take you to eat spicy hotpot."
Gu Qimiao’s eyes curved with a smile as she tilted her head to ask, "Do you like it?"
He raised his eyebrows and said, "It’s alright."
She always thought he only dined at high-end hotels and fancy restaurants. She didn’t expect he also liked spicy hotpot.
Feeling happy, she suddenly remembered something and said, "Tonight won’t work. I promised Dudu I’d join her at a gathering."
"What kind of gathering?"
"Not sure, she just called me last night."
Shen Yanchen paused and said, "Okay, let me know the location when it’s confirmed. I’ll come to pick you up afterwards."
"We’ll see. If you have work at night, I can manage on my own."
Shen Yanchen didn’t respond. What work is more important than her? It’s not all about timing; it’s about intention.
The gathering wouldn’t start for a while, so Gu Qimiao followed Shen Yanchen back to his company.
"Take a nap this afternoon. I have a meeting."
"Okay, you go ahead."
After sleeping briefly in the car, she wasn’t particularly tired. She went to her studio and started working on illustrations based on the landscapes they photographed in Czech. Shen Yanchen suggested piecing them together into one panoramic artwork.
As the paper was large and her studio wasn’t spacious enough, she moved her art supplies outside, spreading them across his desk.
He kept his things impeccably organized, placing them exactly where he took them from. No matter how busy he was, his desk remained tidy. This made Gu Qimiao feel a bit ashamed.
She spread out the paper and began mixing paints on the palette, focused and painting for over an hour, before feeling some back pain.
She poured herself a cup of water and sat in his chair to rest, casually observing his workspace. She noticed a small drawer in the bottom right corner slightly ajar. She remembered this box was always locked. She had been curious about its contents multiple times.
The drawer was small, not big enough for his secret documents. She couldn’t imagine what he might hide inside.
She glanced at the door. No one seemed likely to come in. She decided to sneak a peek.
She lowered her head and pulled open the drawer.
It revealed a notebook with a black cover. It looked ordinary, similar to ones seen everywhere.
She reached in, taking out the notebook. Underneath was a metal box, which she didn’t look at immediately. She just took out the notebook, crouched on the floor behind the desk, and opened it.
The first few pages were filled with notes, written neatly and clearly in his beautiful handwriting. However, Gu Qimiao couldn’t understand any of it.
She felt puzzled. Why lock a notebook so securely? There must be some secrets within.
Unable to resist, she flipped through two more pages. They contained professional terms she couldn’t comprehend.
A bit panicked, she froze and quickly scanned through the notebook. Suddenly, she noticed something odd in the middle.
Unlike the dense notes before, the writing here filled the middle of the page, bigger than usual.
She flipped back and saw a line of text: "I miss you more every year."
Gu Qimiao was stunned, touching the firm handwriting and confirming it was his. However, this kind of message didn’t seem like something he would say—like a love note.
Who could this be written for?
Her heart raced with both fear and excitement. She hastily flipped through the notebook...
