Capítulo 1640: Chapter 1641: The Stalkers
Exiting the station, Feng Yuan glanced at the map and led the group directly to the bus stop. Dou Yanlan furrowed her brow, looking at Feng Yuan with concern and asked,
“Where are you planning to go?”
“To the hotel, of course. I already booked it. Don’t worry, I didn’t use any special credentials. Though there are a lot of people here, it’s not yet impossible to find accommodation.”
Understanding the other’s concern, Feng Yuan smiled and said. While Yufeng City’s Freshmen Challenge Tournament would attract quite a few participants, its influence was limited. At most, people from nearby cities and counties would come. As for other faraway cities? Those people aren’t likely to spend so much time coming here.
“The location of the Jingming Divine Monkey seems to be right at Yufeng Academy. Could the Freshmen Challenge Tournament possibly be a festival to find a partner for it?”
Looking in the direction of Yufeng Academy, Veronia couldn’t help but comment. Without knowing of the Jingming Divine Monkey’s existence, it could be seen as an event to showcase strength. However, with the Divine Monkey present, it’s hard to say if there’s a special purpose.
Thinking for a moment, Feng Yuan tilted his head toward the approaching bus and said,
“It shouldn’t be. Otherwise, they wouldn’t allow freshmen from all academies to participate. After all, the Jingming Divine Monkey can’t possibly limit its choice only to Yufeng Academy students. It would be a joke if it got lured away by someone from another school.”
No matter what, the Jingming Divine Monkey is a Divine Beast. It wouldn’t restrict itself because of their demands. Compared to a Divine Beast Contract, there are far more records of Martial Dao Divine Beasts helping humans enhance their physical strength and even allowing human partners to gain combat abilities comparable to Spirit Beasts. So, Feng Yuan didn’t believe the Divine Monkey would just stay at Yufeng Academy.
If there were an agreement, it would be like the agreement between Granny Mianlan and Drudgeon. They might recommend candidates, but it’s up to the Divine Beast to decide if they are satisfactory or not.
Thus, Feng Yuan didn’t think the challenge tournament had anything to do with the Jingming Divine Monkey’s partner. Otherwise, people would have known long ago that Yufeng City harbors a Divine Beast.
Just then, the bus arrived, and everyone quickly got on. However, not even Veronia and the others noticed that, during their idle chatter at the stop, a few people had been eavesdropping. Seeing Feng Yuan’s group board the bus, they exchanged glances and squeezed onto the bus with the crowd.
“Heading to the old part of town? Would there be an upscale hotel there?”
Watching the surroundings gradually become more aged, Veronia curiously asked. Rolling his eyes, Feng Yuan retorted irritably,
“I don’t have to stay in a luxury hotel. Besides, where would you find such hotels in Yufeng City? It’s not a tourist destination, and its development isn’t that great. However, if we manage to draw the monkey out, it might turn Yufeng City into a tourist spot~”
Saying this, Feng Yuan revealed a sly smile. Agunas glanced at Feng Yuan, flicking his tail dismissively. In truth, bringing the Jingming Divine Monkey out would be no trivial matter. The influx of people drawn by the Divine Beast alone would cause headaches for the Yufeng City Special Duty Team, not to mention the potential special connection the Divine Monkey might have with Yufeng Academy. Otherwise, it wouldn’t guard Yufeng Academy.
It’s important to note that even Shenhua, Shangjing, or the Great Xia Academy, do not have Divine Beasts stationed. Of course, Martial Dao Divine Beasts might, but those academies wouldn’t need to hide it. As one of Great Xia’s key deterrents, they couldn’t deliberately conceal a Divine Beast’s presence.
Unless, it was the Divine Beast’s own request. However, Feng Yuan was certain there were no hidden Divine Beasts in Shenhua Academy since he’d been to Shenhua City several times with Veronia and the others. If there were any, Veronia and Agunas would have noticed.
In the cave at the back of Yufeng Academy, the Jingming Divine Monkey suddenly sensed an aura of malice, slowly opening its eyes to look in the direction from which the malice came. It furrowed its brow, considering whether to perform a divination. However, instinct told it that even with divination, it wouldn’t find the source of the malice.
Slowly closing its eyes, the Jingming Divine Monkey no longer thought about the matter. If something unexpected were to happen, it’s not without its means to counter it.
