Chapter 1874 - 1875: Facing Head-On

Chapter 1874 - 1875: Facing Head-On

"I don’t think splitting up is a good choice, even though we can identify identities, but..."

Najia thought for a moment before speaking. It didn’t think that such a choice, which would only increase suspicion, was correct. Moreover, there was no point in doing so.

"Hmm, I guess so, but... never mind. I’ll take a look at the door later, you guys wait outside."

Gently tapping his chin with his index finger, Feng Yuan hesitated and said. He did want to try and see what was really going on here. Veronia glanced at Feng Yuan suspiciously and asked,

"What do you want to do?"

"To confirm whether that thing truly constitutes a rule error."

Saying that, Feng Yuan carried Xiao Ji, opened the door, and walked in. This room was different from the ones everyone had entered before, with walls covered in various frantic graffiti, and colorful fragments scattered on the floor, looking like they had been violently destroyed by some frenzied existence.

"Strange, why does this place seem a bit..."

Rubbing his chin, Feng Yuan looked at the only window in the room, where sunlight fell from a small window located near the ceiling on the upper part of the wall. The small window was barred with iron rods and was barely large enough for one to extend a hand through. To Feng Yuan, this place felt like it was used to confine something.

Just then, the door behind him slowly began to close. However, not only did Veronia and the others, who were guarding outside the door, notice it first and take action, but the black-robed shadow behind Feng Yuan also moved simultaneously.

A peculiar soul body was seized by the black-robed shadow. Yang Hongzhi was stunned looking at the soul struggling in the shadow’s hands. He didn’t expect that what Feng Yuan summoned could actually touch a soul body.

Najia and Veronia weren’t surprised by this. What puzzled them was, how did the Abnormal Space come to have a soul body? This was not something the major domains that made up the Abnormal Space were capable of.

"It seems there are really a lot of issues with this place."

Walking out of the room, scrutinizing the soul body held by the black-robed shadow, Feng Yuan said with a serious expression. The soul body was not an illusion, meaning the Abnormal Space, for some reason, possessed an ability it shouldn’t have—creating spirits from nothing, an ability belonging only to the Netherworld and specific attribute Spirit Beasts.

Even Divine Beasts, except for certain attributes, hardly possess this ability. Feng Yuan was certain that none of the domains comprising the Abnormal Space had any related world rules.

"The mastermind behind the scenes is quite formidable, having rules related to souls."

Veronia said this while looking at Feng Yuan. It’s no wonder it was suspicious of the other party. Involving souls was not something an ordinary person could touch. But, Feng Yuan should have checked carefully. Could it be, an enemy from the Outer World?

The suddenly appearing soul body raised many questions for everyone. After all, it wasn’t something a normal Abnormal Space could manifest. However, despite the questions, they had to suppress them for the time being, as the most important thing was to deal with the research lab of the Mad Doctor first.

"Have you guys guessed anything? About this place."

Touching his chin, Feng Yuan seemed to understand something as he looked at Veronia and the others. Yang Hongzhi frowned and, after thinking for a bit, said,

"Are you suggesting this place is related to the Netherworld?"

"Of course not, why would you think that?"

"This special soul shouldn’t be fake, right? Surely it can’t be a wandering spirit snatched from the Netherworld, right?"

Pointing at the soul body held by the black-robed shadow, Yang Hongzhi spoke in confusion. The soul body appeared to have no consciousness of its own, and from its vague features, it seemed it hadn’t walked the human world, which indicated that the soul body might have just been created recently.

Feng Yuan shrugged helplessly and said,

"I am not sure about that, but for now, we don’t have the energy to study how the Abnormal Space managed to grasp the authority to create souls. What I mean is, don’t you have any thoughts about this Mad Doctor’s research lab?"

"Different Space, and this enemy different from the metal transformation, do you mean... the real enemy is in a Different Space here? But, apart from anything else, how are we supposed to find it?"

Veronia seemed to understand Feng Yuan’s idea and spoke. Yet, in this place, their abilities were restricted, and there was no God Beast among them related to space, so they couldn’t capture that hidden Different Space.

Of course, with the habit of this Abnormal Space, unless due to its own rule defects, there was usually no unsolvable level. However, for now, the information and intel they had were not sufficient to face the source of the epidemic head-on.

"Do you remember the unique scrutiny against Beast Tamers inside those mechanism rooms?"

Looking at Yang Hongzhi, Feng Yuan placed his hand on Xiao Ji’s head and said. Realizing something, Yang Hongzhi exclaimed in shock,

"You want to use Xiao Ji as bait?!"

"No, I won’t let Xiao Ji take the risk."

Shaking his head, Feng Yuan said decisively. Xiao Ji rubbed its head against Feng Yuan’s hand, spread its wings, and let out a cry. Veronia glanced at Xiao Ji and translated,

"It says it can do it, but, even so... it’s not a good choice."

"That’s not what I meant. I was asking, what do you think is the source of that strange gaze?"

Rolling his eyes, Feng Yuan said irritably. Why did they always make wild assumptions about what he would do? Xiao Ji rubbed against Feng Yuan, letting out a cry to show its determination. Although... there might be temporary separation, it felt it could endure it, as long as it could help Feng Yuan.

Pressing down on Xiao Ji’s head, Feng Yuan said helplessly,

"Do you still remember those specimen jars in the room? If those things are connected to the Different Space and we take them out, will there be any changes?"

"Specimen jars... wait!"

With Feng Yuan’s reminder, everyone recalled the issues within those jars. If the metal organs inside were transformed from living bodies, how did they maintain activity after leaving the main body?

They hadn’t forgotten the complete stasis of life activities in the Metal Rhinoceros after its soul was slain, indicating that the metal organs might have a special connection with their original form.

However, there was no such record in the metal transformation archive, meaning that the metal transformation epidemic could not grant such unique characteristics to that thing.

"You suspect that thing is related to the origin of the epidemic?"

Yang Hongzhi asked Feng Yuan. For now, the possibility wasn’t small, and they didn’t have any other clues.

"Probably. Although we don’t know what the original pass mechanism here was like, as long as we don’t act with power beyond the rules, it shouldn’t cause too much chaos."

Nodding, Feng Yuan said as he led Xiao Ji into the nearest room. When he picked up a specimen jar with a pair of metal eyeballs and was about to leave the room, the space behind the door changed.

"Just as expected!"

At that moment, the space behind the door became a magnificent Starry Sky. Among this Star Ocean, they saw a massive liquid metal amalgamation clawing towards them. Additionally, they saw many floating documents and books.

"Didn’t expect to be right."

Veronia exclaimed in surprise and stepped forward, waving her hand. The Crystal Rose extended and spread, quickly entwining the floating files in the Starry Sky and pulling them back.

Moreover, Veronia took the opportunity to attack the massive metal amalgamation. However, whether its defense was too high or due to its uniqueness, Veronia’s attack didn’t cause it any harm.

"It seems this thing may be a part of its body, but why would it be placed in a specimen jar here?"

Noticing the increased activity in the metal eyeballs within the specimen jar, Feng Yuan spoke thoughtfully. Veronia replied with a wry smile,

"Whatever it is, the truth, isn’t it already in your hands?"

Seeing the files that Veronia brought back, Feng Yuan smiled and said,

"Indeed, now what needs to be done..."

Moving away from the doorway with the specimen jar, they saw the Starry Sky quickly fade away, eventually revealing the previous hallway. Everything that just happened seemed like an illusion, with only the pile of documents on the ground proving the changes that just occurred.
