Chapter 1737 1737: Xue Mingtang

Chapter 1737 1737: Xue Mingtang

Forget it, better not to overthink, wait for Zhou Tong to return and talk about it then.

The most important thing now is to find a manager. I'll look for Xue Mingtang tomorrow, though I really don't know if it will succeed.

But over the years, countless people have tried to find Xue Mingtang, and none have succeeded. Who knows what mysterious ties are involved.

If Xue Mingtang takes a management position, he might have his own thoughts on whether to open a branch.

Xue Mingtang is currently secluded in a mountain at the border between the Capital City and Beichuan, and who knows what's inside that mountain.

It's something that can trap a living person for so many years.

Early the next morning, Ling Zhenfei got up. He had booked a morning train ticket for a place called Sanhe Town to find Xue Mingtang.

Boarding the train from the Capital City, heading into the interior.

Although the Capital City is considered the largest city on the great land of China, even the largest city has times when you leave the bustle behind.

The train headed north from the Capital City for about half an hour before finally entering the continuous mountains.

These mountains are covered with endless trees, including ancient towering ones that have no telling how many years they've stood.

The mountains here are clearly still a bit cold, and from a distance, you can even see snow on some peaks.

Here, the temperature started to drop, and it felt slightly chilly.

Ling Zhenfei suddenly recalled that the research institute of Su Yuwei and her father should be in these mountains.

Nearby, you should be able to see the Great Wall, and sure enough, just as he thought about it, it appeared.

The Great Wall snakes over these high mountain ridges like a giant dragon.

The train wove through the mountains below, across hills, bridges, and tunnels, causing the light inside the train to fluctuate.

Because the train was below, looking up at the Great Wall, its majesty and splendor were even more impressive.

Even though it wasn't his first time seeing the Great Wall, it was still astonishing.

The train continued winding through the mountains, but after passing through, the Great Wall was out of sight, leaving only endless mountains and distant tunnels to be seen.

After who knows how long, the train finally stopped.

Ling Zhenfei, wearing a mask, hat, and glasses, got off the train.

The train station platform was very small, and only three or four people got off.

The signs on the platform saying "Sanhe Town" confirmed to Ling Zhenfei that he had come to the right place.

But Sanhe Town was just a town, and Ling Zhenfei needed to get to a small village called Official Hat Village, whose name alone suggested it wasn't a major place.

Among those who got off with Ling Zhenfei were three older people and a very young girl.

Maybe because of growing up in the mountains, this girl looked quite water spirit-like.

Ling Zhenfei approached her: "Hello miss, may I ask you a question, do you know how to get to Official Hat Village? Is there a car outside?"

The girl curiously glanced at the heavily bundled person and said, "Official Hat Village, what are you going there for?"

Ling Zhenfei replied: "I'm going to find someone."

Though the girl was pretty, she seemed a bit down and even had a hint of melancholy in her eyes, reasons unknown.

The girl said: "Once you exit the train station, there are some illegal taxis. Just ask one, and if the price is right, they'll take you close to Official Hat Village."

"Alright, thank you so much."

Thanking her, Ling Zhenfei headed outside the train station.

At the exit, there was a map of Sanhe Town, but Ling Zhenfei couldn't find Official Hat Village after searching for a long time.

He was shocked at how small Official Hat Village could be, to not even appear on the map.

Outside the train station, just as the girl mentioned, there were rows of unlicensed taxis.

As he approached, a man immediately greeted him, speaking in the local Beichuan dialect: "Brother, where are you headed? I'll give you a ride."

Ling Zhenfei asked; "Is there an Official Hat Village around here, how do I get there?"

The man's face showed reluctance upon hearing this.

"Brother, why are you going so far? Official Hat Village is really far and the road is bad. How about you give me three hundred yuan."

Three hundred yuan, Ling Zhenfei was unsure how far Official Hat Village really was and had no idea about the fare.

"Sir, does three hundred take me directly to Official Hat Village?"

The man replied: "Only to the entrance of Official Hat Village because there's no road for cars inside."

Ling Zhenfei said, "Alright then."

Just as he was about to agree to the ride, he suddenly heard someone behind him say, "How could you be so greedy, asking for three hundred to go to Official Hat Village?"

Startled, Ling Zhenfei turned around to see the girl he had asked for directions earlier.

The girl, carrying her luggage, stepped over and placed it by Ling Zhenfei's side, then said to the driver, "Are you trying to overcharge this person because it's their first time here?"

The driver had nothing to say to this accusation as the girl turned to Ling Zhenfei and said: "Come with me. These drivers are really unscrupulous."

With that, she picked up her luggage and led the way, and Ling Zhenfei followed her.

After they walked a distance, a driver on the road called out.

"Qiaoqiao, you're back?"

The girl said: "Uncle Li, I'm back. Could you give us a lift again?"

The man, addressed as Uncle Li, glanced at Ling Zhenfei and asked: "Who's this?"

Qiaoqiao said: "He's with me, we're together."

Uncle Li laughed: "Your boyfriend?"

Qiaoqiao didn't respond, but opened the car door for Ling Zhenfei.

So Ling Zhenfei got in the car, and Qiaoqiao got in too.

Uncle Li drove away to the distance.

It was a very worn-out van, with air leaking in from all sides and components rattling everywhere. Ling Zhenfei doubted if Uncle Li could hear him over the noise.

Qiaoqiao explained: "I didn't clarify earlier, afraid you'd get scammed, so I hurried out to stop you. If I'd been a bit later, you'd have fallen for it."

Ling Zhenfei said: "Thank you so much. Are you also going to Official Hat Village?"

Qiaoqiao replied: "I'm going to Yanghe Village, which is similar, though. The villages are close, but only Yanghe Village is accessible by car.

To get to Official Hat Village, you have to start walking from Yanghe Village."

From Qiaoqiao's explanation, Ling Zhenfei understood that Official Hat Village was so small that the government had relocated most of its people to integrate with other villages like Yanghe Village.

However, a dozen or so households didn't want to leave, even though Official Hat Village no longer existed administratively.