Unaware that his words had made the Jingming Divine Monkey aware, Feng Yuan continued discussing how to lure out the Divine Monkey. Fortunately, he knew the Divine Monkey was deliberately hiding its presence, so he had Agunas set a barrier to prevent others from hearing.
Those who followed onto the bus suddenly found themselves unable to eavesdrop on the group’s conversation, suspecting that Feng Yuan and his companions had caught on. However, at this point, they dared not confront them directly, lest they get into trouble.
“Strange, where is the hotel you booked, exactly?”
“A budget hotel near Yufeng Academy. It’s very close to the academy, and since we aren’t doing any sightseeing, proximity to the academy is all that matters.”
Glancing at the reservation details, Feng Yuan casually replied. Though the hotel might not be great, its nearness to Yufeng Academy was enough. He didn’t plan to explore Yufeng City; it was close enough to Maomu City that he could visit any other time.
“You actually have times when you’re not picky?”
Examining Feng Yuan with surprise, as if meeting him for the first time, Veronia rolled her eyes. Feng Yuan retorted, exasperated,
“What do you mean, ‘times when I’m not picky?’ We’re not here for vacation; convenience comes first. Besides, if it were allowed, I’d want to stay directly in Yufeng Academy.”
“You’re thinking up something strange again.”
Flicking his tail, Agunas glanced at Feng Yuan, exasperated. Was this guy thinking of making a move on the Jingming Divine Monkey?
As Feng Yuan casually looked out the window at the rapidly passing scenery, he said, seemingly offhandedly,
“Of course, it’s to play with the Jingming Divine Monkey. I haven’t met a Martial Dao Divine Beast, and I don’t know what their temperament is like~”
Saying this, he placed a hand on Xiao Ji’s head and continued,
“Of course, I’m not asking you to battle it. You wouldn’t win.”
Glaring at Feng Yuan with dissatisfaction, Xiao Ji grumbled defiantly. It firmly believed its strength should astonish the Jingming Divine Monkey. Agunas flicked his tail, saying,
“Indeed, if it were to aim for victory and use moves like the Crimson Judgement, it might cause big trouble.”
“It’s not like we can’t stop it. Even if it uses such unfair moves, it might not outmatch the Jingming Divine Monkey.”
Although Veronia wasn’t entirely sure of the Divine Monkey’s strength, she didn’t think a Divine Beast on par with herself would be weak.
“Of course, and even if it were the Crimson Judgement, it wouldn’t be unsolvable. I think the Jingming Divine Monkey should have the power to forcibly mend spatial rifts.”
Shaking his head, Feng Yuan said. As a Martial Dao Divine Beast, the Jingming Divine Monkey would naturally have incredible abilities. Given it didn’t have specific authority constraints, it could achieve much more than beasts limited by authority.
During their conversation, the bus reached the station, and Feng Yuan quickly called the group to disembark. This time, Agunas noticed those trailing them and narrowed his brow before slowly closing his eyes.
Although Feng Yuan didn’t notice those people, he was puzzled by Agunas’s odd behavior, scratching his head in confusion.
“What exactly do you want?”
Suddenly appearing behind them, Agunas spoke coldly. Upon noticing the trackers, Agunas chose not to act immediately but instead opened a Space Gate, arriving here with its true form. After ensuring no one else was behind them, Agunas spoke up.
“Don’t even think about running!”
Tossing a book in hand, golden thorns blocked all escape routes for the group. Coldly eyeing them, Agunas said icily,
“What are you planning, and why are you tailing us?”
“They…”
Rubbing her chin, Veronia looked at the group in confusion, feeling something was off about them, as if…
“Let’s call the Special Duty Team to handle this, save ourselves the trouble.”
Glancing at the group, Feng Yuan said nonchalantly. They seemed about the same age as him, possibly freshmen from somewhere else who saw how well they’d trained their beasts and thought of taking them.
However, when the Special Duty Team arrived, it turned out to be a misunderstanding. In reality, they’d been tailing Feng Yuan because they were worried he might do something to the Jingming Divine Monkey, so Yufeng Academy had sent a few students to scout the situation.
Scratching his head, Feng Yuan sheepishly looked at everyone and said,
“How did I become the bad guy here…”
