Chapter 1584: Chapter 1585: Trap
“That thing’s power is indeed formidable.”
Holding Xiao Ji, Feng Yuan sighed. Although they had anticipated an explosion, they didn’t expect to be injured by the aftermath despite keeping their distance. Thinking of something, Feng Yuan said,
“Should we go over and have a look at the situation?”
“What do you intend to do?”
Qi Chen looked at Feng Yuan with suspicion, unsure of his intentions. Huo Feng furrowed his brows and said,
“Logically speaking, an explosion of this scale would cause massive destruction. If lucky, the entire tower might collapse; however…”
“In such unpredictable places, there’s no telling what might happen. While a collapse would be good, I doubt it’s possible.”
Liao Yu glanced at Feng Yuan and remarked, those crystal structures seem to appear endlessly. Thankfully, both Feng Yuan and the White Wolf Deity can sustain intense combat for long periods; otherwise, everyone wouldn’t know where to escape. Upon returning to the previously discovered Energy Hub, they saw only a partially collapsed room and equipment buried under crystal shards. Feng Yuan sighed,
“I had hoped to demolish the tower in the process, but it’s actually quite sturdy…”
“Can we find other Energy Hubs along the energy conduit?”
Huo Feng noticed the broken pipelines on the ground and asked. Although the ground beneath everyone’s feet appeared semi-transparent crystal, the hidden pipelines became visible only because of the explosion. Otherwise, the seemingly transparent ground concealed solid conduits.
“This, isn’t much of a problem, but such concealment tactics, gosh, even I almost got fooled.”
Upon realizing, Feng Yuan reacted; he hadn’t seen any energy transmission lines before, which doesn’t fit reality. After all, this isn’t a game, and energy can’t travel long distances without a trace. Wireless energy transmission isn’t impossible, but its waves can be sensed from afar.
“Let me see where this thing leads.”
Upon noticing the issue, Feng Yuan immediately swept the ground with his Divine Sense, discovering the hidden conduits beneath the pseudo-transparency. The conduits extended far beyond the area they had just exposed, filling the corridors with various lines. Furrowing his brows, Feng Yuan said,
“The stuff below is pretty complex, but wait… this thing seems…”
Thinking of something, Feng Yuan gave a sinister smile as black flames engulfed the Dark Scythe in his hand. The sickle slashed the ground, breaking crystals and scattering them everywhere, triggering a chain explosion. Amidst the dust, the group shouted toward Feng Yuan.
Walking out from the crystal dust, Feng Yuan waved the sickle in his hand and said,
“Now, more than half of the lines have lost power. Let’s go find a higher-level node.”
As Feng Yuan led the way, Dou Yanlan contemplated and said,
“Could this be a deliberate trap to lure us? Is it really that simple?”
“There’s no choice. The lines below connect over ten places. Do you think we have that much time and energy?”
Turning to Dou Yanlan, Feng Yuan said helplessly. Though he and the White Wolf Deity could hold on for quite some time, the situation with Agunas and the others wasn’t as optimistic. While uncertain what a defeat on the frontlines might entail, he didn’t want to risk finding out.
Following the conduit, the group continuously moved toward the tower’s center. After a while, Feng Yuan stepped back to let the White Wolf Deity take the lead, then glanced behind him and said,
“Something’s wrong; this thing seems to be at the tower’s center.”
“If it explodes there, it might damage the tower’s structure. However, we might lack the chance to escape.”
Huo Feng said while fighting off the pursuing crystal constructs, and Liao Yu sighed and said,
“Is there any need to do something so dangerous?”
Just then, the sound of explosions echoed, and the group paused. Dou Yanlan thought of something and said,
“Other teams have entered this tower. If they destroy it…”
“I think you all might be overthinking it. He might not let your plans come true. Let’s go; dismantling the hub is always a good idea regardless.”
