Chapter 2343 - 2344: Holy City
Chapter 2343 - 2344: Holy City
These peaks, suspected to be the Kashantos Holy Mountain, stand quietly on the snowy plain, with a pale blue, glass-like dome covering the sky.
Feng Yuan suspected that there might already be a special barrier set up to isolate them from external intrusion, or were they in a secluded state?
"This dome should have the ability to adjust the climate, so why haven’t they activated it?"
Veronia looked at the glass-like dome overhead, puzzled. No matter how she looked at it, it seemed similar to the special domes she knew, which were capable of adjusting internal climate and environmental data.
"Maybe it’s to help them adapt to the special weather here?"
Feng Yuan said offhandedly, though he didn’t really think that was the case. Seeing that they even had lanterns to navigate the snow, adapting shouldn’t be an issue.
Veronia chuckled lightly and said
"Perhaps."
The caravan was slowly advancing up the winding mountain path. The floating wooden carts moving on the stone-paved steps surprised Feng Yuan and the others.
They hadn’t noticed any issues with the wooden carts and were shocked to see such a hidden function.
As for whether it was the stone-paved road itself that was strange, Feng Yuan thought it wasn’t likely, because it wouldn’t be necessary. This mountain path was very long, better to modify the carts rather than transforming the whole mountain road to make vehicles float.
The floating wooden carts easily moved up the steps, and Feng Yuan suspected the setup was to prevent outsiders from using vehicles to transport goods up the mountain.
Even though the wooden carts were unaffected, their advance along the winding and rugged mountain path was still slow. Feng Yuan chose to ride on the back of the White Wolf Deity, as he had no interest in climbing this wretched mountain.
Feng Yuan had considered rushing ahead along the road to reach the city, but seeing the change in the wooden carts, he decided to follow them. Who knows what might change along the way.
And Feng Yuan’s suspicion proved right. Midway up the mountain, the caravan didn’t continue up the steps but instead stopped at a platform to kneel and pray before a large rock.
With a rumble, a passage suddenly opened in the rock wall beside them, and Feng Yuan said, speechless,
"They sure have plenty of tricks."
Feng Yuan hadn’t expected these people to keep pulling tricks, or rather, to be so excessively wary of outsiders.
With the technological prowess of the Kashantuosi Remnants, was this really necessary?
Unable to understand, Feng Yuan had no choice but to have the White Wolf Deity and Kong Qing distort space, otherwise they would have no way to chase into the cave.
Yet this high-level subspace distortion made staying inside quite uncomfortable.
"How bothersome, if not for fear of losing clues by startling them, I’d rather follow openly behind them."
Unable to repress his annoyance, Feng Yuan tightly grasped the White Wolf Deity’s snowy fur.
Once the subspace contracted, its appearance was more like a basketball, controlling the subspace to move with the caravan as Feng Yuan curiously observed the cave.
Unlike conventional rock tunnels, this tunnel wasn’t particularly spacious, but neither was it narrow.
At least the wooden carts could pass through with relative ease.
The entire cave tunnel seemed composed of solid ice, and the translucent ice crystals shimmered with exotic colors under the lantern’s light.
This winding passage didn’t ascend, but after several turns vanished onto a circular platform.
The circular platform was composed of ancient giant stones, the stone engraved with numerous patterns related to Kashantos. Familiar with Kashantos history, Feng Yuan and others immediately recognized them as famous historical events.
At the platform’s edge were evenly spaced five stone pillars, carved with Kashantos script. According to Veronia’s translation, they seemed to be words praising the Sacred Mountain.
The caravan halted here and didn’t bow as before, instead checking if any goods were missing from the carts. After inventorying, the caravan leader took out a small stone and waved it.
The stone emitted a yellow-brown glow, the ground trembled slightly, the entrance was sealed by a falling slab, and the circular platform slowly ascended with the caravan.
The elevator-like structure didn’t surprise Feng Yuan and the others; they had guessed its function, otherwise, it couldn’t simply be another Space Gate node?
That would be more than cautious; it’d be comical.
Because within the Sacred Mountain zone, space movement was forbidden, if a Space Gate node could be set up, it would mean the Sacred Mountain was fake.
Given the Kashantos people’s faith in the Sacred Mountain, how could they take the Sacred Mountain lightly?
Even this subspace concealment was fortified by Feng Yuan using the Ancient Book to avoid being countered by defensive measures.
The elevator ascent didn’t last long; soon, blinding light streamed down as the platform stopped within a dome-shaped hall.
On the hall’s spherical dome, murals depicted historical vignettes of Kashantos, the platform encircled by a ring of white stone pillars adorned with various Divine Creatures.
These were once Kashantos Divine Beasts, though some fell during wars, others vanished in the Great Destruction, and just how many survived with the Kashantos Remnants to the present was unknown.
The caravan scattered after the platform steadied, some pulling goods to a nearby warehouse, others heading out of the hall.
"Kaltokal City?"
Veronia felt she recognized the place; seemed unchanged from the mythical era Kashantos Holy City?
"What’s that?"
Agunas asked Veronia in puzzlement, as if unfamiliar with the name. Veronia chuckled lightly and said
"The Holy City during the war’s end, though not meaningful, perhaps because they crafted it into a turtle shell back then that preserves it now."
"Are you saying this was once Kashantos’s Holy City?"
Agunas wagged its tail in astonishment at Veronia, who nodded and said while observing the hall
"Exactly, this was once the Hall of Holy Rites; before the Divine Beings set out, they would tidy up here."
"It’s hard to believe that the Hall of Holy Rites has become like this, truly, unbelievable."
"The former Holy City..."
Unlike the reflective Veronia, Agunas felt only a persistent chill. Being the core facility of Kashantos, that this escaped the Great Destruction?
"It should be heavily damaged, besides, the Divine Beings should be gone. After all, unlike Divine Creatures, they aren’t sheltered by world rules."
Feng Yuan glanced at Agunas and said, could the Kashantos Holy City be fully preserved? He did not believe it.
Even intact, it meant little; Divine Beings couldn’t have survived until now, longevity was a severe issue, not to mention world rules no longer allowed Divine Beings, unless they accepted their descendants being ordinary, otherwise...
"They should be gone. For those proud beings to accept mediocrity seems impossible."
Veronia scoffed and appeared indifferent; to her, the state of Divine Beings was irrelevant.
Once the subspace left the hall, it finally restored to normal size; this was a city both ruined and ancient, the crumbling remains seeming to narrate history to the world.
"This city is rather severely damaged? Wait, isn’t that a new city? Have they preserved the old city while building a new one?"
Initially, Feng Yuan thought these people lived among the ruins, but following the caravan’s movement he was amazed to spot another new city nearby.
Though it lacked the grandeur of the old city, at least it was intact.
Just as Feng Yuan and others stepped out of the hall, in the new city, a man dressed as a High Priest slowly opened his eyes and suspiciously looked towards the Hall of Holy Rites.
After a moment’s hesitation, he picked up the Scepter and slowly walked out of the Sanctuary, puzzled by the arrival of unexpected visitors.
