Chapter 1591: Chapter 1592: Underground Trap
Feng Yuan walked to the front and examined the crystal ground. After a moment, he summoned a hammer and smashed it forcefully into the ground. Crystal shards flew everywhere, revealing a massive black cave beneath him. With his dark wings flapping, Feng Yuan floated in the air as a gentle breeze wafted up from the cave entrance below. Squinting his eyes, he waved his hand, forming nine small shields into a longbow.
He unleashed the usual Arrow Rain, with black arrows continuously shooting into the cave entrance below. After a while, seeing no anomalies, Feng Yuan motioned to Xiao Ji to follow him and turned to Qi Chen and the others, saying,
“You all wait here for now, I’ll go down and check things out.”
With that, Feng Yuan, accompanied by Xiao Ji, flew down into the dark cave. The ghostly blue flames illuminated the surroundings, causing the crystal walls to reflect and refract an unusual light. Before long, Feng Yuan reached a street at the bottom and surveyed the area. He discovered that the lower space was not the expected inverted mirror image.
This layer of streets seemed indistinguishable from the ones above, except for having a ceiling. However, upon closer inspection, Feng Yuan noticed an anomaly. Or rather, the far-off streets appeared to have sloping inclines downward. Although he wanted to investigate further, Feng Yuan decided to return first.
On the way back to the cave entrance, Feng Yuan encountered a row of fleshly tentacles stretching out. Without hesitation, he destroyed them and returned to the surface to rally the group for descent. As for the battlefield above, Agunas wanted to stay behind to deal with any potential changes. After some persuasion, seeing Agunas was determined not to go down with them, Feng Yuan could only tell it to be more careful.
The group gradually entered the cave, standing on the crystal street. The reflected light made this underground street resemble a dreamlike fairyland. Dou Yanlan, asking Ah Mu to be on alert, cautiously surveyed the surroundings and said,
“This place, without any safety measures?”
“What do you mean?”
“Crystal constructs.”
Glancing at Feng Yuan, Dou Yanlan said. The officials in their team reacted similarly, forming a protective circle around everyone. Veronia twirled the parasol in her hand and commented,
“It’s hard to say. Maybe it’s not crystal constructs but tentacles from above?”
Upon hearing Veronia’s words, everyone looked upwards. Though there was light overhead, it was hard to tell if any fleshly tentacles were passing by due to the distance. Feng Yuan sighed while holding the dark Ancient Book, letting it rustle as he fanned the pages with its cover.
Old pages floated out from the dark Ancient Book, flying skyward and transforming into Spirit Beasts ignited with black flames, roaming above everyone.
“Is this sufficient? If anything suspicious approaches, it should be burned away. Even if it isn’t, there will be a warning.”
Seeing this, Feng Yuan smirked at Veronia, asking in a satisfied tone. Veronia didn’t argue, as the group prepared to head toward the giant egg structure. Feng Yuan raised no objections.
That place is at the heart of the area, although Feng Yuan wasn’t sure what awaited them there. He was certain it would likely be another unavoidable fierce battle.
As they cautiously advanced, the anticipated crystal constructs never appeared. The crystal buildings quietly shimmered, like age-old relics long at rest. However, everyone was acutely aware that this was impossible.
On the silent street, only their footsteps echoed, the sound twisting through the underground space, easily mistaken for some anomalous movement.
As they spotted the immense castle in the distance, relief eluded them. With their knowledge of the mastermind, this thing couldn’t be quietly awaiting their arrival; the tranquil journey suggested a formidable presence lying in wait ahead.
Tightly gripping his sickle, Feng Yuan vigilantly surveyed the surroundings when Tan Xueluo exclaimed in surprise,
“Look! What is that?!”
“A cluster of gravestones? No, it’s a cemetery? An oddly normal yet ancient cemetery amid crystal buildings?”
Following Tan Xueluo’s direction, the group saw a cemetery ahead of the castle. No, the cemetery seemed to encircle the castle like a moat, and upon seeing this, a sense of foreboding hit them. Though it resembled ancient cemeteries outside, this was the crystal world!
“You all protect one another as we advance!”
Clutching the sickle, Feng Yuan urged Veronia and the others toward the cemetery. As they approached, mutterings echoed incessantly, the earth within the cemetery trembled as though an ominous entity were awakening.
“This is… Tsk! The World of Mirrors?!”
Observing the arms emerging from the soil, Feng Yuan scoffed. Soon, resurrectors resembling the group awoke from their slumber. Before they could act, Feng Yuan and Xiao Ji charged toward a resurrector resembling him, their ultimate moves savagely tearing it apart midair.
The fragmented resurrector reformed as black droplets fell, coalescing back to its original form. Witnessing this, everyone was stunned as black flames burned toward the resurrector, seemingly without effect, allowing the flames to blaze on its body.
The flames danced over the resurrector, forming a black flame armor. The White Wolf Deity let out an angry roar, summoning the Power of Time upon them, but the resurrectors remained unchanged. Veronia, twirling her parasol, pointed with a finger, trapping a humanoid resurrector with the Crystal Rose, then turned to Feng Yuan and asked,
“If we merely restrain them and force our way through, would it pose problems?”
“Of course, it would. You don’t want to face enemies on two fronts, right? Still, you all move ahead, and I’ll handle the rest.”
Saying this, Feng Yuan paused, and Veronia, after staring at him for a while, shook her head.
“That will pressure you greatly, right? Let’s explore other solutions to deal with them.”
Aware of what Veronia implied, Feng Yuan’s Ancient Book wielded power beyond this world’s limits, thus demanding a price. Using power exceeding this world’s constraints required compensation: temporary restrictions on some powers or other costs, and in Feng Yuan’s case, likely further limitations on parts of his power.
While this was not crucial for Feng Yuan, Veronia did not wish for it. Seeing other Divine Beasts observing and shaking their heads, Feng Yuan chuckled slightly and said,
“Alright, fine, you leave me no choice; let’s do it this way.”
“If nothing else works, you cannot stop me from taking action.”
Observing the approaching resurrectors, Feng Yuan stated, waving his sickle and charging forth. Those entities were repeatedly shredded and restored, resistant to all non-physical damage and seemingly invincible within the world’s power domain.
“Those things push the world’s limits, how malicious!”
Muttering under his breath, Feng Yuan charged ahead, casting aside the sickle. However, upon contact with the resurrector, a strange energy attempted to invade his body. Unfortunately for that energy, Feng Yuan, of a higher plane, remained impervious.
Furious, Feng Yuan knocked the resurrector to the ground. To his surprise, upon suffering severe damage, the resurrector exploded instantly, disappearing before him. Astonished, Feng Yuan paused, yet when attempting the same on other resurrectors, no such phenomenon occurred again.
“What is going on here? Only adversaries matching oneself? This won’t work.”
Glancing at Qi Chen and others, Feng Yuan shook his head without alerting them immediately; due to the resurrectors’ peculiar nature, he alone dared approach and even touch them.