Sighing, Feng Yuan continued to charge ahead to clear the path. Along the way, explosions occasionally rang out. The pressure on the frontlines gradually reduced as it seemed the weapons in the side tower were failing. Agunas looked toward the side tower and said,
“Why do I have an uneasy feeling?”
“Perhaps it’s a trap?”
Although unaware of where the other teams were, Veronia inexplicably had a feeling of impending danger for them.
In the city, various parties analyzed information based on each team’s reports. Since Veronia and Agunas were alone on the frontlines, they found themselves unable to see frontline information because there were no images of Agunas appearing in any footage.
However, each city’s temporary command centers quickly analyzed a crucial issue: the hub Feng Yuan sought was likely the side tower’s Energy Hub. Other battlefields had similar points, although they hadn’t been discovered yet.
Based on analyses and outlines, everyone’s hypothesis was either sacrificing themselves to destroy the corresponding facilities or waiting for the frontline’s defeat because Feng Yuan’s group had already reached the Energy Hub’s location.
Within the space much larger than all prior energy hubs, a massive seven-colored crystal pillar buzzed, and energy mist continuously floated from the mechanical base below. Seeing this scene, Feng Yuan’s brows furrowed, and Huo Feng seemed startled as he said,
“This thing resembles a large Energy Hub, even…”
Concerning the City Defense System, he ultimately withheld further words. However, even without knowing the precise situation, seeing such a multi-story high space, it was clear that destroying this hub might cause unpredictable consequences.
“Will this place, like before, only experience minor damage?”
Dou Yanlan cautiously speculated, and Feng Yuan shook his head and said,
“This place hasn’t been energy shielded, which means even if I don’t trace the conduits, I can find it here. This place… It might be forcing us to make a choice.”
“What choice?”
Qi Chen probed, puzzled. Liao Yu immediately grasped Feng Yuan’s meaning and, with a bitter smile, said,
“Leave it alone, or let this thing be blown sky-high.”
“Can’t we disrupt the conduits? Just disconnect its connection with those weapons…”
Tan Xueluo thought of something and asked, shaking his head, Feng Yuan said,
“No, this isn’t a transfer hub. The thing itself is a massive energy conversion generator. If it can’t transmit energy outward and can’t be stopped, then the continuously generated energy will act like a bomb and blow this place up.”
“Moreover, I don’t believe he will let us resolve it so easily. Hey, White Wolf Deity, take the others away first. But wait, we need someone to negotiate.”
Feng Yuan said, glancing at Liao Yu. Among them, only he and Huo Feng were suitable for the task. Though the group didn’t quite understand why the White Wolf Deity couldn’t speak human language, knowing not all Spirit Beasts can communicate directly with humans, they didn’t question it further.
“He’s more adept at negotiations.”
Huo Feng glanced at Liao Yu and said. Meanwhile, crystal constructs continued attacking their position, increasing the defensive pressure as the White Wolf Deity took Huo Feng away.
“You all, get back.”
Watching the crystal constructs charging continuously, Feng Yuan squinting shouted and borrowed Xiao Ji’s power. Nine shields blocked most of the gate, leaving only a narrow gap requiring just a few people to defend. Seeing Feng Yuan looking somewhat tired, Qi Chen and the others immediately let him retreat and rest.
“Alright, going over there is pointless; your Ultimate Move isn’t destructive enough against these things.”
Petting Xiao Ji’s back, Feng Yuan stopped Xiao Ji who wanted to help. Although Qi Chen and the others couldn’t handle too many crystal constructs simultaneously, with the entrance mostly blocked by him, the remainder wasn’t too difficult to deal with as they just needed to hold the entrance.
“What are you planning?”
Standing beside Feng Yuan, Huo Feng asked in confusion, naturally sensing Feng Yuan was preparing something rather than merely being tired.
“Of course, to blow up this tower. It might be risky, but it’s not impossible.”
“Aren’t you worried about their safety?”
“I am worried, but if the issue isn’t resolved soon, it will only become more troublesome.”
Shaking his head, Feng Yuan said helplessly.
