Capítulo 1642: Chapter 1643: Jingming Divine Monkey

The Jingming Divine Monkey didn’t have a strong reaction to Feng Yuan’s decision to call a group of people over. Although it felt this might not be the most appropriate approach, considering what Veronia had told it about Feng Yuan’s character, it wasn’t all that surprising. Besides, as a Martial Dao Divine Beast, cultivating the mind was naturally an important practice too.

“Isn’t it a bit inappropriate for us to do this…”

Seeing Feng Yuan coming empty-handed, Qi Chen couldn’t help but whisper. Feng Yuan, chuckling, replied nonchalantly,

“It’s no problem. Even if we bring gifts, what could we possibly bring? What doesn’t the Jingming Divine Monkey have? Even if it’s lacking something, it’s not something you could manage to get. We’re just meeting and greeting; it’s unnecessary.”

Feng Yuan was capable of bringing gifts that could move the Jingming Divine Monkey, but the problem was, they were merely visiting and not hoping for the monkey’s help. Bringing such expensive gifts, he felt, would be strange. The Jingming Divine Monkey would likely feel uneasy as well.

Keeping the gift feels too heavy, especially since it can’t do anything in return. But not accepting it might seem lacking in sincerity. To avoid trouble, Feng Yuan simply brought nothing. Dou Yanlan chuckled at this, shook her head, and stopped Feng Yuan. Instead of buying anything, she asked Ah Mu.

After getting Ah Mu’s confirmation, Dou Yanlan smiled slightly and asked Qi Chen to weave the vine rings sprouted by Ah Mu into a basket. Qi Chen was at a loss since he didn’t know how to do it, but Dou Yanlan patiently taught him step by step at the side. Eating his snacks, Feng Yuan commented,

“Are you planning to give it a Baiyu Flower basket?”

Due to the Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts not being fully healed, Ah Mu’s Baiyu Flowers remained. This made Ah Mu look quite unique with its tree crown still blooming with little white flowers, unlike the other Giant Tree Demons.

The Flower Leaf Tree Three Spirit Beasts, perched on the tree crown, noticed the actions of the two and hopped over to Qi Chen, even though these three little fellows were very weak, lacking any combat power. Yet, under their influence, the completed basket by Qi Chen seemed like a natural craft.

The basket, originally irregular due to Qi Chen’s lack of skill, under the contrast of fresh buds and flowers, appeared as if these vines had grown naturally. Picking Baiyu Flowers from Ah Mu’s crown to place in the basket, Dou Yanlan handed it over to Feng Yuan saying,

“How about giving this later?”

“Why don’t you guys give it later? There’s no need for me to do so.”

Feng Yuan did not participate in its making, and he didn’t plan to give it to the Jingming Divine Monkey, not out of dissatisfaction, but to avoid misunderstanding. If he had to present it, he would have to explain to the monkey, which would be troublesome for him.

Rather than that, he thought it better for Qi Chen and the others to deliver it, ensuring the Jingming Divine Monkey wouldn’t misunderstand that he made it. As for establishing a good relationship with the monkey, Feng Yuan wasn’t concerned. Being a Divine Beast, it likely understood his intentions and wouldn’t be offended by the absence of a gift.

While tasting the tea pastries, Veronia looked curiously at the cross-legged Jingming Divine Monkey and said,

“These desserts here are quite exquisite. Were they specially made for you?”

“Not at all. Making food with care is also a form of cultivation.”

“But don’t humans need to cultivate martial arts, right?”

Upon hearing Veronia’s words, the Jingming Divine Monkey looked at her with a strange smile and said,

“What makes you think the ones making the pastries are humans?”

“Otherwise? It couldn’t be Spirit Beasts, right? Or perhaps your clan?”

“Not so. Those Contemplative Spirit Monkeys wanted to follow the path of the Seer Spirit Monkey, and cultivating the mind is necessary homework for them.”

“Seer Spirit Monkeys?”

Stunned for a moment, Veronia curiously studied her companion and said,

“Are you grooming some Seer Spirit Monkeys?”

“Not exactly, but they have the potential and interest. Whether they can walk that path, perhaps no one knows until the truth is revealed.”

Shaking its head, the Jingming Divine Monkey spoke; being of the same monkey species as Spirit Beasts, it would naturally not be stingy with guidance. However, the Seer Spirit Monkey line follows a path of fighting combined with telekinesis, unlike the Order Spirit Monkey. But truthfully, when it comes down to it, they are on par in terms of strength.

The difference is that the Order Spirit Monkey does not need to comprehend the world, only recognizing and understanding order. Its means are somewhat lacking compared to the Seer Spirit Monkey. The evolution path of the Seer Spirit Monkey is much tougher; even if both have roughly equal strength, there would be definite advantages in other aspects. Evolution among Spirit Beasts is fundamentally fair; overcoming significant challenges to evolve into a special form should be superior to a form that’s more easily acquired.

While Veronia slowly savored her tea pastries, Feng Yuan and his group also arrived at the tea room provided by Yufeng Academy. At first, seeing the cross-legged Jingming Divine Monkey, Feng Yuan thought it was a person, but upon closer inspection realized it was a monkey-shaped Spirit Beast.

Noticing Veronia sitting nearby, reminiscing, Feng Yuan sniffed and said,

“Did you guys just eat here?”

“Isn’t it obvious from the trays that still haven’t been cleared?”

Rolling her eyes, Veronia retorted irritably. With a chuckle, Feng Yuan said,

“Was it tasty?”

Qi Chen patted Feng Yuan on the shoulder to signal him not to talk nonsense. Dou Yanlan, holding the basket, stepped forward and spoke a few words to the Jingming Divine Monkey. The monkey, in meditation, slowly opened its eyes and examined Dou Yanlan with curiosity. The phrase she had just said, that she required no favors from it and that this was just a token gift, did not carry any dishonesty in its perception.

Its Martial Dao provided it with a profound ability to discern lies, so insincere words couldn’t escape it. However, it didn’t expect that Feng Yuan’s friend would have little interest in it. Even at Yufeng Academy, many students and even teachers aspired to be associated with it.

Yet, Dou Yanlan’s gifting was merely out of concern for appearing rude, which it found rather amusing.

“Do you want to have a bout with me?”

Noticing Xiao Ji staring at it with an eagerness that almost materialized into battle intent, the Jingming Divine Monkey asked in confusion. It was clear about Xiao Ji’s condition, yet-undeveloped Divine Beast-level Spirit Beast. In its eyes, Xiao Ji was merely an infant Divine Beast.

Apart from having a slightly peculiar attribute, it didn’t see what strength Xiao Ji could pose as an opponent, not even suitable for guidance.

“Shouldn’t you let it understand the gap in strength?”

Scratching his head, Feng Yuan hesitated for a bit before saying. He truly doubted Xiao Ji had any chance, the Jingming Divine Monkey shook its head and said,

“No, having a goal is a good thing, even if it’s set unwisely. Its focus shouldn’t be set too far.”

It wasn’t that it dismissed Xiao Ji being unable to challenge it in the future. After all, as a Death Series Divine Beast, it inherently had some advantages over Martial Dao Divine Beasts. Unfortunately, one significant trait of Martial Dao Divine Beasts is their tough physique. However, to the Death Series, their decaying life force was exceptionally tough on flesh, not to mention the death-series Divine Beast’s capability to directly assault the soul.

Despite cultivating the mind and having a strong soul, enduring a direct soul-aimed ultimate move attack was not realistic.

As for teaching Xiao Ji a lesson, it didn’t see any wrong on its part. After all, is it truly wise to see an apparently formidable enemy and wisely choose to avoid it?

Flapping its wings, Xiao Ji was unmoved, even provocatively calling at the Jingming Divine Monkey. Seeing this, the monkey sighed helplessly and said,

“It seems it’s quite, perhaps a bit dull.”

“So, sorry for the trouble then~”

Pressing Xiao Ji’s head, Feng Yuan said amusedly. Slowly standing up, the Jingming Divine Monkey bowed and said,

“Please follow me, there’s a designated combat area over here.”

“Is that your training ground?”

Veronia asked curiously, having thought of something, looking at the Jingming Divine Monkey. The latter didn’t respond, its monkey tail gently swaying, Agunas remarked with confusion,

“Do you train Yufeng Academy’s students regularly?”

“Only occasionally when I see one or two promising ones worth guiding once or twice. That’s my exchange with them.”

The Jingming Divine Monkey stated without looking back, but the group wasn’t particularly convinced. After all, despite being a special Martial Dao Divine Beast, its guidance couldn’t be genuinely considered a transaction. However, they were immediately distracted by the unique combat area upon arriving there.
